Like it or not the stats show it
We are digging ourselves a hole that we will not be able to get out of.
And With That Loss Goes The Season
I can't even get mad anymore.
Not as Good as the Record Shows
It's the small things that win games and we aren't doing them
Response to ''Giving it Away'' blog
markinjapan's words were obviously venting in nature. Lord knows I've been known to do that, but their are some valid points to his ''pithy posting''.
Bad Decision
Ramirez should never have gone out for the 8th. I'd like to see what Delcarmen would have done if he started that inning. Obviously we won't know, but it's a shame to lose a game like that when we've been playing such good baseball. Tito almost blew it last night as well. Wagner needs to be Pappelbon's set up man not Okijima. I hope he realizes that now.
And I hope this isn't the start of a slump for Pedroia. It couldn't come at a worse time.
Show of Hands
Who thinks we're going to the post season?
We Are Definitely In Trouble
This team is playng with no heart and no fire
Implosion?
I'm not getting a good feeling about this team
Tito Does It Again
He left Wake in too long.....AGAIN!!!!!
WTF?
How can we expect to do anything in the post season or even get there for that fact if we are going to do what we did tonight?
Pitching?
It really is amazing that we have a starting rotation full of guys in their early, mid, and late twenties (minus Wakefield, of course) and getting them to finish the 6th inning is like pulling teeth. This is getting ridiculous. And Tito did it again; I would think that he knows his pitchers well enough to know when they've had enough. He kept Lester in too long and he kept Wake in too long in Anaheim. And I also think that John Farrell should start being held up to more scrutiny as well. This really is how teams begin to implode. Nobody has a good enough offense to make up for bad pitching and right now that is exactly the direction this team is going in.
REALITY CHECK
There were many of you who had a problem with my posting which was critical to Jed Lowrie. I want to expand on that if I may. We are no longer the ''lovable losers'' who always fell short and got their hearts broken. It was what we seemed to thrive on. Let the Cubs have that stigma. We won our series and did it in grand fashion. But what that did was raise the bar from that point on. We are EXPECTED to win a champioship every year (or at least I know I expect it). We've been able to do this with an outstanding farm system and getting quality free agents (obviously). I know we've had young players who started slow; Pedroia was an abomination at the start of 2007 and look what he's turned into. In my opinion, Lowrie is not in the same league as Dustin (but I could be wrong). The stage our guys are playing on is just as big as the Yankees. That's the price you pay for winning winning two World Series in six years and going to the post season in all but one of those years. And if someone is not ''cutting the mustard'' and has had ample opportunity to do so then I'm going to call it like I see it. This is the reason I'm not impressed when I hear someone tell me about Lowrie's numbers in the minors (despite his wrist injury). When you come up to play in the show, and you're on the stage that this team is now on, then you are expected to perform. That is what you are getting paid to do. And Lowrie isn't the only one. I can go all through the roster and the only players that I can see without any major flawes right now are Youkilis and Bay. Wakefield and most of the pen have also been doing amazing things in the pitching department. I love this team as much as anyone. The only thing that stops me from being Jimmy Fallon is that I don't live in Boston and I don't have season tickets. I'm in the Marine Corps and live in Southern California and because of the MLB package that I have through my cable company I have been able to see EVERY game so far this year. This team truly is my passion and it always has been. I paid almost $900.00 for two tickets to game one of last year's ALDS in Anaheim. Eight rows behind the Sox dugout and it was the best money I ever spent. Sorry for getting nostalgic. The fact is that I'm going to give my honest opininion based on what I see on the field. I hope Ortiz really came out of his slump tonight. I'm seeing that one of our biggest problems is not being able to put away batters with two strikes. And I also think John Farrell should be looked at when it comes to how disappointing the starting pitching is. Thanks for taking the time to read this.....GO SOX, BABY!!!!
LUGO AND OTHER THINGS
Simply said, Jugo needs to go. He lost it for us in Cleveland and he lost it for us today. I was one of the few who thought we never should have gotten rid of Alex Cora. Jed Lowerie is not the answer. He will be the classic 1970s style shortstp; good glove, but bats .220. Nick Green wouldn't be so bad if he would stop trying to take home run cuts when he's at the plate. He does well when he is simply trying to make good contact with the ball.
Ortiz is really turning into a joke. The absence of either Manny or steroids might be the answer here.
I actually liked what I saw from Penny today. He had his fastball in the mid 90s. That was awesome. And he didn't give up the long ball.
Sick and Tired
How about putting some batters away with two strike counts? Why not play like men against the Rays? I'm really getting tired of this nonsense. They should really consider sending Ortiz back to Pawtucket for awhile. No homers yet? Sorry, but that is what he is getting paid to do. He is as bad, if not worse, than Varitek was last year. I think the wrist injury had a permanent effect on him and he's simply getting old. Van Evry (spelling?) should be starting in RF and Drew should be the DH. Ellsbury needs to be on base more if he's going to call himself a lead off man. They should consider flip flopping him and Pedroia in the order. He's batting below .220 against lefties.
Our starting pitching is an abomination. Thank God for our pen. And there are even a couple of relievers that make me hold my breath when they take the mound (Saito and Lopez). Beckett is done as far as a dominant pitcher. What did he do in Florida after the 2003 World Series and what has he done in Boston since 2007? Absolutely nothing. I think the injuries from last year, although healed, have had a permanent effect on him as well. His power is done and he has no movement. Penny is pitching worth his name and it's sad when your best pitcher is a 42 year old knuckleballer. Dice-K came to the majors as an old man. He was throwing continually in Japan sice the age of 18. He never has panned out for us.
Could you imagine where we'd be in the standings right now if it wasn't for that 9 game home stand against bad teams? Remember, we lost two out of three to the Rays to start the season and look at what we're doing against them in Tampa. This could very well turn into a long season. Our pitchers (starters and relievers) need to stop giving up two strike hits and full count walks. Ellsbury needs to get on base and Ortiz needs to start hitting. Our bull pen and defense is what is keeping us in there right now, but when your starters aren't getting past the fifth inning your bull pen is going to start getting taxed.
I hope that I can chat with like minded Sox fans who follow the team like I do.
