Burnt Orange Nation focus on future

As bad as today was I think we are getting better. I think we end up maybe 8-4 this year (osu, mizzou, baylor, and maybe atm kick our ass). No logical reason to think we can hang with those offenses - seriously. So, maybe we are 2 to 3 games better than last year -which isj ust the results of turnovers in the ucla and isu games - so what have we gained really? I think we are set up better with a real play-caller once they "get" the offense - so watch out next year and enjoy whatever we get this year - 3 to 4 more wins - maybe. Our pass rush is not good. :(

Burnt Orange Nation Why, why, why...

does this team keep making such ridiculous plays? GG plaease quit trying to force the ball - there is room to run it - witness your first drive.

Also, did anyone notice the kickoff from k-state that was headed out of bounds that dj monroe fumbled out of bounds? Again, just boneheadedness.

We will be sitting home this bowl season in an utter disgraceful season of 5-7.  I hope there are some real changes to some of the coaches - it appears they are not preparing the team very well.

Burnt Orange Nation Red zone TD's (15-36) = 42%

Pretty amazing numbers on the season. We consistenly trade field goals for touchdowns and this is a killer. In the four losses, just to recap the field goals in the red zone area (so any FG from 35 yards or less you can say was snapped probably from the 20 or inside - so is a red zone opportunity):

ou - 22, 21 - Lost 8 possible points

ucla - 31,34 - Lost 8 possible points

isu - 23, 37 (miss), 21 - Lost 8 possible points

baylor - 26,31,21 - Lost 12 possible points

Not sure if it is chemistry, play calling, execution, a combination of all three - but certainly not what they need to do to win, and clearly below our recent year's performance standards.

Also, interesting to note our opponents have fumled the ball 23 times and we have recovered 6! Need to get those loose balls. - again point opportunities left on the field - in the hidden yards category.

Keep up the fight.

Burnt Orange Nation This is beyond embarassing

I am glad I did not even watch all of this abortion of a game. I did see B. Matthews drop a sure touchdown pass in Q1, I did see J. Kirk drop a great pass in Q1 that if he catches he can go the distance.

Curtis Brown - who fucking tries to field a punt running backawards at the 2 - just stop it! Get off the field. This team is just not right - and (as i said after ucla) will only get to 5-7. Mack should be fired and have it turned over to Chris Petersen from Boise. Wil Muschamp has done nothing with this D and is getting face raped this season. They tried and and played well, but fell apart after the 19-10 lead.

Our red szone offense is just horrific and inside the 15 they can not funciton at all - it is a fucking joke - I mean it is like they try and make mistakes.

I want to care, and I want to try and invest my energy, but I just am almost at the end of my rope and can not do it. I need ot know this is going somewhere and it is not.

I assure you we will lose recruits and this team is so far below our standard it is a complete emabarrassment - now we know what it is like to be an aggy or tech fan - pure shit.

Burnt Orange Nation What will honestly change about this team over the next 5 games?

Seriously, we are a very average (at best) really poor (at worst) team. 4-3 let that sink in. We score about 24 points a game and give up about 20 per game. There is nothing to suggest that is going to change for the better (especially on the offensive side of the ball).

So, with teams like Baylor (can't believe I am saying that), ksu, ok state, and atm who can score points with an actual offensive threat scheme, why does anyone think that we will not implode down this final stretch? I am giving us credit against fau since that just couldn't happen (right)? So from BCS NC Game to what - the insight bowl?

Our QB has 6 td's in 7 games - doesn't moore at Boise throw like 5 or 6 a game? As soon as he switched to #7 I knew we were fucked - it is a bad number at UT historically. Anyway, back to the comments, the appalingness of it all is that coaches actually thought this could be a great running team and the best defense (ever) under Brown.

UCLA was Mackovic's "waterloo" moment, and it needs to be for Brown. Now, maybe not to fire him, but to certainly clean house materially. If not, NOTHING, I mean NOTHING, will change in the foreseeable future. I worry now about the recruits (or maybe they are happy and think they can come in and start - probably).

Someone needs to get intense over there, someone light a fire, and someone's start to give a damn - this is just embarrasing. Stop talking about it and start actually doing somehting about it Mack.

Burnt Orange Nation what will you do when we are 5-7

Seriously,

Just got home from the Texas - ou game and from what I witnessed of the team, the staff, the fans, I have never been more f'ing disusted in my life. I am 41 and have seen a lot of bad UT teams, but his was pathetic. Never has the coaching and the effort been so abyassmal. We are clearly going to get bent over by Nebraska, K-State, Ok State and atm. So Baylor willl be a push, I project we beat I-state and florida atm to go 5-7. I am now convinced the whole regime needs to go (Brown, his douche buddy Greg Davis and the rest). Please tell me where I am wrong. the past is the past and I fear we will now loss recruits to scools who can no actually coach - tell me what I am missing.

Seriosuly, ask yourself this question - if Chris Petersen from Boise Sate had this team would he run the fucking bubble screen or throw to Greg Smith on 3rd and 18 - hell no. He actually schemes.

It was embarrasing and we all should be ashamed.

This team sucks and all of the coaches need to stand up and be accountable - even Muschamp (those 3 major penalties on 3rd downs fucking killed us).

Someone step up and this team needs to quit being a bunch of vaginas and play the game of football. They do not deserve to wear the TEXAS on their chest.

My $2K per year donation is over.

Burnt Orange Nation Will this "L" light a fire???

What do you honestly expect to happen over the next 3 weeks (ou, bye, and nebraska) and then the rest of the season? I had hoped to come out of the first 6 games either 5-1 or 4-2, and then sweep the last 6 games (since 5 are at home) to be 10-2.

Now, I see an offense that can not run, catch, block, or throw with any rithym. Seriously, yesterday we start off crisp and take it 3 plays - 3 first downs. Then, we f'ing run our little p*ssy run plays in to the back of the line for 2 and 3 yards. F' me - get someone who run forward and find a lane. O' line - you guys are a joke, and if anyone thinks next year that the O-line will be better - please tell me who that will consist of?

Defensively, I am not sure why everyone is sold on this team either - they are not built to stop anyone who can run the ball (ou, nebraska, ok state, kstate, atm). So, I think we are now a 7-5 team at best (but if that sets us for 2011 and 2012 - then ok).

Here is the kicker, I now fear that Muschamp is certainly gone to UGA, and we could be left in worse shape than this year (if you think recruits start to question their choice if the 'champ leaves).

Or conversely, this lights some real ass kicking and soul-searching that says - "wear that Texas jersey and helmet with pride" - this ain't atm or tech.

Burnt Orange Nation is today's game similar to k-state in 2007

Just curious if people think today's game is similar to the game we had with k-state in 2007?

1. a team that everyone feels we should beat

2. potential of rain in the weather forecast

3. game before ou

Could we be set up for a similar ridiculous result?

I hope we are taking this game seriously, because if we add in rain to our struggling offense then this could get very dicey.

Thoughts?

Burnt Orange Nation Biggest concern this week?

What is your biggest concern about the game this weekend? I have major concern that we come out flat against these guys and fal behind quickly (as happened in 2006 and 2008). Heck even last year at home we could not put it away until very late (with a much more seasoned team and the crowd with us). I just am not sure why there is not more level of angst - rookie QB, no run threat, limited recieving options, and tech will score 31ish on us (average of the 39 and 24 against muschamp the past 2 years). You know this is there season. Seriously, chykie b. is a target all night long and no earl Thomas to help out.

I hope we play much better than the first two games or we could lose by 21 easily.

Then again, maybe our D can shut down these m'fers and GG wakes up and Fozzy runs like the guy we all want.

Burnt Orange Nation running game / general observation opinions

I was at the game yesterday and wanted to ask the fandom these questions:

1. What level of concern does anyone have about the o-line after getting denied after a 1st and G from the 4? Seriously, that was not only weak running and blocking but just horrific play calling. 4th down should have been another straight ahead run (yes I know the first three were not great, but switch out Cody).  Any complete moron of the game knows not to try a run wide with that lardass (remember melton at ohio state in 05).

For the love of everything sacred if we can't gain 4 inches against rice than this o-line and backs are a weak group of players and we are in for a very long season.

2. The long pass at the end of the 1st half - d backs should still be running laps for that gaffe (and the dropped pick sixes (2)). Never say a replay - where was any help on that second receiver?

3. I guess we were holding all of our cards close to the vest and we will certainly pull out the magic offense next week, or vs tech, or ucla, or ou, or nebrasksa, or whenver that comment needs to fit. Thoughts?

I feel much less confident in the offense than I thought I would after yesterday. I can assure you any team with a pulse of defense will be able to keep us at or under 21-24 a game - someone please name a threat  that will actually scare another team's defense? Maybe Goodwin or Monroe - but can or will we actually get them the ball.

I also think our D will be very good, but our d-backs are way overrated. C. Brown is just not that good, i hope he improves, but ugh.

Burnt Orange Nation 2011 Big 12 (or whatever name) questions

I have a few questions after the conclusion of the Big 12 Media Days last week:

1. I think it is a fatc the nebraska is going to the Big 10 starting in 2011. Is colorado definitively leaving after this season too? (I know that is the basic speculation, but did not hear anything definitive from Beebe or any other leadership role that was a fact).

2. I guess if we know the above, then we soon kow if we are going to a true round-robin (i.e. play every conference member in 2011).

3. Again, once we kow the above, then we can start to figure out our non-conference scheduling - like getting better teams as Mack referenced last week (minnesote nontwithstanding).

Anyone have updates or factual links abot any of this.

Thanks. Hook 'em.

Burnt Orange Nation Any idea when conference will "reset" the 2011 schedule?

I was just curious if anyone has heard when the conference "heads" will get back together and determine the following:

1. It appears both nebraska and colorado will exit the conference after this upcoming season. So, when we offically know how they will address "correcting" the football schedules for 2011 and beyond?

(It would seem that in moving to this 9 game schedule it is pretty clear who has gaps and what permutations might be available to make this work. I am sure it also might take some bit of re-configuration (moving games maybe) to get it all working especially in the early years).

2. the name for this conference (or does it just stay as it is).

Thanks.

Burnt Orange Nation 2010 is mean beast

As I stated after the new mexico esries, 2010 is and will be a cruel beast to UT athletics. We have all been sucked in to the baseball team. If they keep up this load of non-sense - they will be swept out of their home stadium. This Big XII tourney ahd been a frickin' embarassment - to lose to these types in this fashion.

Some may say - oh they didn't care or weren't motivated. Hey, all i know from my expereinces is that you just turn it on and decide - hey we want to win today. That is a crock.

I will expect nothing from this team and will not be disappointd then - I guess like most folks at tech or aggy. (Sad but I hav eno confidence in what has reently transpired - the 20+ wins in a row is over).

Ugh...

Burnt Orange Nation Future Non-Conference Football games

Has anyone heard any sort of news / rumors around any future years' non-conference opponents? It appears we are set in 2011. However it looks like we have an opening in 2012, 3 openings in 2013, and 4 openings in 2014. We have the home and homes set with Cal and Minn in 2015 / 16 but nothing else.

Maybe we could schedule someone like Indiana or Illinois or even some acc schools (like wake forest, duke, etc.) who would surely do a home and home (and provide us a win vs. a BCS school).

Thoughts?

Burnt Orange Nation From #1 to 1 and done

Really? We were #1 - that is not this team and it never will be again. People need to wake and and realize this team is terrible. Honestly as I watched the game last night we have no guards who can do a damn thing. When Balbay has the ball he is no threat (other than to his own team). He will never score and cant pass. Maybe Brown can play - but he better play like the 2nd half the rest of the night. We sit at 5-4 in conferene and will be lucky to end at 8-8 (we will lose at Mizzou, at tech, at atm, and at baylor. That means we have to sweep at home. So we will be 22-8, and likely go 0-1 in our own tourney. So we will be 23-9 and get a #5/6 seed. We will promptly crap the bed and bow out in what will be the biggest nose-dive in history.

Folks 2010 is a cruel beast, so don't get cocky for any other sports. Tell me where I am wrong??

Burnt Orange Nation Horns Up for Colt and 2009 Team

Just returned to Big D from the game and have had a roller-coaster of emotion since last night. Sitting in the bama section was not really too bad - in fact they were sweating bullets after it was 24-21 and thought we had 'em. Much kudos was given to us from their fans (most) and they knew they caught huge breaks. So, as I thought about the game and what transpired - I felt sick (nauseuas really) for Colt and the team (naturally) as they are the ones who were on the cusp. But, the more I thought about it, the more proud I was of what i saw play out.

This season really started out in Lubbock in November 2008. If anything good came from that :01 loss - it was that we learned, we adapted, and we came together.

The team put that behind them and came out with 2009 National Championship Game or bust as a goal, and damnit they got back even with the football gods with that :01 against nebraska.

Time and time again they did not quit and believed they would win - and they did 17 times in a row.

Last night it was there, but a cruel twist of fate tried to say no. But they would not quit, they would not stop, they would not give up, and we all knew and believed it would be possible with 3 minutes left. Maybe the football gods evened us back out for the 2005 and 2006 Rose Bowl wins (as Gilbert got whacked).

So, as I held my horns up for this team i am disappointed for them in the work, effort, tears, and pain they put into this season, but I have never been prouder to be a Longhorn.

Hold your horns high and know this, we will be back, and Mr. Doucheback Saban be ready, because the Eyes are Upon You.

Burnt Orange Nation Big XII Cahmpionship ? (visitor team)

I think I remember from past Big 12 Championship games that the team that travels the farthest is designated the home team, so is that how it willbe done again this year? If so, then will we be wearing the white uni's this week? Also, is the roof going to be closed for the game? I know that we have been having some snow and rain up here in the Metroplex (and maybe again on Friday), plus Saturday night might be in the low 40's or high 30's (actual real football weather).  Just curious if anyone has heard or read about these topics.

Hook 'em.

Burnt Orange Nation Defense performance vs. non-conference

It is sort of interesting to look at how many points we gave up to our non-conference opponents in sequence:

20, 10, 7, 3 - almost a perfect mathematical improvement each week by reducing scoring by 50%. That is the power of the 'Champ and his adjustments (or the pure randomw coincedence). I chose to believe in the overall improvement of the team. Additionally, in reality the defense only gave up 3 to wyoming and 0 to utep.

So, really no point to be proven here, hust interesting.

Let's take down baylor!

Burnt Orange Nation Concerns about osu game?

Obviously we all know that (historically) we have gotten off to very poor starts against osu and have had to pull the games out in the second half. We all know the atmosphere will be crazy and it could certainly be a repeat of last year at tech. Everyone seems to think that our defense will squash their run game and keep them one dimensional. Well, we thought that last year and they gashed us all day long. This game worries me and i hope we can come out and at least hold serve early. We have to watch the miscues, and hope we can grind them down.

Thoughts?

Burnt Orange Nation Concern about mizzou?

What are people's realistic thoughts / concerns about mizzou? I have seen them score alot and move the ball with ease, and then I have seen them get shut down. I know they will "bring it" early against us in their house. The fans will be nuts and the team will want to exact revenge from last years game in Austin. I hope we can maintain focus on this game and not live in hte ou moment or worry about osu. We cant have a screw up- this is a big trap game in my book. Starting to get concerned.

Burnt Orange Nation more concerns for wyoming game

As I hear the weather will be worse for tomorrow I think that all of our expectations of a blowout need to be greatly reduced. I see a very similar scenario as ucf or utep - where we have to fight off our usual early game ridiculousness to maintain a lead. You know they are going to use all the trick plays they can to sucker up our overpursuit and nail us 2-3 times with deep plays (like lmu last week). I hope Muschamp has these guys focused or we could certainly be in for more than we expect. I really hope we are focused on this game and not t tech next week.

Concerns?

Burnt Orange Nation Any Wyoming concerns?

Any cocnerns about the upcoming game with the Cowboys (other than issues with DirecTv)? I was at the game with ucf in 2007 against a seemingly outmatched foe and we had to fight for our lives to escape with a win. There it was a new stadium opening, here it is athe biggest game in school history and 7,220 feet of altitude. Yes, on paper it should be easy, but I think we all know it will be a tough first half (based on what I have seen recently ucf - 07, utep - 08, etc.).

I guess the only good think about lmu scoring 20 on us is the 'champ should be up in the defenses grill all week  to play with a little more intensity. and get some sacks. We need the secondary to facus and to win the turnover battle - we cant let these guys hang around

Thoughts?

Burnt Orange Nation Here is the real BCS calculation explanation

BCS DECLARES GERMANY WINNER OF WORLD WAR II
US Ranked 4th

(AP) -- After determining the Big-12 championship game participants the BCS computers were put to work on other major contests and today the BCS declared Germany to be the winner of World War II.

"Germany put together an incredible number of victories beginning with the annexation of Austria and the Sudetenland and continuing on into conference play with defeats of Poland, France, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium and the Netherlands. Their only losses came against the US and Russia; however considering their entire body of work--including an incredibly tough Strength of Schedule--our computers deemed them worthy of the #1 ranking."

Questioned about the #4 ranking of the United States the BCS commissioner stated "The US only had two major victories--Japan and Germany. The computer models, unlike humans, aren't influenced by head-to-head contests--they consider each contest to be only a single, equally-weighted event."

German Chancellor Adolph Hiter said "Yes, we lost to the US; but we defeated #2 ranked France in only 6 weeks." Herr Hitler has been criticized for seeking dramatic victories to earn 'style points' to enhance Germany's rankings. Hitler protested "Our contest with Poland was in doubt until the final day and the conditions in Norway were incredibly challenging and demanded the application of additional forces."

The French ranking has also come under scrutiny. The BCS commented " France had a single loss against Germany and following a preseason #1 ranking they only fell to #2."

Japan was ranked #3 with victories including Manchuria, Borneo and the Philippines.

Burnt Orange Nation Status of players for ku game? ugh

As I continue to see upset written all over this weekends game (injuries, weather complaints, early / poor starts on road games, ku revenge factor, mangino buffet bad manners) does anyone have a player status update / insight  for:

1. Orakpo

2. Chy. Brown

3. Ulatoski

4. Lamarr Houston

Also with no TE and a true freshman center getting his first start we are looking at sack COlt running for life / turnovers. Why doesn't anyone else think this is a huge red flag for big trouble????

Burnt Orange Nation Kansas game setting up like tech

Does anyone else seem to think that we are in for major upset this weekend? Everyone is talking about the BCS, but we have to get by the next 2 games - and ku on the road scares me to death.

Now we have no proven center and possibly some defensive guys still out, and add to that the weather conditions, and my firm belief we will crap on ourselves to start the game (like tech and utep) - why should we think we are set up for a visctory this weekend?? I mean please help me think why we have a chance here for success.

Burnt Orange Nation Kansas Game concern?

Is it just me, but I getting a little concerned that know is somewhat worried about the upcoming Knasas game. I was at the game in 2004 when we favored by a ton and escaped with our lives. This ku team can score and would love to wreck our season. Our last visit into that state eneded our season dreadfully in 2006. I think this game will be very hard for us to win (the weather will be cold, senior day, the 2004 game, magino eating all of our food).  Can someone prove this otherwise?
