Garnet And Black Attack Spurrier's Lost His Touch

Someone isn't too thrilled with the ball coach. From the article:

His latest project, Stephen Garcia, was so bad in Thursday’s season-opening 7-3 win at offensively challenged N.C. State that it must have made The Visor long for those early days at Duke in the 1980s. Heck, here’s a few sheckles that say Spurrier would put former Blue Devil Dave Brown under center next weekend against Georgia if he could.

From The Rumble Seat Picks for this weekend's ACC games

They have Wake getting off to a solid start, but I am surprised there aren't any huge upsets here. Maryland can win at Cal. I guess you can say they see an upset in Raleigh tonight. Anyway, I probably agree on  all but two picks. I have different winners in the USC-State game and the Miami-FSU game, which apparently isn't sold out in Tallahassee.

Backing The Pack Skinner ACC's Best QB?

Wake Forest QB RIley Skinner is better than N.C. State QB Russell Wilson, at least that's what these guys say. I am not sure I can go that far. Skinner is good, we can all agree on that, but did he pass for 17 TDs and just one interception a year ago? Of course not.

There are a lot of other good QBs in the ACC, but nobody, not Christian Ponder, not Thad Lewis, not Chris Turner and not Tyrod Taylor are better than RW. And definitely T.J. Yates isn't.

This one is kind of short but it is pretty good. I am nto sure about the rpedicted final record, but I think there's enough respect here. This is from the article:

Beamer and his staff usually live up to expectations and often exceed them. That is why they make up the best staff in the ACC and one of the best in the nation. Virginia Tech football is a big boy, and Beamer and who he surrounds himself with are the reasons for the elevation of the program.

The Smoking Musket WVU football preview

This is kind of short and an easy read, but it is interesting with the predicted final record. Not sure I agree, because I have more confidence in Stewart than this guy obviously does.

Here is a paragraph from the article:

To judge Stewart would only be fair to consider the post-Pat White period of the Mountaineers’ program, and that begins later this week when Liberty comes to town to start the 2009 campaign.

Carolina March ACC Preview: UNC

Carolina preview, short and sweet. Not one of those indepth articles, so it is quick and easy to read. I like the predicted record and tend to agree, but a lot has to come together for that to happen.

I am not one of those people who think the wide receiver position is a real problem because they still have talented players. Carolina needs a running game more than a passing game. Quan will have a big year on defense. Marvin Austin will too.

Troy Nunes Is An Absolute Magician The Big East order in a perfect world?

If the powers that run the Big East could choose the order of finish in the conference for football, how would the eight schools fall out?

Would West Virginia be on top or what about Louisville, Rutgers, maybe even Syracuse? And why? This answers the question and WVU fans are probably going to like it, at least one would think so. UConn fans may take issue with the take here in this bit.

Carolina March UNC working through WR issues

With so many great wide receivers gone from Carolina, are the Tar Heels prepared to handle life without Nicks, Tate and Foster? And if so, who will be their go to guys at wideout? Names like Mason, Little, Jones, Boyd and Harrellson have been tossed around, but they say why not Zach Pianalto?

Here is a link to this bit about Carolina WR situation, which it needs to step up right away or fans will be disappointed.

From The Rumble Seat GT football preview

Pretty high expectations, but it makes sense. Says Tech will score but the huge Q is the defense. Yes, we know that, but at least we have a record prediction.

This is from the article:

Johnson has successfully run his unique offense for 21 years, and it’s unlikely ACC defenses will figure out how to shut it down on a routine defense, so the Yellow Jackets should score some points this fall. But will their defense keep opponents from the end zone enough to challenge for an ACC title?

Testudo Times Robert Novak loved Terps Hoops

I never knew he was a Terps fan. This is kind of neat because you don't think of political people really caring about sports much unless they try to capitalize on it.

Here is a paragraph from the article:

I’ll never forget walking up to Cole Field House at the University of Maryland to cover a Terrapins-Virginia game in 1997. I noticed a man well ahead of me wearing a big, dark suit walking with what appeared to be his wife and a daughter.

Backing The Pack Something nice from Andrew Jones

For a change. This is actually a week or two old but it is pretty good and favorable to TOB. And we all know how much AJ loved CTC.

Here are the first two sentences of the article, and it actually is positive:

Don’t shock the self-loathing N.C. State fan down the street, but there is optimism in Raleigh these days.

No, it’s not about challenging for another Bass fishing title – hold the laughter, please – it’s about football.

The 7th Floor Is Shannon's Ship Sinking?

Someone out there doesn't care too much for Mr. Shannon. I think there are valid reasons to question if he will win enough to keep his job, but to say he will not flat out and say he will get fired is a little premature.

Here is how the article starts:

The warning signs have been there since day one. Randy Shannon isn’t going to succeed as Miami’s football coach.
