Gang Green Nation QB or WR, who makes WHO?

Hello fellow GGN'ers , I must say after reading all of the pre draft Mocks that you all have put up in recent weeks that i am truly baffled that a large portion of our fans seem to think that a WR would make our QB a much better QB, I have to disagree with this belief...that is the reason i am making this post, to find out why you guys feel this way.

Now, lets take a case in point example of what a WR can do for a QB and vice versa, I will use Santonio Holmes and show some stats of his for the past few years BEFORE he came to the Jets and AFTER...

2008 was his LOWEST professional output prior to becoming a Jet, he had 821 yards on 55 receptions

2009 was his HIGHEST production season, he had 79 catches 1,248 yards

now he becomes a Jet in 2010, no longer having Big Ben lobbing him the ball

2010 52 catches 746 yards

2011 51 catches 654 yards

BOTH of those totals are LOWER than any previous season he has ever played in the NFL, do you think its because Holmes is now a "Bum' ? or maybe its because of the lack of ability we have at QB? I hate to say it but its definetly our QB..

That is what brings me to Mike Wallace of the Steelers, do you guys really think that Wallace is just a great WR that will change the way our Offense produces? Wallace was a 3rd round pick that has put up great numbers in Pittsburg, he took Santonio Holmes 'spot' , the same spot that MADE Holmes a better WR but the difference is the QB getting him the ball, personally I think Holmes is 20 times better a WR than Wallace but with Sanchez throwing the ball behind him he cant make the catches he could in Pitt...I noticed a few fanposts saying we should trade our 1st round pick for Mike Wallace ( lol, no joke ) and I have seen alot of people hopping on the WR wagon for the Jets to waste our pick on a WR in the 1st round to help Sanchez out, I say its bullshit because WR is definetly not our biggest need, do you guys think that NO other WRs can catch a ball? HELL YES they all can catch, they have played this game for years but they cant catch a dam ball that is 3 yards behind them or 10 feet over thier heads.

Back on Topic, the question posed was who do you think is responsible for most of an Offenses success, is it the QB or the WR? I vote QB, how do you vote ?

Poll
Does the QB make the WR better or WR make the QB better ?
Gotta be the WR, I want 4 Megatrons on my team and T*M T***W throwin it to em!!

Definetly the QB, gimme Marino and whoever the hell you want, he'll get it to em !!

Gang Green Nation What IF Manish Mehta is right?

I've been thinking alot about this awful news that came out today that several Jets players anonomously proclaimed thier disdain for QB Mark Sanchez and basically have the mindset that they CANT WIN with him at the helm and they have absolutely no confidence in him to be able to guide the Jets to a SuperBowl even though we are going under some serious new construction on Offense with the exit of Schitty and signing of Sparano.

If true, this would not be very good for our team chemistry/locker room aura or just the basic mentality of our team to have zero confidence that our Offense can consistently get the job done after 3 mediocre years of Sanchez. That brings me to our other QB we have on the roster, Greg Mcelroy, now maybe with the new shift and im sure a new scheme on Offense , Sparano will definetly hold an open competition for QB in the spring.

Taking a closer look at Mcelroy and I am seeing what might be a BETTER option than Sanchez, lets look at his stats for a second..

Started 34 games in college

436/658 5,691 yds 39 TD 10 INT 155.4 career QB Rate

Preseason Jets stats

36/59 335 yds 2 TD 0 INT

...All the talk about Mcelroy is that he is a very smart QB that makes good reads but doesnt possess a very big arm, but looking at Sanchez the past 3 years we havent seen him go deep very often either. I think the only way for Rex to win back this team and the locker room is to make changes, the coaching staff has been shaken up, now its time a few players get shaken up as well...If Mcelroy gets a fair shot to compete for a starting job in training camp only good can come out of it, and maybe even a new starter at QB for us next season...Sparano has no reason to play favorites to Sanchez and I highly doubt he will.

Gang Green Nation TIME TO WIELD THE AX !!!!!

I've had enough of this crap!!! Brian Shottenhiemer needs to GO!!! and I mean NOW!!! so sick and tired of watching my team REFUSE to gamble against other teams that have proven weaknesses...We just got shut down by the 32nd ranked Defense in the NFL!!!! in large part to Shotty calling for too many plays that are either short of the 1st down marker or a run on 3rd and 25, im sick of it !!!!

Eric Smith needs to be cut!!! no ifs ands or buts about it, this guy just STINKS!!!! hes not a Safety, hes not a CB, what the hell is he? I tell you what he is, hes a liabilty in coverage, he doesnt have the size or speed to matchup with anyone other than Danny Woodcock and to top it off he is a penalty waiting to happen, far too often i have seen the Jets make a stop on 3rd down only to see a yellow flag come out and its usually on Smith..time for Rex to invest this 1st rounder in a Safety that is disciplined and can run a 40 in less than 6 seconds.

TE Mulligan needs to stay on the bench!!! he whiffed on 3 or 4 sacks tonite, if the Jets are putting him in the game as a Blocker wouldnt they do better just to add a backup O Lineman as the 2nd TE and make him eligible? he isnt going out on any routes anyway,  i couldnt believe how bad Mulligan looked on the replays, just standing there like an Oger without anything to do beside count the blades of grass while a virtual unknown DE blows right by him..

Its time to keep the paycheck of whoever is in charge of getting Defensive plays to the guys on the field, i saw at least 5 blown coverages tonite, leaving wideouts open without anyone on them, not following Ocho on that one big catch he had and a few others where the Jets just looked baffled and out of place, this is the NFL and we dont have time to babysit the incompetent idiot that cant get a play to his guys in less than 5 seconds..

I'm done for now but I'm sure i will think of some more crap to add later.

Gang Green Nation Isnt it Funny

When the Jets lost 3 in a row all the talk was how poorly they were playing and the teams that beat us were playing so great...now we are on a 2 game Win streak and all the talk is about how the refs didnt call Revis for P.I. and the refs shouldnt have called Jammer for P.I. and yada yada yada...it just seems no matter what we do we cant get on the good side of anybody, i mean in 2 of those 3 losses ( Oakland and Baltimore) we were bent over and fisted without lube by the refs but nobody said anything about it, now we actually play good and hear nothing but grief :( ...

I just feel that the Jets dont get any respect, we are the Rodney Dangerfield of the NFL,  these clowns on ESPN and NFL.com do nothing but bash Sanchez every chance they get even though he has put up very solid numbers in every game this season ( except Baltimore ), we even have ex-Jets doing some bashing, like Namath and Esiason, what are these guys problems? if they want to bash a QB for poor play i can think of a couple other options that qualify more than Sanchez does, for instance Joe Flacco, he has completed 50% or LESS of his passes in 3 out of 5 games he played this season and we dont hear any bashing of him or Josh Freeman with his 7 TDs and 10 INTs, all we hear is how good they are or how much "potential" they have, hell they could even talk smack about Phillip Rivers but they dont, they just single out Sanchez and throw everything away that hes done good and they concentrate on the bad, its like they "expect" him to do bad..Im just sick of it

Gang Green Nation No Love from the Refs

OK, the Jets finished thier 3 game road trip and have gone 0-3 in that span, I know from watching every snap of every game that I feel like we have been robbed in a sense and Rex isnt doing enough about it, I'm talking about the AWFUL officiating in those 3 games.

Against the Raiders we had multiple BAD calls against our Defense ( Cromartie mostly) that were just flat out bogus and unfounded, 1 such call happened on a 3rd down just before Mcfaddens 70 yard TD run, Cro gets flagged in what looked like great coverage, even the announcers were baffled at where the "hold" was, my point is this, mcfadden would have never had a chance to break that long TD if not for the Refs making an awful call and prolonging the Raiders drive when they shouldve been punting...

Against the Ravens i really dont know where to begin because there was soo many bad calls and even worse NON calls that didnt go in the Jets favor, there were 2 roughing the Punter NON calls, there was blatant hands to the face by the Ravens to Mason that happened right in front of a Ref ( literally, Mason was handing ball to Ref and Kruger pushed him in the face), the spear in the back of Sanchez by Ngata that resulted in a fumble TD for the Ravens, even after review they never once mentioned anything about Ngata leading with his helmet ( which is a 15 yard personal foul) and a few others that I cant think of at this moment...

Today against the Patriots I saw Kyle Wilson get flagged for Pass Interference on a 3rd and long, Kyle was turned and looking at the ball in hopes of making an Interception, Hernandez fell down on his own and touched Wilson, if anything that should have been OFFENSIVE Pass Interference but instead the Patriots were awarded a 1st down and extended plays which resulted in a FG...Then we see Branch make a nice catch at about the 2 yard line and nobody touched him, he tried to get up , DID NOT have any knees on the ground and was forced to fumble the ball and Jets recover, they review it and i have no idea what they watched up in that booth but it was clear as day that Branch was making a "football move" when he fumbled and the play should have stood as called with the Jets taking possesion at the 2, instead of 1 play later a Patriot TD...thats 10 points the Refs had IMO given the Patriots today, if you eliminate those points the Jets win 21-20

I'm just glad the road trip is over and hopefully Rex has someone in place that takes all the bad calls that we've witnessed and sends them to the NFL for review.

Gang Green Nation 5 Good, 5 Bad and 1 Ugly Thing from last night

Last nights game left me with a different feeling, not the type of feeling i usually have after the Jets pull out a win but an uneasy feeling about the state of our team. I am overjoyed that we won the game but at the same time I cannot see the stars aligning week in and week out over the course of the season if some major changes do not occur.

Heres the Good...

1. Darelle Revis was targeted 11 times and gave up 2 receptions ( 1 to Dez for 26 yds and 1 to Ogletree for 7 yards) , also Revis had a Interception on a pass intended for Dez that setup the Jets game winning FG.

2. Bart Scott seemed to be everywhere, he was in the backfield blowing up plays most of the night and finished the game with 8 Tackles and 1 Sack.

3. Kyle Wilson looked pretty good in coverage, he showed us great improvement from last year where he was often penalized for P.I., he looked like he had a good idea where the ball was and made a play on the reciever like he should.

4. Mark Sanchez actually looked like an NFL QB, i was pleasantly suprised to see him sling it 44 times and come out of that game with 60% completions,I'm sure he would have had a couple more completed passes if wasnt for some miscommunication on some routes that Plax and Mason were supposed to be running ( I saw Sanchez throw a Quik Slant and Plax never moved off the line as if he were expecting a WR Screen, those plays are all timing and Plax was supposed to be in a certain spot but wasnt, resulting in incompletions..also Mason didnt look comfortable to me at all, especially in the endzone where a pass went right through his hands)

5. Our Special Teams in general and especially Joe Mcknight who made the play of the game by getting his hand in for the Punt Block that allowed Trufant to score a TD and tie the game for us, Nick Folk did a superb job on Kickoffs, he was credited with 4 Touchbacks but his most impressive work was where it mattered most, on FGs..Folk made a 34 yarder in the 2nd qtr and came on to drive home a huge 50 yarder to win the game for us with the weight of the world on his shoulders...it looks as if hes made great strides from his innacurate 2010 season.

The Bad...

1. Antonio Cromartie couldnt cover Dez at all, sure he had the speed to keep up with him but he looked out of position on alot of plays and overmatched, his Kickoff returns were feeble and he even got robbed of an Interception that he had BOTH hands and arms craddled around, lets hope he makes some adjustments or this will be a long season.

2. Shottys gameplan wasnt balanced at all, maybe he thinks we hired Peyton Manning instead of Tom Moore because what i saw was a team that didnt even try and establish the Run game that has led to most of our success over the past 2 seasons, I know this is a Passing league but we need at least 45% of our plays dedicated to the Run.

3. Eric Smith always looked as if he were in the trailing position while the guy he was chasing had a 5 yard lead on him, that should NOT happen to a Safety, i have to wonder why Brodney Pool isnt our starter, Pool is faster and also lays the wood...we seriously need to address this situation.

4. Not getting Keller involved until almost Halftime was mind boggling, also not getting Plax involved until the 3rd qtr just made me shake my head. Those are the 2 players we have that consistently create mismatches ( Plax is 6'6 and Keller is faster than most LBs), we need more plays dedicated to those guys.

5. Calvin Pace, i know he had 3 tackles and a sack but he is a liability in coverage and he doesnt really have the speed needed to be a true OLB Pass Rusher, I lost count of how many passes he let get completed..for a LB I believe you need to be superb in 1 of 2 things( Rushing the Passer or Great Coverage Skills) and Pace isnt superb in either of them.

The Ugly...

Jets Rushing Offense...im not going to try and sugar coat this at all simply because there is no way to do that in this situation, the Jets sucked last night whenever we tried to get the ground game going, it seemed like our entire O Line forgot how to run Block and didnt give our Backs any holes to go through and even when there was a small gap to hit, we just didnt hit it..gaining under 3ypc and less than 50 yards the entire game, this MUST change if we are going to be a successful team this season.

Gang Green Nation The Jets are BETTER than the Patriots..Part 2.

Ok, my eyes started to bleed trying to read almost 775 posts on the original thread created by Nikolai so i decided  that we needed another thread to base our argument out of FACTS that cannot be argued, or if they are argued you must please provide FACTS to back up your case..

Lets start off with our Running Game vs the Pats Run Game

NY Jets 2,374 yards 4.4 avg ... 4th BEST in the NFL

NE Patriots 1,973 yards 4.3 avg...9th BEST in the NFL

Jets Win this argument hands down

Defense

NY Jets ranked 3rd in NFL

NE Patriots ranked 25th in NFL

The Jets ranked 3rd against the Run and 6th against the Pass

The Patriots ranked 11th against the Run and 30th against the Pass

..like Bart Scott famously exclaimed after beating the Pats in the Playoffs "THEY CANT STOP A NOSEBLEED!!"

Jets Win this argument also

Special Teams

With the new Kickoff rule the League has imposed, it will be harder to judge how well either teams Kickoff returns will be this season, but as far as Special Teams coverage goes, i believe the Jets have the better all around unit, we blocked a few punts last year and i dont see that changing this season, we are agressive, i will take Mike Westoff over Scott O'Brien anyday.

Jets Win this area

Secondary

The tandem of Revis & Cromartie helped produce the 6th BEST Pass defense in the NFL last season, they are back again and I see no reason for any regression in this area.

Patriots were 30th in the league against the Pass, up and coming CB Mcourty played good last year but the Pats need someone else to step up and make plays too, i dont see much of a change this season, they may finish 20th against the Pass.

Jets Win this

Coaching

It would be boneheaded for anybody to say they have a better coach than Bill Belichick, I dont even think Rex Ryan would be bold enough to make that statement, but i will say that since Rex has become the Jets coach, he  boasts a winning record vs Belichick in head-to-head matchups and currently holds a 3-2 advantage over him..

This is a Tie...until Belichick can consistently beat Ryan or Vice Versa

QB

Tom Brady is going to the HOF, Mark Sanchez is entering his 3rd season but Sanchez does have a winning record vs Brady (3-2) Manning (2-1),Rivers(1-0)...this is a no brainer, Brady wins this flat out, but time will tell if Sanchez is the real deal, from the improvements we have seen from Mark over these last 2 years, we Jets fans have alot to look forward too.

Pats win this

..........OK, i just basically summed up why the Jets are better than the Pats, if you agree or disagree please post below :)

Gang Green Nation Heres a BAD Idea..

i know this idea wont sit too well with alot of people but just think about it for a second...after reading all this talk about wasting a draft Pick on Terrelle Pryor and also we may lose Brad Smith to Free Agency, why not bring in Jawalrus Russel and see if he can lose some weight and become that "scrambler" we all remember from his college days? No way in hell should he be considered a QB, but if he is willing to put in some effort and not have the weight of the world on his shoulders like he did in Oakland i think he could be a great fit for our version of the "wildcat"..hes pretty mobile and regardless of popular belief he can sling the ball if needed...and to top it off he would probably come VERY cheap and we wouldnt have to waste a Draft Pick to get him, just a simple "invite" to camp..what do you think?

Poll
Should the Jets Bring in Jawalrus Russel?
YES!!! i think he could replace Brad Smith

NO!!! that fatass would do better trying out as an O Lineman

maybe..if he brought Skittles to practice and bribed Rex with them

Gang Green Nation Free Agent LBs for the Jets

Ok, we are into the 6th round of the Draft and havent even considered a LB that can rush the QB at all, with that being said, I have a strong feeling that Rex and Tanny may be looking forward to the opening of Free Agency, but who might be available?  heres just a few names that will become Free Agents once the Lockout is lifted...

Steelers- Lamar Woodley...we can dream cant we?

Bills- Paul Posluszny...may be the odd man out in the Bills crowded LB depth

Ravens- Tavares Gooden...has good speed and hes another Raven

Browns- D'Qwell Jackson...prototype 3-4 OLB, could be a good fit

Raiders- Kamerion Wimbley...played in a 3-4 before being traded to Raiders, good speed

....I would LOVE for the Jets to grab Woodley but his price tag may be astronomical,  im not sure how highly Rex regards these other LBs which leads me to believe the Jets are leaning towards Jason Taylor for 1 more season...what do you think?

Gang Green Nation GGN Mock Pick 1

Carolina Panthers select with the 1st overall Pick of this years Draft...

Julio Jones  Alabama  WR

After fully examining the Panthers roster and performance from last season I came to the conclusion that their biggest need was a playmaking WR that could stretch the field and give young QB Clausen a reliable target...The Panthers finished last season ranked 32nd in the league in total Offense and Passing yards, Julio Jones fits the type of player they need desperatly....this was a very difficult pick considering I had the choice of anybody that I wanted and almost went with a DT, but noticing how deep this Class is at that position i figured it was worth a gamble to wait and see what DTs will be available with the first pick in the 3rd round...also there are a couple of CBs that really jump off the board here, but the Panthers actually played very good against the Pass last season finishing 11th best in the League....with Clausen having a full season under his belt, adding a WR of Jones calibur is a must.

Dawgs By Nature Is Colt the REAL McCoy?

Hey fellas, Jet fan here with a couple questions about next weeks matchup...first i want to congradulate you guys for completly dominating the Patriots, that was an awsome job, it was really nice to see Belecheat  frown during and after the game :) ...anyways, I noticed that Colt McCoy has really been a nice suprise the past 3 games, beating the Saints and Patriots in that span, will Mangini stick with him? i was reading that he hasnt decided who is the starting QB, if you ask me it would definetly be McCoy, you gotta stick with whats been working and Colt seems to be the answer...im trying to get some insight as to the type of QB he is and what the Jets should expect from him this week, does he like to throw it deep or does he mostly use high percentage passes such as screens and slants? does he scramble often? how does he react in the face of a Blitz? also i am interested in whats going on with Peyton Hillis, hes been a BEAST this season and seems almost unstoppable, kinda like a young Mike Alstott..does Hillis have good speed or is he basically a Bruiser type RB that smashes thru the Line and breaks alot of tackles to gain all those yards? as far as WRs are concerned, who are your teams playmakers on the outside and at TE that we should be concerned with?....thanks in advance  for the input fellas and lets hope for a good clean injury free game on Sunday!!
