Keith Law on the Rizzo Trade
*Insider Only
Good roundup of the trade. Gives the Cubs a slight edge.
"deal really boils down to a good everyday player (Rizzo) for a high-ceiling reliever (Cashner), which favors the Cubs overall."
Good article on Sveum from ESPN
Some very encouraging and positive notes about Sveum within this piece by Melissa Isaacson of ESPN Chicago
ESPN's Jerry Crasnick on Castro and Barney
Good article from Crasnick on the Cubs' double play combo.

Chris Carpenter Being Called Up
per Bruce levine within this chat: Breaking news:the Cubs will promote right-handed pitcher Chris Carpenter from the minor leagues.
Cubs- Red Sox Trade in the works?
From Phil Rogers orginally (take that for what it's worth), posted now ESPN (insider needed )
The Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs may be discussing a deal that would send right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka to the Chicago Cubs for outfielder Kosuke Fukudome,
Z to pen. No joke. Lou just announced it.
Samardzija still not up to speed?
From Keith Law (Insider required for part of it)
"The hasty promotions deprived him of critical development time, and it showed in his outing on Friday, when he was serving up something slightly better than batting practice to the Brewers' lineup."
Since he didn't pitch either day I was out in AZ, has anyone else seen him pitch live this spring? Is he really looking that bad?
If he doesn't win a spot in the rotation, what should they do with him? Pen or AAA?
Sheets' Workout
via Trenni Kusnierek of the MLB Network. She posted updates to her Twitter account during Sheets' workout today in LA. Some positive things, but I'd definitely like to see what actual scouts have to say about it in the coming days.
Big Z: Cub for Life
Let's hope Zambrano is not only in the great shape he says he's in, but stays that way throughout the season.

Grace on McGwire
Yet another reason why Grace will always be my favorite Cub.
Richie Incognito released?
According to Adam Scheffter's Twitter feed: Rams have released G Richie Incognito, a former third-round pick who had a verbal argument with HC Steve Spagnuolo on Sunday.
What do you think about Incognito to the Bears?
Reed Johnson's New Blog Post
Reed is a class act. Even though we might not truly need him back next year, I hope management finds a way to keep him. As we found out this year, there is something to be said about good clubhouse guys.
Look! I don't need this! I was in "Jaws", okay?!
Sun-Times article showing us once again, that the Celebrity 7th Inning Stretch must end.
I was at the game and missed this gem on TV. What a train wreck.
side note: classic SNL clip of Dreyfuss Star Wars audition.
Once again, no respect
The mighty braintrust in Bristol don't seem to like the bears this year.
Not only that, but it's unanimous that Green Bay will win this week:

Who do you think will go down? Shark?
Cubs sales deal finalized
Just got this on a Trib email alert.
source said the sales price is "close" to the $900 million bid the Ricketts offered earlier this year

Slightly OT: Cubs Season Ticket Waiting List
I was wondering how everyone is coming along on the season ticket waiting list.
1. How long have you been on the list?
2. How many spots did you move up this past year?
3. What spot are you currently sitting at?
4. If you just recently (in the past 5 years) got season tickets, how many years did you have to wait?
I'm currently sitting at 2441 and have been on it for 5 years. I only moved up a couple hundred spots from last year. At this rate, my kids (who don't exist yet) will get to enjoy them.
Soriano at 2B?!?!
Need a subscription to see but picked this out:
As for what these teams should do... the Cubs should sit tight and enjoy the recent uptick in offense from Derrek Lee and Geovany Soto. It looks like tonight Lou found himself with Soriano playing some second base. I like that kind of creativity. Now, if he could just move Soriano down out of the leadoff spot in the batting order, that would truly be something.
Has anyone else heard of this from any other sources? Would definitely shock me. I can already feel myself cringe.
Ryan Freel?
Rosenthal says the Cubs and O's are talking about a trade for utilityman Ryan Freel.
Thoughts?
Cards Drop Trade Demands for Boldin
If all they're asking for is a 2nd and some change...why wouldn't the Bears be all over that?
Kevin Towers Chat on ESPN
Can we put the you know who posts to rest for awhile now?
Corey, Oceanside, CA: Hello Kevin, has the change in ownership decreased the urgency to deal Peavy? Will you shed some light of Jeff Moorads feelings on a possible Peavy deal? And looking back, will you explain your "train has left the station" comments regarding a possible Peavy deal.Kevin Towers: (1:59 PM ET ) It was a mistake on my part, to say that, as I was rushed with media types leaving the meeting. I made a statement I probably should not have made. I have a great relationship with Jake, still do, and as of right now it looks like will start the season with us.; We went into the meetings probing to see if there was a deal that made sense for Jake, knowing we would ask a ton for him and if someone was willing to step we may have dealt him, but no deal presented to us we felt was good about. I have not had any talks with Jeff Moorad, but knowing Jeff and the premium hew put on piutching in Arizona, without putting words in his mouth, I would imagine he would want top keep Jake, but that is without having had any discussions over the matter with him.
Paul (Charleston, IL): Kevin, what are your thoughts on a salary cap for baseball? Also, could you please not trade Jake Peavy to the Cubs. Thanks.
Kevin Towers: (2:05 PM ET ) First of all Charleston was one of my favorite places to play in the minor leagues. I do not think there will ever be a cap. Certainly revenue sharing and the luxury tax has helped but I think the Player Association is too strong. And I do not want to move Jake either, so I hope he has continues to have a long and successful career here.
RosenBlog on Dunn vs. Bradley
Usually I don't care for the RosenBlog, but I think he hit the nail on the head today.
Adam Dunn
I thought I'd start my first ever post off with a topic that will sure to have mixed opinions.
Would having Adam Dunn in the middle of our lineup be that awful? Yes, I know his defense makes Sori look like a Gold Glove, but the man can hit and is at least adequate in the field. A power lefty in the 3-5 hole would be a great asset.
It's been posted over the last couple days how it might be beneficial to move Sori over to RF. I think it'd be an easier switch than to center. If Sosa could do it, Sori can too.
Finally, if (as stated several times in the early offseason) D Lee is moved eventually, Dunn can plug right in at first.
Dunn playing 81 games at Wrigley could possibly put up very gaudy offensive numbers (and probably some equally ugly defensive stats as well).
This also depends on how the market starts shaking out and what Dunn is actually expecting to receive.
Thoughts?
