2009 Arizona Cardinals to Feature Two Offensive Coordinators

As reported by Darren Urban of AZcardinals.com, Coach Whisenhunt has announced that the 2009 offense will feature two coordinators. Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Line Coach Russ Grimm will be promoted to Run Game Coordinator, and Wide Receivers Coach Mike Miller will be the Passing Game Coordinator. It is assumed at this time that Whiz will go back to being the lead play caller on game days.

Along with his new duties, it has also been reported that Grimm will continue to coach the offensive line. So for those of you keeping track, he will now be titled "Assistant Head Coach/Running Game Coordinator/Offensive Line Coach", so I expect you all to address him as such. :-)

In addition, in house Defensive Quality Control Coach Matt Raich has been promoted to Linebackers coach to replace the spot vacated by new DC Bill Davis. Two outside hires were also made, including former NFL quarterback Chris Miller to replace Rutledge at quarterbacks coach, and former Rutgers Offensive Coordinator/quarterbacks coach John McNulty will replace Mike Miller as wide receivers coach.

So, what do you fellow ROTBers think of the joint coordinator move? Has anyone ever know this to be done, and do you think Whiz should go back to calling plays?

Update: After some research, the Cowboys actually went with the running game coordinator/passing game coordinator combo during the Parcell's Era. In fact, our very own (former Offensive Coordinator) Todd Haley was the wide receivers coach/passing game coordinator for three seasons in Dallas. It looks like the Cardinals could be grooming Miller to be their 'OC of the future.'

Poll
What do you think of the split offensive coordinator system for the 2009 Arizona Cardinals?
Brilliant Idea - Grimm and Miller will excell as specialists

Has potential to work, but could also fail miserably

Too many cooks in the kitchen. Will only lead to head butting

Clancy Pendergast to coach in Kansas City

As reported by ESPN.com's Mike Sando, Arizona Cardinal's former Defensive Coordinator Clancy Pendergast and current offensive assistant Dedric Ward have followed new Kansas City Head Coach Todd Haley over to the Chiefs.

The official staff designations have not been released at this time, but it can only be assumed  that Pendergast will regain his title as Defensive Coordinator for his new team. Ward, current Offensive Quality Control Coach for the Cardinals, could presumably step up to an offensive position coach under existing Kansas City Offensive Coordinator Chan Gailey. All offensive position coaches with the exception of OL are open at this time, which is currently held by Bob Bicknell.

We probably should have seen this one coming considering Haley could use some familiar faces on his staff while he focuses on the head coaching position, but most importantly, will the media and football fans begin referring to Kansas City as "Arizona East"?

Arizona Cardinals lose LB Chris Harrigton to Bengals

Cardinals 6th round draft pick from this year, LB Chris Harrington, was signed to the Cincinnati Bengals active roster. Harrington was cut in the preseason this year but later resigned to the practice squad. The Bengals have been plagued by injuries all year and currently have 17 players listed on Injured Reserve including high profile rookie LB Keith Rivers from USC. Our Arizona Cardinals have only two, a league low at this time. Cincinnati has been steady in picking up the Cardinal's defensive leftovers this year after signing Darryl Blacktock in the offseason, and they recently signed CB Marcus Brown to their practice squad. Brown played in the first three preseason games this year for the Cardinals.

Arizona Cardinals Vs. Philadelphia Eagles Injury Report

The Arizona Cardinals head back east today just slightly less banged up than their opponent, the Philadelphia Eagles. While the Eagles have injuries to their top 2 running backs, the Cardinals have multiple injuries to their secondary. Expect the Eagles offense to be airing it out a little more than they would normally. In related news, Donovan McNabb is expected to start at QB after being benched last week against the Ravens.

Who's down to meet up for the game Sunday?

Any valley locals hitting the sports bar scene for the game Sunday? I have been trying to find a good place in town to view the away games, but haven't had much luck so far. This will be the first one this season that I will be in town for.

I live on the east side and was planning on hitting Valle Luna in Chandler. I hear they feature the Cards games primarily and do food & drink specials plus some memorabilia giveaways.
