Doesn't he? He doesn't make the big mistake INT but he never throws it down field much until the end of the game when he has to. They also both like to hang on to the ball in the pocket for waaay too long. Still he puts you in position to win, but you would never count on him to win you games on his own. Thats not a bad thing, but seriously I wouldn't pay Huard $60 mil for 6 years and I'm still upset we did the same for Cassel. Like Huard, Cassel is an elite backup qb. Maybe a slightly above average starting qb. I say unless you have a top tier qb, you don't lock yourselves down to him for the long haul.

Other observations.

Legget and Albert have seriously regressed this year. Which got me thinking. Has ANY player actually made any significant improvement from last year??? Seems like all our players have regressed for the most part. Flowers might be the only improved young player on our team.

Also I found it hysterical that we chose to run our first wildcat play of the year the week AFTER we traded Tyler Thigpen. Haley isn't utilizing our talent to their ability. Good coaches make average players look great by putting them in position to play. (Schottenheimer, Vermeil, ...Gailey (Thigpen)............

Cold Hard Truth

Scott Pioli and Todd Haley have not been perfect and for the most part I'm happy with them. Here are the cold hard reasons for why we should still be deeply concerned:

 Player Developement:

Brandon Albert: Coach Todd Haley has repeatedly said he has done EVERYTHING the coaches have asked him. Yet he has regressed. That is clearly a reason for concern with the coaches. Personally, I think they had Albert lose too much weight but who knows. Big fail here.

Jamaal Charles: Can no one teach this guy how to hold onto the ball or does he just need to hit the gym and beef up those arms? Either way its a strength and conditioning factor or coaching factor. Or he could just be dumb...

Derrick Johnson: This and D Bowe I feel is just a poor use of talent problem more than anything...

Drafting and Player Acquisition:

The Patriots never just acquired players they were familiar with so why is Pioli leaning on this factor so much? If this continues into next season I'm going to be concerned.

The Draft:

Considering where we were selecting you would have hoped for more impact players. Right now only Succop and Jackson are contributing regularly. For a team that is lacking so much talent that is really concerning. Sure we hit a home run it seems on Mays and Belchor, but on a playoff team these guys would be backups. Personally I also really like Jackson, but he just doesn't strike me as a winner or a leader. Vrabel so far is my pick up of the year for the Chiefs. (This is not looking into the future)

I know you can't judge a draft till 2-3 years down the line but I'm disappointed we couldn't get more impact players given the quality of talent on this team. They weren't Pioli's scouts so I'll give him a pass on this one. (BTW I'm tired of giving out passes and being understanding. There shouldn't be excuses.)

Matt Cassel: I like him. I like him a lot. I just don't think we should have given him such a large contract before playing a snap. He's not an elite qb and he never will be. I don't think it was worth us tying ourselves down to him for the long term when we had so much cap room to test him out on a franchise tag anyways. This could be the Achilles heal and fall of this regime...

Coaching. I like Haley's no nonsense approach. Reminds me of Bill Self. What does concern me is that Haley is not nearly as personable as Self. Haley is in a little over his head. I'll give him time to get settled though ($%#%! Having to being patient again. Great). What concerns me more than anything is Haley thinking our running attack would be our best asset when in fact its hurting us most on offense right now. That deep oversight has hurt us a lot and being able to find our identity.

Chiefs = The Royals right now. Not spending all the cap and giving away our best players

Chiefs = The Raiders right now. Lots of stupid penalties and finding ways to lose games late (Raiders game. How ironic)

(Anyone else he wonder what if we still had Jared Allen and Tony G. Not impressed with the return and you know we would be a completely different team right now if they were here. Jared Allen is a future hall of famer and so is Tony G. You don't give those up. Carl focused way too heavily on the "off field issues" thinking too much about "doing the right thing." PIoli did what he thought was right and while I don't disagree with it, he better damn well get something good with that pick or else hes going to have A LOT of angry Chiefs fans)
