Statement by NCAA President Mark Emmert on Cam Newton Eligibility
“We recognize that many people are outraged at the notion that a parent or anyone else could “shop around” a student-athlete and there would possibly not be repercussions on the student-athlete’s eligibility.
I’m committed to further clarifying and strengthening our recruiting and amateurism rules so they promote appropriate behavior by students, parents, coaches and third parties. We will work aggressively with our members to amend our bylaws so that this type of behavior is not a part of intercollegiate athletics.”

Breaking News - NCAA addresses Cam Newton's eligibility
Just posted on the NCAA Website:
Auburn University football student-athlete Cam Newton is immediately eligible to compete, according to a decision today by the NCAA student-athlete reinstatement staff. The NCAA concluded on Monday that a violation of amateurism rules occurred, therefore Auburn University declared the student-athlete ineligible yesterday for violations of NCAA amateurism rules.
When a school discovers an NCAA rules violation has occurred, it must declare the student-athlete ineligible and may request the student-athlete’s eligibility be reinstated. Reinstatement decisions are made by the NCAA national office staff and can include conditions such as withholding from competition and repayment of extra benefits. Newton was reinstated without any conditions.
Could This Be Good News??
None of this has any bearing as it relates to what the NCAA may or may not do but it makes for an interesting read nonetheless; and perhaps provides a bit of hope.
WSB-TV in Atlanta is reporting tonight that "Auburn star quarterback Cam Newton could clear an NCAA investigation if he did not know about negotiations going on about money to play at another college, according to an expert in the rules governing college football."

For What It's Worth -- From Rivals.com
Interesting read below; although, as you might expect, there are no "named sources" but, it has every right (and perhaps more) to be accepted as "truth" as some of the other articles being floated around.
According to the Rivals.com article, "Two independent sources with detailed knowledge of the UF academic discipline system during the period in question have disputed the Evans story. According to the sources, no allegations of academic impropriety regarding Cam Newton were sent to the Florida Student Conduct Committee at any time either during or after Newton's time at UF."
Miss. State's Nick Bell loses battle with cancer

Please keep the family and friends of Nick Bell in your thoughts and prayers. This brave young man started two games for the Miss. State Bulldogs, against Georgia and Auburn, and died today after a battle with cancer.
There is also a memorial fund set up to assist the family; details of this fund can be found at the link above.
Joker Phillips - "We Know How To Beat This Team..."
In case you haven't seen it, Joker Phillips has stated that his "Cats "confident they can beat Auburn"...
http://www.kentucky.com/2010/10/05/1464578/cats-confident-they-can-beat-auburn.html
While he acknowledges that Auburn is a better team than last year, he further states that Kentucky is also better and, when playing consistently, can beat anyone..
While I think it possible, and perhaps probable, that KY will be able to move the ball with their passing game, I simply think that Newton and Co. will prove too much.
