Phillies Prospect Arrested
"Phillies prospect Tyson Gillies, one of the three players acquired in the Cliff Lee trade this past offseason, was arrested for cocaine possession in Clearwater, Fla., early Friday morning."
Well that's gotta suck for them.
Jose Guillen DFA'd
We probably won't have interest right?
Braves talk about being more patient this year
'"We seem like we’re a patient team," Jason Heyward said Sunday. "We don’t give any at-bats away."'
'Said Chipper Jones, drafted by this organization in 1990: "I never thought I’d see it here. Bobby Cox’s way is to sit back and wait for the three-run homer. This team is more suited to my liking — .300 hitters, .400 on-base percentages."'
'Said Pendleton, laughing: "I can honestly say we’ve been a team that swings first and thinks about it later."'
So what is the catalyst for this? Heyward?
Chipper sets Braves walk record
"With his sixth-inning walk Thursday night against the Marlins, Chipper Jones reached 1,377 walks for his career and surpassed Hall of Famer Eddie Mathews for the Braves franchise record in walks. He added one more in the seventh to give him 1,378 for his career and 35 on the season, which is third-best in the majors."
Pretty cool.
Jeff Schultz calls KK the worst ATL FA pickup ever.
Why can't the TC writers write for the AJC? This is pretty much garbage.
"Kawakami, quite possibly the worst free agent acquisition in Atlanta Braves history, lost again Tuesday night, this time 6-4 to Florida. He is now 0-7 after nine starts. At this pace, he will go 0-25 in 32 starts. He’ll make over $7.33 million this season. I wasn’t very good in math so I’m not sure yet how that factors out per victory."
Deunte Heath Arrested in Prostitution Sting
"Right-handed pitcher Deunte Heath was caught in a police operation that used Web sites like craigslist.org to advertise potential sexual liaisons, Orlando ABC TV affiliate WFTV reported."
Wow.
Keith Law's Top 100 Prospects
Requires Insider for the whole thing.
Just from the list on the little toolbar on the right, we have five in the top 100.
1 - Jason Heyward
43 - Arodys Vizcaino
63 - Julio Teheran
67 - Freddie Freeman
85 - Randall Delgado.
I do not understand Freddie's rankings anywhere.
Chipper is Confident about Next Season
"I'm just going to use last year as a motivational tool and come back with a monster."
Let's hope that happens. Nice interview with Chip.
Rob Neyer's take on Dale Murphy's HOF Candidacy
"Murphy was probably better than roughly half the center fielders in the Hall of Fame. On the other hand, the same could be said for a number of center fielders, including Reggie Smith, Jimmy Wynn, and perhaps even Bernie Williams.
For me, it's an exceptionally close call. At the moment, I'm going to reluctantly say no, in part because Murphy actually spent less than half his career in center field. For me, he's still one good season short of clearing the BBWAA bar."
How many years of eligibility has he got left?
Braves lose Scouting Director Roy Clark to Nationals
You can't blame Roy Clark, really... he saw an opportunity to jump up the ladder and took it. Lots of thanks for all the good draft classes and years of prosperity on the farm.
Well, Frank Wren REALLY can put his own stamp on the organization now, huh? Manager and Scouting Director need replacements...
Boog is leaving us!
http://www.ajc.com/sports/atlanta-braves/jon-boog-sciambi-leaving-153186.html
We all love Boog and his wittiness and will miss him dearly, I'm sure. How about a thread to post your favorite Boog quotes/memories?
It's good to see him moving up. He'll be taking a full-time job at ESPN.
Sciambi will be calling both Major League Baseball and college basketball games on TV and radio for ESPN, with whom he has worked part-time since 2005.

Jayson Stark's Latest Column
"Yes, it looks all but certain that Tim Hudson will be returning to the Braves next year. But no, that doesn't mean the Braves will look to trade Javier Vazquez.
Clubs that have felt out the Braves on this came away with the feeling they're more likely to deal someone like Jo-Jo Reyes than Vazquez or even Kenshin Kawakami, unless they're offered a legit middle-of-the-order bat in return.
Not so likely to return in Atlanta: The Braves' prospective free-agent back-of-the-bullpen tandem of Rafael Soriano and Mike Gonzalez."
Furman Bisher: "Cox can’t walk away from richly stocked Braves"
Hey wait, now we're "richly stocked?" Oh, that Furman
