Marlins at the trade dealine - Buyers or Sellers?
It's going to be tough to decide what they're going to do at the deadline. They won't be sellers, that's for sure. I think the front office has showed that they're serious about winning by making the pick ups they've made for the bullpen.
That being said, there is not much that they can do with the offense with the budget they give themselves, unless theysurprise the hell out of their fans (which would be nice). They certainly need to do something to bolster that offense and offer H2R some protection (i.e. Pujols and Holliday). They Marlins would love to do that at a cheap price but not risk they're 'defensive' game. They could go and take Adam Dunn off the Nats hands, but he is an "everything else outside of offense" liability. Same thing with Travis Hafner. A name that i've heard being thrown around is Luke Scott of the O's. He has great numbers ( .281-18 HR-53 RBI-.364 On Base %-.542 Slugging) and could provide a decent bat for them and plays a corner outfield position which would be great.
Another name being thrown around is Scott Rolen. This would be an ideal catch for the fish. He is a proven .300 hitter when healthy and he's a hell of a lot better than Bonifacio defensively.
