Marcus Spears (knee) and Alex Barron (finger) injured at practice today.

18
From ESPN: Starting defensive end Marcus Spears suffered a sprained MCL in his left knee with about 20 minutes left in Thursday's practice. Spears is expected to be sidelined for up to six weeks and his status for the season opener against Washington on Sept. 12 is in question. Jason Hatcher, who is playing with a hyperextended elbow, is likely to move into the starting lineup. Meanwhile, swing tackle Alex Barron sustained a dislocated left pinky finger at the end of practice. Barron is questionable for the Cowboys' first preseason game Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals in Canton, Ohio.

Anthony Spencer Questionable for Sunday's Game w/Bruised Achilles

+
From Tom Orsborn: Wade Phillips said Spencer was held out for precautionary reasons. He was replaced by second-year player Victor Butler. "He had a great day today," Phillips said of Butler. "He started out slow (at camp) but then the last four to five practices he's really practiced well and rushed the passer like we thought he could." Wide receiver Dez Bryant, defensive lineman Sean Lissemore, offensive lineman Montrae Holland and safety Patrick Watkins will all sit out Sunday's game with injuries.

Alamodome fans losing patience with Roy Williams. How patient will you be with him this season? Roy just dropped a pass, square in his hands, and was promptly booed by the crowd. One fan went as far as to say, "Roy, we wish it was you that was hurt!" BlueStarBlog

Martellus Bennett (ankle) expected to practice today.

57

"Bennett, who spent the first nine practices in San Antonio rehabbing on the sidelines, suffered the injury while working out independent of the team at Valley Ranch. Although he is encouraged by Bennett's progress, head coach Wade Phillips said that the team will treat the third-year tight end's return with care." Here is the team's injury list: S Akwasi Owusu-Ansah (shoulder/hamstring); TE Martellus Bennett (ankle), NT Josh Brent (hand); DE Jason Hatcher (elbow); LB Stephen Hodge (knee, on physically unable to perform list); LB Sean Lee (quadriceps); NT Sean Lissemore (groin), S Pat Watkins (knee).

Jerry Jones says DE Marcus Spears is too "valuable" to trade..."period". "We're just not interested, period," Jones said when asked about speculation by the Miami Herald that the Cowboys could trade Spears to the Dolphins. "His play is one of the strengths of that group. We're willing to take this thing into the season the way it is. We just have no interest." The Cowboys allowed the fewest points in the NFC last season, and Jones suggested that he believes the run-stuffing Spears was a big part of that. "Spears, I think, is too valuable for us for what we've got a chance to do," Jones said. mysanantonio.com

Flozell to Steelers? Not so fast! Adams visited the Steelers on Tuesday and took a physical, but he doesn't have a deal with the team. Adams' agent, Jordan Woy, told the Steelers that he's drawing interest from at least three other clubs, according to a team source. The Steelers got the impression that Adams isn't ready to make a decision on where he will sign, and money also could be an issue. Adams, who was scheduled to earn over $7 million with the Dallas Cowboys before his release this offseason, is looking for a $4 million deal for 2010, according to the source. The Steelers were hesitant to go that high. NFL.com

24
"Moooose(!)" Johnston recently shared his thoughts on the Cowboys running back situation: As you guys know I'm a big locker-room-chemistry kind of guy. The team seemed very tight. You heard about the work ethic and maturity of players like Martellus Bennett. Felix Jones, really improving this year, which I thought was really kind of scary. It's like, he's like, vastly improved from what he was last year. I think he is going to add a dimension thats going to really scare some defensive coaches around the NFL. [snip] I think Felix, because of his big-play potential, has earned the right to have more snaps, especially early in the game. I think Marion's strength is taking time off the clock late in the game. But that doesn't mean he's a third- or fourth-quarter back. I think he needs his touches in the first half, too. Tashard has shown that he deserves more touches. It's a great position for Jason Garrett to be in and it's a difficult situation to try to make everyone happy. DMN
