Braylon Edwards... injured?
Braylon was asked to report Monday with the Rookies and he was a No-Show. Braylon eventually reported on Tuesday and was immediately placed on the Active/NFI List.
Does anyone have any thoughts as to what his ailment is? Could this be the reason he was "untradeable" in April? Even though we were led to believe that the Browns wanted a 1st and 2nd and the Giants would not pony up that much for Mr Dropsy. Were the Giants aware of this "issue"?
With this being a contract year I am curious why Mangini is keeping this hush hush. No way Braylon is a Brown next season anyways so if he isnt traded by Week 5 I would assume he will hit the FA Market come next spring.
To clarify, I think Braylon is DONE with Cleveland. I think he is a solid guy and will continue to be a solid pro but with the drops last season along with the huge blowup he displayed earlier this year stating he has done millions of dollars worth of charities for the city of Cleveland and if he continues to be disrespected he will take his charitable donations to Detroit. I just have this gut feeling he wants to prove he is a star this season and get out of dodge.
So I am hoping he comes balls out and has a 07 type season but if he does you gotta think he is FOR SURE done as a Brown? If teams see that he had such an impact year with a Pro Bowl season already under his belt will we even be able to resign him?
2009 Bengals
It seems each year the Steelers and even the Ravens come out victorious over our beloved Browns which forces us to cheer even harder when we play the Bengals trying to get at least 1 or 2 divisional victories.
What about this year? The Steelers are the Steelers and the Ravens are only going to get better (at least on offense); I am still waiting for all the rumors about the Ravens defense being too old and slow to compete at previous high levels but it never comes to fruition.
The Bengals are poised to start 4 new Offensive Linemen (or new to their position) which some would classify as football suicide. With a healthy Carson it seems they are not doing their due diligence to keep him protected with this move. Cutting Levi Jones (to me) was odd since he was not making an extraordinary amount in 09 – But I realize he has a problem staying healthy so this I am sure factored into the decision.
Obviously, any player can have their career cut short with one shot to the knee but Carson has been down that road already and with as bad as the team plays without him, he seems to be their only hope of sniffing a playoff berth.
So my question to all of you: Will the weak and embarrassing Browns defense be about to penetrate the newly formed Bengals OL and get to Carson this year?
I have always been a pessimistic person and I will admit I am worried about this season. Each year I approach the new season as a fresh start with an "anything can happen" attitude but this year I have a different feeling. (I know it is early) but with a new coach and new scheme I think it is safe to say the rebuilding has begun (a phrase synonymous with the Cleveland Browns)
SHAFFER CUT
1.5 million doesn't seem like much of a bonus...... Why not keep the guy?
Tucker is the starter BUT when was the last time he made it a full season?
I am fine with ManKok bringing in thier own guys, and trading K2, but how can we release a solid RT that has started 86 games
And I have read we now have 5 million in "dead money" taken away from our cap number.
This makes zero sense.
JEREMY MACLIN A BROWN?
CHECK THIS OUT..................................
http://www.waitingfornextyear.com/?p=8492
Is this some fancy editing/formatting from a fan trying to be funny or could this actually have happened?
Is there a employee upset with Mangini, his decisions, the firing of other employees, or something else that would prompt someone in house to post this?
I doubt it holds water but how intriguing would that be?
Crabtree is a stud but doesn't have the wheels that Maclin has and Maclin has some great hands as well.
Could Maclin be the 1st WR taken? Or is this rumor only if Crabtree goes in the Top 5.......
Thoughts?
COWBOYS
Owens and Roy Williams (SS) have been released.
Is ManKok interested? These are 2 needs the Browns have.
The list (on profootballtalk.com) is growing of teams who have said they do NOT want T.O. so maybe he would come cheap..
He may have a big mouth BUT at least he catches the ball.
Williams makes sense (if comes cheap) with the potential of losing Sean Jones, but everyone feels he may have lost a step.
BRAYLON trade rumors.....
Ok, does anyone beleive Mangini was actively shopping K2 since he arrived in Cleveland?
I have a feeling he has been shopping Mr Dropsy Edwards and when Tampa was called on about a trade they said "No thanks, but we wouldn't mind having K2"
Regardless, I think there is a solid chance both of Cleveland top offensive targets could be done in Cleveland soon.
I have heard rumors of the Giants wanting Braylon for Mathias Kiwanuka.
I am torn because I think it would be great to get Kiwi but can we afford to lose both of our top two recieving threats?
Phil Savage was (is) an idiot !
http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2009/02/browns_analysis_as_draft_appro.html
Regardless of what we do with DA his cap number stays at 8 mill plus due to the structure of Savage's contract. The whole advantage of trading DA before March 1st was to not only avoid paying the 5 million bonus but to also better in a cap friendly way.
Even though there are many teams in need of a signal caller there are just as many QB's available via free agency.
I put our chances of trading DA before the March 1st bonus deadline at 0%. Once we pay that figure I assume SF, Carolina and NYJ will be calling because DA's salary for 09 is a measily 1.5 million.
Stupid Browns.
Sean Jones
What will new coach Eric Mangini do with Sean Jones?
Let him test the market? Franchise Tag him? Try to work out a long term deal?
Yes, he had a down year but I doubt he was 100% either. It would be nice to get to a point where our DB's are solid enough that Sean could roam around and be that atypical AFC North Safety.
Mike Adams is also a free agent. Brodney Poole has had his share of concussions so the secondary is not looking to solid at this point.
I assume Adams will resign for a reasonable amount and if Poole can stay on the field Adams would be a solid backup but what if Jones leaves? Is Adams and Poole good enough of a tandem to play safety in the NFL?

MANGINI TO BE NAMED HC BY END OF WEEK??
Per Michael Holley of WEEI.com
Along with this is the news that Mangini will look to bring multiple coaches from the Jets organization as well... Is this a good thing? Do we want to see Chud hit the road? I am fine with Tucker leaving and even ok with Crennel sticking around to help the defense out (based solely on the lockerroom respect from players for him) but I am not so sure I want to get rid of Chud just yet....
Let's hope that he brings a few players as well..... (Thomas Jones would be nice)
Pioli to interview as soon as Tuesday
Mary Kay Cabott says he is very interested in the open GM position in Cleveland.
If Pioli is brought on I assume he will not want to work with Mangini with all the SpyGate stuff, but does anyone else think he got screwed>>??
I, personally would love to get Mangini as our next head coach since Cowher is a no go.
He has a .500 record over course of 3 seasons. I know the Jets fell apart at seasons end this year but Mangini was a solid coordinator n New England and I would say a servicable head coach for the Jets that i my eyes can only get better.
He is 37. Cleveland would be very lucky to land him.
depressing.... pathetic.... embarrassing
How do you give up 191 yards rushing to a 2 win team in 40 MPH winds.....
Everyone knew they were going to run and yet no adjustments are made.
All this talk about the Lions being the record setting worst team in Football...
Cleveland is a close 2nd. No offensive TD's in how many quarters???
Cowher will not come to this miserable team. He is not that stupid.
Bring on another coordinator who thinks he can coach in the NFL............
Someone should have thrown the dumbbell at Mel Tucker instead of Quinn... Maybe that way we could have had someone else calling the defensive sets..
Do we WANT to win this weekend?
I hate quitters and always laugh when my Bengal fan friends root against thier team at seasons end so they get a better draft pick. I think you should try to win every game you start. But with that being said.,,,,,
With this years class coming in and our glaring needs at defense, should we want to "lose-out" the remaining games?
The Pitt game can be chalked up as a loss already but we are playing a beatable Bengals team. SHOULD we win?
3-4 or 4-3 There are many teams in the top 10 who will be looking either QB or defense.
Aaron Curry, Rey Maualuga, Michael Johnson and Malcolm Jenkins would all look good in a Browns uniform.
So what if we win out? (Cincy stinks and Pitt lays down since they have spot clinched)
Is it worth losing out on one of these Top 5 talent guys?
Cowher Buys House in Cleveland?
Link: COWHER RUMORS FLY IN CLEVELANDApparently, plenty of folks in Cleveland have heard that former Steelers coach Bill Cowher has bought a home in Strongsville, Ohio.
...
So we’d be very surprised to learn that Cowher actually has purchased a house in the Cleveland area or that, if so, he has done it because he plans on coaching the Browns. Even if Lerner had entered into a wink-nod arrangement with Cowher, it would be beyond stupid for Cowher to buy a house in Cleveland months before the plan can unfold.
Edit by Chris: Removed entire pasting of article, and made the link to article a little more clear. Also changed the headline somewhat.
Injuries Injuries Injuries
It has been a rough road thus far for Browns fans with two tough matchups and two tough losses.
With the depleted defensive unit full of its injuries we now have to worry about the O-line. Hadnot is back but Steinbach hasn't practiced for a few days and may not be able to go at Baltimore.
Against that defense this is a nightmare! Our right side has already been taken advantage of this season as our strong point is that left side. Tucker may get the nod over at LG which could work out but the chemistry that Eric and Joe have established is going to be sorely missed with each week Steinbach misses.
I want a win, but against this Ravens team with a rookie qb, I want a big win. How nice would it be to quiet all the nay-sayers and the Bengal fans by throwing up a 21-0 creaming of a hated rival.
If Romeo wants to salvage anything at this point I hope he gets the team revved up.
The problem is at Linebacker.!
I have said it all year - Stop complaining about the youth in the secondary and start worrying about our Linebackers.
Kamerion "I have one move" Wimbley has digressed each year in the league and is pathetically predictable. The sad part is that he is our best LB.
I truely beleive the 3-4 is killing our defense. To fully take advantage of the the plethora of 3-4 schemes and blitz packages available the whole unit has to be stellar. We are far from stellar.
A standard 4-3 defense is what this unit needs.
Granted, Dallas is a 13-3 team with a great offense but that is no excuse. Until Romo busted up his chin I doubt he had even broken a sweat out there......
Overall grades:
Offense C
Defense C
Linebackers F
PS - Why are we kicking FG's when we are down by 3 scores in the 4th quarter?
Romeo was trying to hurry the game up and get out to the hot dog cart before it closed..
CRIBBS TO HOLD OUT??
Rumors are flying that Joshua wants a new deal....
With Bears return specialist, and possible No. 1 wideout, Devin Hester cashing in, another high-profile return specialist wants a new deal, too.
According to James Walker of ESPN.com, Josh Cribbs of the Browns is looking to restructure a six-year, $6 million deal that he signed before the 2007 season.
Keep an eye on this one. As we hear it, there are rumblings that Cribbs might be planning to boycott practice unless and until he gets what he wants. (He has been “injured” of late with a hamstring pull, so perhaps the boycotting already has begun.)
Per NFLPA records, Cribbs is due to earn a base salary of $620,000 in 2008, $620,000 in 2009, $635,000 in 2010, $650,000 in 2011, and $790,000 in 2012.
Cribbs joined the Browns as an undrafted free agent in 2006.
BROWNS Training Camp info
IT'S ALMOST HERE!!!!
Cleveland Browns training camp schedule coming today
Posted by Tony Grossi Plain Dealer Reporter July 09, 2008 12:23PM
Quick hitters over the middle ...
• The Browns will announce their 2008 training camp practice schedule later today. The first practice open to the public is Wednesday, July 23, at 3:30 p.m. An early draft of the tentative schedule called for 10 evening practices (5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.), plus an evening practice in Cleveland Browns Stadium for Family Night on Friday, Aug. 1. We will post the official practice schedule soon
Joe Thomas
Joe Thomas making the Pro Bowl was a pretty special feat, when thinking about all the years and years of failures we have witnessed on the Browns OL.
And to top it off, it was a rookie.
Has that ever been done before? A rookie LT making the ProBowl? I am sure it has but does anyone have these stats?
Each year we hear how special a player is IF they can play the LT spot well to protect the QB's blindspot. I am trying to prove a point to a BUCKING FANGLES fan who keeps telling me that Levi Jones is a better Tackle than Joe Thomas..............
GOD I HATE THE BENGALS.
Tony Grossi
Is it just me or is Tony Grossi a complete moron??
He is supposed to be our front line representative for information concerning the Cleveland Browns and more often than not I am disappointed when I read his drivle.
His most recent ASK TONY was quite comical has he ranked the Top 5 NFL fans. Included in his top 5 was Buffalo.........
Are you kidding me? I am not 100% sure but haven' t they gone almost a decade without a selling out a game??
Maybe when they are winning they are good but come on!!! The Buffalo fans are not loyal in the least. They remind me quite a bit of the Bungles fans!!!
Just thought I would vent a little and maybe get someone's advice as to where I can start getting my Browns information from now on.......
Baxter and Bentley
I think the Browns have been overly generous to thier two injured reserve captains over the past few years and so I am curious what cap hit the Browns would incur if these two were sent packing?
Even though Brodney Pool is terrible, there is no way Baxter unseats him at Safety.
And with the recent play of the OL along with some fabulous signings by Phil (Hadnot) our OL is set for 2008.
Losing Tucker until August is a blow but dare I say it - We finally have depth and good depth!!! within our OL !!!!
So why hang onto these guys?
