Let's update that oldie but goodie:

I'd like to see John Davidson on tv saying: Let's put the TRADE back in the Scottrade Center!

Wadda ya think??? Should I send this to the Blues and see if they like it? Who should I contact?

1. @ Colorado: First, the interference call on Oshie as two guys are just falling over each other to get the puck which gives the Avs the 3-2 lead on Yip's PP goal. Then, the Worst: Oshie's goal is not only disallowed, he's given a penalty... even though he never touched the puck, or even hooked the Avs player. The Avs defenseman swiped the puck into the net BEFORE any Blue touched the puck, signalling the dumbass ref ( Dennis LaRue) to stop play.   So, even if there WAS a legit penalty, the goal should have counted. How pathetic that LaRue doesn't know the rules and Dean Morton didn't bother to correct him. For all practical purposes, the game ended right there.

2. Chicago: Disallowed goal on a "lost sight of puck" call, that ONLY the refs lost sight of. Everybody in the building (including tv replays) saw that the puck was NEVER covered up and Boyes had every right to stuff it in. That would have cut the 'hawks lead in half and given the Blues some much needed momentum.   Steen's late goal would've gotten the Blues to OT. But, noooooooooo...instead, Blues fans were forced to endure the taunts and heckling by the visiting red-clad assholes from Chicago, especially the dolts in sec. 105 who tried to drunkenly do the power play dance.

3. San Jose: Blues down 2-1 midway through the second period. Phantom slash call on Boyes gives the Sharks a PP goal and the Blues could not recover, despite playing a great game, getting 37 shots on goal.

4. @ Chicago: Blues win a close one, but the called high-stick that was suddenly disallowed deprived them of a much needed PP.   The boys managed to win despite the lop-sided officiating.

5. Columbus: Roman Polak's shamefully weak "roughing" call while killing a penalty puts the Jackets up 2-1. The Blues were able to come back and tie the game, but lost in ot.

6. @ Vancouver: The Second Worst: Henrik Sedin gets his RIGHT hand tapped by Paulie Kariya near the end of the game. Sedin skates away from the puck and starts shaking his LEFT hand in great pain. Kariya gets a slashing penalty, not called by the ref right there in the defensive zone, but called by the ref out at center ice, and the Canuckleheads score on the ensuing PP, winning a squeaker, 2-3.

7. @ Ottawa: One of the Senators forwards steps on Oshie's stick midway through the third period and falls. Oshie is called for a tripping, Ottawa scores on the PP and wins another 2-3 squeaker.

8. Anaheim: With the score tied 2-2 late in the third period, Ryan Getzlaf deliberately goes knee-to-knee with Jackman, tripping him AND interfering with him in front of our own net, right in front of the ref. Of course, there is no call and the Ducks score the go-ahead goal while Barret was left sprawled out on the ice. They came back, but lost in a shootout.

No surprise the boys go 1-5-2 during these eight games.

A few suggestions to improve the game experience at Scottrade

Although some might say these cosmetic suggestions are ridiculous, I nevertheless propose the following:

Blues wear white at home for the rest of the year and unveil the new white 3rd sweater at the Columbus game next week. Encourage fans to wear the opposing team's jersey by offering a discount on tickets. Stop the Ameren UE power-play music (loss of revenue made up with new jersey sales)and instead just play "Pop Goes the Weasel" or the Benny Hill theme song instead. Change the hamburger give-away for five goals to a coupon for free Pepto Bismol or Alka Seltzer for every home loss.

What do these people all have in common?

Marc Bergevin, Rob Ramage, Neil Komadowski Jr, Rich (or was it Ron?) Sutter, Scott Mellanby, Ken Morrow, Tom Wheatley, Dave Eminian, Brendan Brooks, Nick Drazenovic, Tyson Strachan, and Jonas Junland...

Well, they all played a part in my road-trip to Peoria to see the Rivermen defeat the San Antonio Rampage Saturday night at Carver Arena. And what an excellent adventure it was! Finally, I was able to see a game in which a team wearing the Note (on the shoulders anyway) took an early lead and managed to win the game, 3-1. Barry Tallackson(9), Brett Sonne(4), and Yan Stastny (7) scored and Hannu Toivonen made 34 saves in leading the Rivermen to the victory. Toivonen was easily the star of the game, although Sonne, Tallackson, Lars Eller, and Julian Talbot played well, as did Jonas Junland and Tyson Strachan on defense. At times, Toivonen was spectacular, snagging pucks with a quick glove hand and playing his angles extremely well.

The real highlight, though, was being able to talk with scouts Morrow, Mellanby, Sutter, and Bergevin in between periods, as well as talking some hockey with Ramage, Komadowski, and Wheatley. Ken Morrow was surprised I actually recognized him; I told him I had followed his career starting at Bowling Green (I attended Miami U.) and then with the Islanders. I was able to reminisce about Fantasy Camp with Bergevin and Ramage; they both remembered some of the good times we shared on and off the ice in Chesterfield. And I could listen to Tom Wheatley talking hockey all night; what a fount of information about what's going on with the Blues from his perspective. I also took time to meet Dave Eminian, the premiere sportswriter for the Peoria Journal Star, who was very appreciative of being recognized...and complimented. And meeting Brendan Burke, the voice of the Rivermen on Hippie Radio, was also great fun, finally able to put a face to the voice I have heard doing the pbp on the internet feed.

On the way up the escalator to hear the post-game show, I asked the young man behind me (since he looked familar) who he was, and it turned out to be Blues prospect centre Nick Drazenovic, who I had previously met out at the Mills. He was the guest on the post-game show with Burke. And then who should turn up but Jonas Junland! He got word I was in town and graciously came up to visit and chat (and sign my Linkoping and Swedish national team Junland 44 sweaters, hehe). Jonas talked a bit about what it's like to play in Peoria and how he is working hard to earn a trip to St. Louis soon. I told him it's probably best if he can wait a month or so until things settle down here; he wanted to know what's going on with the Blues...and I told him the best I could. He just laughed and said he'd rather be a Blue no matter the problems! What a GREAT guy! And then Tyson Strachan walked in and sat with us to chat some. We told him surely he wanted to get home after such a grueling road trip to Texas (they didn't get back to Peoria until Saturday afternoon), yet he stayed to talk some hockey, saying it was great to meet fans from St. Louis. He, too, wanted to know what in the world was going on "down there"...and again, I did the best I could filling him in on the situation here.

What an excellent adventure it was! I would highly recommend visiting Carver Arena soon for any and all Blues fans looking to have some hockey fun (and wait til you see the prices for tickets, beer, and food! ). There isn't a bad seat at the rink there and the fans are quite vocal in their support of the team...and quite friendly, too.

Breaking News: Run on Depends at Walgreens

Harried clerks at local Walgreens are calling distributors to immediately truck in available supplies of Depends in the St. Louis metropolitan area tonight. The demand for this product mysteriously began around 9:30 p.m. One Walgreens clerk reportedly observed that several men came into her store, all wearing black t-shirts with a ugly looking hockey player wearing a helmet requesting all the Depends the store had. Another manager at the Delmar Walgreens noted that every single customer demanding the product was wearing a St. Louis Blues jersey or sweatshirt. All of these people were crying, angry, and upset about something that apparently upset their digestive system to the point that they all needed Depends. Several customers fought over the dwindling supply. Fortunately, area police were not needed to quell the upset customers. More to come...
