Yeah, that sucked last night. Luis Mendoza looked pretty good for a couple of innings, then things fell apart, apparently because of his inability to throw his breaking ball well. Bah.

Richard Durrett says the bigger concern right now is that the bats have gone silent since the break. Jeff Wilson suggests that getting Hank Blalock home in the second, after his leadoff triple, could have made the whole game different.

Brandon McCarthy and Gerald Laird each were apparently okay, health-wise, after their rehab outings last night in Oklahoma. Laird is supposed to be activated on Saturday, and Eric Hurley is supposed to be activated on Sunday. The DMN also says that the Dodgers and Mets each had a scout at the game last night.

Kevin Sherrington says the Rangers need better pitching to contend.

It's going to sound hollow to say I had nothing to do with it, but I didn't. She applied without telling me. New family rule: Mary Beth does not share conversations with Matt Hasselbeck or Mike Holmgren with her father.

Am I an inherently bad person if my first reaction to reading this was to go over to the "email Peter King" box and try to formulate a question to send him referencing Kathleen Decker, Stephon Marbury vis-a-vis Matt Hasselbeck, or "Truck Party"?

Isiah Thomas and Kathleen Decker did for pro sports interns what Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky did for White House interns...turn the job description into a punchline.

Feldman up, Teagarden down, Hurley still on the d.l.

Per the DMN blog, Scott Feldman has been recalled and will make tonight's start, while Taylor Teagarden has been sent down and will head to Beijing.

I'm glad to hear that Teagarden is getting to go play for the Olympic squad...while I'm sure he's disappointed not to stick on the major league roster, I think it is one of those experiences that is just too good to pass up, and I'd bet that, in the coming years, it will be one of those things he's glad worked out the way it did.

Also per the DMN blog, Eric Hurley has a sore arm, and expects to make his next start, but won't be activated for now.

Happy birthday, Mike Cubbage

Happy birthday to Mike Cubbage, who turns 58 today.

Mike Cubbage was a third baseman who played for the Rangers from 1974-76. Cubbage ended up getting dealt in the middle of the 1976 season, along with Roy Smalley, Bill Singer, and Roy Smalley Jim Gideon (and a lot of cash), to the Twins for Bert Blyleven and Danny Thompson.

He had a few nice years with the Twins, but fell off a cliff in his late 20s and was out of baseball by age 31.
