The title is a little misleading, as I found these recipes in med school. For everyone who is dying to live like a college student or those of us who are currently or have the budget of one, these are for you!

First up, RamShepherd's Pie

Ingredients: Two packets of beef ramen, 1 pound of ground beef, (these next ingredients are at your budgetary discretion) 1 can of corn (or fresh corn shaved from the cob again at your discretion), 1 can of peas, 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of sour cream, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon Sriacha.

Steps: Boil the ramen per directions on the packet, but DO NOT add the flavoring. Preheat oven to 400. Brown the beef thoroughly. Cook the corn and peas as directed. In separate container, add the sauces and mix thoroughly. If you are rich enough to afford corn and peas, mix them with the beef now. Add most of the sauce, saving a little for after the baking, to the beef and mix until satisfied. Lay the mixture in the bottom of a baking pan and flatten. Lay the cooked ramen on top and spread to cover the beef. Place pan in oven and watch closely until the top of the ramen starts to brown (It can brown quickly, but sometimes it takes awhile. Just keep a close eye on it). Take out of oven, finish with a little of the sauce that you saved and enjoy!

For my second and last recipe, Spicy Chicken and Ramen

Ingredients: 1 chicken breast, 1 packet ramen(you can expand as you may need to feed more than yourself), 1 tablespoon Sriacha, 1 teaspoon paprika, 1 tablespoon soy sauce, 1 tablespoon sour cream, red pepper flakes to taste.

Steps: Cook chicken thoroughly. My preferred method is to brown the chicken, dice it (since it is going to be diced anyway) and continue to cook on medium-high until done. Cook ramen per instructions on packet, and again DO NOT add flavoring. In a separate bowl, add the sauces (except the red pepper flakes), and mix thoroughly. Once the ramen is cooked and drained, add it to the chicken in a bowl. Pour the sauce into the chicken/noodle and mix thoroughly. Garnish with red pepper flakes. If you aren't satisfied with the spice, add jalapenos to the dish!

See? Eating like a college kid isn't SOOOOO bad!

Nittany Lions Beat Down Huskers

The Huskers were thoroughly defeated yesterday, as the returning national champion Nittany Lions marched into Lincoln and devastated the Huskers 31-6. The Lions wasted no time in jumping out to a 20-0 lead in the first five matches of the night which included a pin and a technical fall. The point deficit was impossible for the young Husker grapplers to overcome on Senior night at the Coliseum.

Some breakdowns:

The night started out rough for the 'Skers as Penn State's pair of 2nd ranked wrestlers scored a total of 9 points in the dual, first with a pin and then a minor decision over Nebraska's Tyler Kohen (174) and 7th ranked Josh Ihnen (184), respectively.

9th ranked Tucker Lane (HWT) was also defeated by minor decision Friday. Lane and Nakashima (197) were both defeated, wrestling back to back at the dual after being honored as the only seniors on this young Husker squad. After their respective matches, the Nittany Lions held a 15-0 lead for the meet. Nebraska's Shawn Nagel (125) added to the streak of PSU wins by means of technical fall, adding their point total to 20 before the 'Skers were able to get on the board.

Ridge Kylie (133) and 5th ranked Jake Sueflohn (141) both beat their opponents by minor decision to score Nebraska's only dual points of the night.

Penn State's 1st ranked (149) wrestler defeated Skylar Galloway by major decision, while their 6th ranked (157) wrestler defeated 7th ranked James Green in a minor decision.

The last match of the night summed up the night well as 6th ranked Robert Kokesh (165) was defeated by the second 1st ranked PSU grappler. The major decision defeated brought the night's score total to PSU 31 and UNL 6.

The Huskers fall to 14-2 overall and 5-2 in the B1G while PSU climbs to 10-1 overall with a 6-1 B1G record. Nebraska's final meet of the year is Sunday as they travel to Minnesota to take on the 4th ranked Golden Gophers.

After analyzing this meet, I believe that this was a battle of veteran vs. raw talent much akin to the Hawkeye meet several weeks ago. With such a young squad, replacing only two seniors, and wrestling in the toughest conference, I think Nebraska will be not only competing better with these teams in the coming years, but possibly beating them as well. GBR!

Some breakdowns:

Tucker Lane (HWT) defeated his fourth nationally ranked opponent in a minor victory of 3-1, improving his record to 17-2 for the season, with 11 wins in a row.

Freshman James Green (157) scored major points early for what was heading for a major decision, but gave some ground on a takedown late in his match to bring the victory to a minor decision. James has defeated 3 ranked opponents and is currently on a 9 win streak.

Josh Ihnen (184) was the last Husker to achieve a victory that night as he won by minor decision late in the dual to put the Husker point total to 9.

Unfortunately, Iowa took the 'Skers to the cleaners in this dual. With one pin and several minor decisions, the Hawks propelled themselves to 24 points and a large victory that night. I believe the veteran squad of Iowa was too much for the young Husker squad to handle in several matches. The one match I was surprised to see turn out the way it did was Robert Kokesh (165). He was ranked 3rd in the nation at his weight bracket and fell 7-3 to ninth ranked Mike Evans. This was his first dual match loss and only his third total loss for the season. Watching the matches take place, though, I couldn't help but notice the potential inside our young grapplers. I believe that in the coming years, we might be able to challenge the Hawks better in the future.

Huskers Vs. Indiana

After falling behind 14-3 early after only 4 matches on January 20th, the Huskers stormed back to beat the Hoosiers 24-17 and raise their record to 11-1 and 2-1 in B1G play. Indiana fell to 6-5 overall and 0-5 in the conference.

Some more breakdowns:

In the first four matches, there was a pin and a technical fall against the Huskers at the 141 and 149 weight bracket. After that, the Huskers hit back and scored two major decisions at the 157 and 165 weight brackets, bringing the dual score closer, at 11-14 still in favor of the Hoosiers. at the 184 weight bracket, Josh Ihnen scored a pin to propel Nebraska to a 20-14 lead, their first lead of the dual. The 197 match gave Nebraska 3 more points, while the HWT bought gave the Hoosiers 3 more points and caused the end of the 11 win streak of Tucker Lane.

This could have been a devastating upset for Nebraska. While Indiana isn’t the powerhouse that Iowa is, they do have some solid talent that definitely gave the ‘Skers some fits at some weight classes. In the end, they were able to pull away and land another W.

Huskers Vs. Purdue

There wasn’t much of note during this 24-9 Nebraska victory over Purdue. Of the 24 points amassed, there were three major decisions, and the Huskers only let three matches gather points for Purdue.

The only outstanding statistic for this dual is that Nebraska still has a perfect road record. Their record after this meet is 12-1 and 3-1 in the B1G

Huskers Vs. Michigan State

This dual started off rocky, with the Spartans starting early with a technical fall at the 125 pound weight class and jumping ahead 5 points out of the gate. Nebraska won the next two matches at 133 by Ridge Kiley and 5th ranked Jake Sueflohn at the 141 pound weight class. Jake scored a major decision in his match. Dan Osterman of Michigan State beat Brandon Wilbourn in a minor decision in the last Spartan victory of the night. Nebraska then dominated the remaining six matches to come out on top 27-8. Nebraska still is undefeated on the road after this match, with their record climbing to 13-1 and 4-1 in the B1G.

Huskers Vs. Wisconsin

Finally the Cornhuskers can say they beat those pesky Badgers at something this year. With a shutout victory, The ‘Skers handedly defeated Wisconsin. With four major decision victories, coming at the 125, 133, 165, and 184 weight class, and one technical fall coming at the 141 weight class, the Cornhuskers hit the Badgers hard on January 29th.

Some breakdowns:

9th ranked Tucker Lane (HWT) won his 20th match of the season at a 5-0 minor decision.

19th ranked Ridge Kiley (133) claimed his third major decision of the year with a 12-0 victory.

5th ranked Jake Sueflohn (141) won by technical fall in the final seconds as he gained nearfall points as time expired to win 17-2.

8th ranked James Green (157) won by minor decision 8-5.

6th ranked Robert Kokesh (165) wrestled in the only match featuring two nationally ranked grapplers. The first round was completely scoreless, and the start of the second round allowed Kokesh’s opponent an escape. Interesting fact: this was the Badger’s only lead of any match of the night. Trailing 3-2 going into the third round, Kokesh exploded to win 13-4.

All in all, a very satisfying victory for the Huskers after some forgettable losses in some other sports. (Side note: Can these guys be our real rivals?)

PREVIEW! Friday 2/3 Huskers Vs. Penn State

The defending national champion Nittany Lions come to Lincoln on Friday the 3rd. It is senior night and is a Pepsi "Pack the House" night. I’m not entirely sure what that is, but if anyone is in Lincoln and wants to see the ‘Skers battle some quality B1G talent, stop on in. Admission is only $1 and there is $1 drinks. GO BIG RED!

With their first B1G conference win, they are also one step away from tying the longest winning streak in school history, but the top ranked Iowa Hawkeyes are the team to beat as they visit Lincoln next Friday.

Senior Tucker Lane (HWT) was the first win of the night as he joined the 100 win club. He won by decision (5-1). An emotional win in more than one way, Lane dedicated it as a birthday gift to his father (full story here). After Lane's match, the Huskers fell behind 7-3, but came back to finish with a final match score of 18-16. One of those victories came from Jake Sueflohn (141), a freshman who beat his fifth ranked opponent tonight with a 10-2 major decision. Nebraska's young talent combined with their seasoned starters allowed this historic evening to occur(Huskers.com full story).

The Huskers now must prepare for top ranked Iowa next Friday... the 13th (Pretty epic to say the least). With such young talent, it will be interesting to see how the 'Skers match up against the wrestling dynasty at Iowa.

General Info:

Tonight in the Coliseum at 7pm, the 12th ranked Cornhuskers (9-0) dual the 6th ranked Buckeyes (7-0, 1-0) from Ohio State. The big story tonight is that the Huskers are looking to go 10-0 for the first time in school history, and would be one win away from tying the longest win streak in school history. That kind of feat, specifically in the dominant B1G conference, will be no easy feat. This is the Huskers' first B1G duel and the 2nd B1G duel for the Buckeyes. Matches will be broadcast on BTN.com (subscription needed) or you can follow live stats with www.TrackWrestling.com. Admission is $10 and if you come early, you can see some high school talent at 5pm. Husker wrestling has six top 25 ranked wrestlers at their weight division, with 5 of them in the top 10. After tonight, the Huskers take on 1st ranked Iowa, which will be aired (with tape delay) at 9pm on BTN on January 13th. Wrestlers to watch after the jump.

General Info:

After tonight, the Huskers take on 1st ranked Iowa, which will be aired (with tape delay) at 9pm on BTN on January 13th. Wrestlers to watch after the jump.

Wrestlers To Watch: (Weight Bracket in parentheses)

Tucker Lane(HWT): Looking for 100th career win as a Cornhusker. He would be the 20th wrestler to accomplish this feat.

Robert Kokesh(165): Currently 17-2 record and 9-0 in duals. He is a redshirt freshman. Kokesh is also the first Husker to make B1G honors this season (Wrestler of the Week)

Jake Sueflohn (141) and James Green (157): Both true freshman are ranked in the top 10 and are very entertaining to watch.

Coaching Honors:

Head coach Mark Manning surpassed the 150 win mark earlier this season, with his current record at Nebraska sitting at 158-61-3. He is averaging 13 duals a season during his tenure with the Huskers, and earlier in the season has earned the honor of FILA Freestyle Coach of the Year. Coach Manning is a very prolific coach. We should be honored to have him.

The Opposition:

From Huskers.com: Ohio State will feature one of the youngest and most talented lineups in the country, with nine of their ten projected starters being either sophomores of freshmen. The Buckeye's own a 7-0 dual record and have defeated three ranked opponents in No. 15 Virginia Tech, No. 9 Pittsburgh and No. 20 Kent State. The Buckeye's also participated in the Wrestle for a Cure Duals, where they beat Utah Valley, Old Dominion and North Carolina.

Obviously tOSU is very good. It will be a tough dual, but also a great warm up for the Hawkeyes next week.

Synopsis:

This is my first fanpost, but I am trying to get the word out about the Huskers wrestling program. Tonight is a very good match set with a lot of young and raw talent on both sides of the mat. I strongly encourage anyone who wants to support the program to go tonight and Monday against our rival, the Hawkeyes. If anyone wants more reason to go, read this article and watch the video. Just one more reason to believe in The B1G Red. GBR!
