Student in law school. Native Arkansan, but I left a part of my heart in DFW when I lived there. I love the Cowboys, I love the Razorbacks, and I hate Philadelphia. What more is there to say?

Dr. Strangefan or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Sensibility

There’s been a lot of negativity around here lately, and it’s understandable why that’s the case. Certainly, there are going to be naysayers everywhere you go—whether your team finishes 16-0 or...

Jerry Jones apparently thinks what the Cowboys are going through is normal

+

Hopefully this isn't writing on the wall: that we're stuck with Garrett's mediocrity for one or two more years.

Daniel Jeremiah's Ask 5--Deepest position in 2014 Draft

1

If you haven't kept up with Jeremiah's stuff or his "Ask 5" articles, you need to start. Jeremiah asks 5 anonymous NFL execs what they think is the deepest position in the NFL draft. Bodes well for those who want to bolster the offensive line... not so well for those who hope to restock the defensive line next year.

JJ Wilcox quickly becoming one of my favorite Cowboys

+

I loved this guy's attitude from day 1, and I love that he's backing it up with solid play on the practice field. I think he's my favorite pick from this crop of rookies.

Morris Claiborne heads list of Defensive Backs poised to break out in 2013

+

Pretty cool write-up by Bucky Brooks on why he thinks Mo will have a breakout campaign this year.

Cowboys to sign Eric Winston?

2

This would be a really good signing for the Boys, as Eric Winston has graded out pretty well over the past 4 years. I don't see them releasing Doug Free any time soon, but it does mean we can have some solid tackle play!

Dez Bryant (and another Cowboy!) makes NFL.com's all-under-25 team

7

Dez Bryant and Tyron Smith make NFL.com's under-25 team. Front office has made some pretty good selections over the past several years.

According to Pete Roussel, Dooley to the Cowboys is finally complete

+

There was a delay after the initial reports several weeks ago that Derek Dooley had been hired by the Cowboys to coach wide receivers. Sources tell Pete Roussel that the hire will be officially announced today.

NFL Salary Caps for each NFL Team

3

Pretty interesting grid. If this is accurate, it looks like the Cowboys are in pretty decent shape--even with the illegal cap penalty being imposed on us.

Shadenfreude at it's finest

1

If the Eagles have their hearts set on a college coach, I'm sure Houston Nutt wouldn't turn them down.

Montrae Holland wishes he was a Cowboy--and so do we

11

@MontraeHolland: Wish I could help. I've had other opportunities but I'm hoping to finish career as Cowboy. I have a lot of respect for JJ and that uniform.

Footballogy: building through the draft and free agency

2

An interesting module from NFL.com addressing an issue we've been discussing here on BtB for several years now. I present it to you with no further comments or analysis: the statistics are interesting and somewhat varied. Make of it what you will.

Jamize Olawale?

Is there a place for this guy on the final 53-man roster? I sure hope so. I think he's currently the third best half-back on this roster, and he'd make an excellent goal-line and short-yardage...

NFL.com Article--Stephen Jones running the show?

Pretty good read from NFL.com here on a subject we've been discussing for around a year now. Interesting to see an outsider's perspective on the situation.

Tony Romo ranked #91 in NFLN's Top 100 Countdown

Some of these NFL players should be super-grateful they get paid to play in the NFL, because their voting is making it pretty obvious that their intelligence couldn't land a number of them a job...

"Cowboys in Denial of How Messed Up They Are"

4

I was really worried that we had a problem here, but then I saw that it was Jennifer Floyd Engel who wrote the article. But she actually does bring up a FEW interesting points. Although I can say with full confidence that neither myself nor any of my college friends have ever referred to something as "the real." "Real talk," maybe, but definitely not the former. My God, she already sounds like one of those trying-too-hard-to-be-hip grandmothers.

Dallas Cowboy Pro Bowl snubs

31

Only two Cowboys made the Pro Bowl this year--DeMarcus Ware and Jason Ratliff. There must have been some sort of mathematical error in the voting, because Jason Witten was left off of this years Pro-Bowl roster. Believe it or not, this is actually the most understandable snub, as Graham had a great year, and Gonzalez's year was comparable to Witten's. Tony Romo got snubbed over Eli Manning. Manning, he of the 90.3 rating and 26:16 TD:INT ratio got the nod over same-record Tony Romo, who had a 102.2 passer rating and a 29:9 TD:INT ratio. I know Eli is a Manning, and therefore a media darling, so of course every 4th quarter pass he's made will be viewed through rose-colored lenses, but the fact is that Romo has been just as good in the 4th quarter this season. Tyron Smith anybody? Apparently not. The three guys listed are all pretty deserving, but you'd think a Cowboy could catch a break somewhere. Same goes for Sean Lee. The impact of Patrick Willis and Brian Urlacher is undeniable, but Sean Lee has been all world this year as well--even with the club on his wrist. Dan Bailey should get the nod over Akers, but since San Francisco can't actually score touchdowns, Akers gets the stats and the Pro Bowl nod instead. Just my thoughts. Lots of deserving players made the Pro Bowl this year, but only two Cowboys did. There are a few obvious instances where Cowboys should have gotten the nod, and too many instances where it was simply a toss-up, and yet we didn't win any of those either.

Jason Garrett draws line for hazing

2

" Garrett, who is entering his first full season as a head coach, has made it clear to his team that initiation rites that demean rookies aren't allowed." Honestly, this is something I'm really excited about. I don't think hazing is a good way to build unity or camaraderie at all. Jack Del Rio made the same decision this offseason. The article doesn't state it, but I think it's worth noting that Bill Walsh, Coach K, Bill Belichick, and Nick Saban all have/had the same policy.
