Yankees fans want Kinsler in All Star Game

Ian Kinsler last night was a one-man wrecking crew at the top of the Rangers’ lineup. He went two for three with two walks, stole three bases and scored the game-winning run in the top of the 9th. For his efforts, Yankee fans and the YES Network awarded him with the Chevy Player of the Game. Let’s see if we can do better.

On the season, Kinsler is having quite a year in his third year with the Rangers. He’s hitting .324/.380/.536 with 187 total bases, 13 HR, 50 RBI and 23 stolen bases. He’s been caught on the base paths just once. By any stretch, those numbers make him the obvious choice for the All Star Game.

Except that he plays in Texas, and really, who follows the Rangers? Instead, this guy with his .303/.348/.439 line is leading in the latest AL balloting results. While honestly Dustin Pedroia isn’t a bad choice for second base, he’s not the best choice, and he’s not the guy Yankee fans want to see manning second base during the All Star Game in the Bronx in two weeks.

So with just 14 hours left in the voting, let’s see what we can do. Let’s get Pedroia out, and Kinsler in. In the grand style of Chicago politics, everyone is allowed to vote up to 25 times (per e-mail address) on MLB.com. If, optimistically, just half of the visitors to RAB voted for Ian Kinsler 25 times today, we could send nearly 100,000 votes his way. Stranger things have happened.

Head on over to the MLB.com All Star Ballot, and vote Kinsler. Otherwise, don’t complain when widdle Dusty is starting at second base in two weeks.

Barnes' agent, Aaron Goodwin, said Monday night that he was eager to initiate contact with the Mavericks.

"I think Matt is a good fit for them, but he's a good fit for a lot of teams," Goodwin said. "They are definitely on our list."

-----------------------------

Matt Barnes, a guy I would have loved on our roster vs. Miami or vs. Golden State, not sure how much he would help this upcoming year's squad but still a good, hard-nosed defender I would want to bring in here...I'd rather have Diop though, ideally both though. Then we can forget about Devean George.

--------------------------------------

Other NBA News

1. Gilbert Arenas !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Both the Washington Wizards and Golden State Warriors have offered Gilbert Arenas max deals, according to a source close to the three-time All-Star point guard."

"Also, I heard from a very reliable source that the Sacramento Kings contacted Arenas and said they are willing to do "whatever it takes" to land his services even if they have to "trade their entire team." -- The Washington Post"

2) Ron Artest

"Volatile forward Ron Artest decided against opting out of his contract and will remain with the Sacramento Kings for 2008-09, unless he is traded, according to a report on ESPN."

3) Josh Smith

"The Hawks plan to match any offers Josh Smith and Josh Childress receive this month, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Smith and Childress are restricted free agents, but the team claims that they want to retain both players."

4) Brent Barry

"The Houston Rockets immediately called Brent Barry as teams were able to start talking to free agents on Tuesday, the Houston Chronicle is reporting"

5) James Posey

"After a strong Finals performance, James Posey has chosen to become a free agent rather than picking up his player option with the Celtics, the Boston Herald are reporting.

Posey is reportedly looking for a mid-level deal that starts at approximately $5.8 million and carries over 4-5 years."

6. Beno Udrih

"Numerous sources close to the team said the Kings were prepared to offer Beno Udrih their full midlevel exception (approximately $6 million) in a five-year deal"

According to Bill Plunkett of the L.A. Daily News, Angels GM Tony Reagins has no intention of breaking from Bill Stoneman's model. Reagins does not intend to trade young players in a midseason blockbuster. Plunkett makes a good point in that the Halos would be worse off if they'd pulled the trigger on the rumored Miguel Cabrera deal.

The Angels expect to fix their offensive woes with in-house options. The team ranks 12th of 14 in the league in OBP and 9th in SLG. Garret Anderson, Gary Matthews Jr., Erick Aybar, and Jeff Mathis has been easy outs this year. It might make sense to start working in Juan Rivera and Reggie Willits regularly.
