[The coaches failed to make] our points more compelling than their fat little girlfriends. Now their fat little girlfriends have some obvious advantages. For one thing, their fat little girlfriends are telling them what they want to hear, which is 'how great you are' and 'how easy its going to be' and we had a bunch of people who wanted to win the football game but nobody wanted to play the football game..........I don't know if I will be successful this week or not but I am going to try and there will be some people inconvenienced and if it happens to be their fat little girlfriends too bad.

Lone Star Ball Rangers make push for Doc man.

Per the Heyman guy

The Rangers were requested to send four of their top young players (the Rangers have many), and countered with a proposal that included two of those players, according to league sources

Hmm. What to make of this... No clue. Talk amongst yourselves.

Good night.

Oooooh, I am staying at a Holiday Inn Express right now, wonder if I'll feel good in the morning.  Maybe. On the other hand maybe not. What a conundrum. 75 yet? Geez.

Mavs Moneyball I want Artest.

Too long between playoff games. Unfortunate story about Dirk. Nothing to do on a Thursday night.  How about some off the wall ideas?

Ron Artest. Bring him on board. Trade Howard and Terry for Bosh and Kapono. Role with Dirk/Bosh/Artest as your core.

The Bosh trade might be a pipe dream. My thinking is that Toronto knows he's leaving in 2010 why not try to get something for him? Dallas would obviously lock him up and they were already trying to land someone from the 2010 class, so there you go.

I'm serious about Artest. The only problem I see is how.... He's probably going to want some security and more than the MLE. But it would definitely shake things up.

Thoughts?

Lone Star Ball Tex to the Yanks.

Nice. Time for him to share a sauna with A-rod.  Where are the Yanks getting this money? Apparently the economy isn't hurting Hank. Wow. I hope for failure.  Maybe now the Sox get Salty for a little more offense. Huh? Huh? Ok maybe not.  Also Reagins said the Manny isn't going to the Angels. Wonder what they will do.... West looks like it's up for grabs now.

Lone Star Ball OT: Greatest quote on LSB

Let's face it, nothing is happening today or this week concerning the Rangers. So I decided to put this poll up to pass some time. What is the greatest quote on LSB? Our two nominees are our own Baseball Jesus with-

Lone Star Ball Yay Free Agency!

Free agency just started. Happy Happy Joy Joy! Obviously the big boys areTex/Sabathia/Burnett/Dunn/Manny etc. Where will they go? Where will  K-douche in go? Everybody knows about them but the real story line is where Ramon Vazquez lands. Oh how i'll miss the molester stache. So the question is do you think the Rangers will sign anyone? Rumors have them interested in Fuentes,Sheets, etc. Will they resign Bradley? Oh happy day!

Lone Star Ball OT: Rangers vs Indians

Now I know it's only Ocotober 8th but it's never too early to talk about the Rangers home opener. Simple question: Will the Rangers win?

Now time for some hot sports opinions: The Phillies will win it all.

The Rangers will trade for Buchholz.

The Ravens will win the AFC.

The Stars will win the Stanley cup.

The Cowboys will lose in the 1st round again.

The Mavs will make it to the West finals.

The Ukraine will,  Oh wait.... Ukraine will..... Ah, who the hell cares?

That should meet the 75 word limit.

Lone Star Ball OT: Yost out in Brewer land

The Milwaukee Brewers have fired manager Ned Yost in the midst of a late-season slump that has jeopardized the team's chances of making the playoffs for the first time since 1982.

Third-base coach Dale Sveum will become interim manager for the remainder of the season.

The Brewers have lost seven of their last 10, and share the NL wild-card lead with Philadelphia.

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/baseball/2010ap_bbn_brewers_yost_fired.html

I know Yost is a terrible manager, but this is very weird this late in the season.  I guess the fear was that the Brewers would go down Metsville and tank in September and miss the playoffs yet again. It'll be interesting to see if this actually gives them a spark and rights the ship so to speak. Very odd.

Lone Star Ball Red Sox want a Ranger Catcher

The Sox are intrigued by Texas backstop Jarrod Saltalamacchia, the 23-year-old switch-hitter who has been shut down with a sprained elbow but will play in the Dominican this winter. The Sox would have to trade a top pitching prospect to land him.

Reviews of his catching prowess are mixed, but one scout thinks Saltalamacchia looks very much like Varitek did at a similar age. Varitek wasn't always the accomplished defensive catcher he is now. "If [Saltalamacchia] catches every day, he's going to be fine," said an American League scout. "He's got a good arm. He's had his moments when he gets crossed up, but experience will help rectify that."

http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/articles/2008/09/14/just_how_valuable_is_he/?page=3

With prior reports having them interested in Teagarden and Varitek being a shell of his former self, I think it is inevitable this winter that we hook up with them on a trade. And it's good to know that the Sox know that they would "have to trade a top pitching prospect to land him." Now obviously the big fish would be Buchholz. But let's assume he's off the table. 1. Would you do Bowden for Teagarden or Salty straight up? 2. Would you do Masterson for Teagarden or Salty straight up?

For me. 1. Do it in a heart beat.

               2. No. Masterson is a dominant set up guy right now for the Sox, but will that translate to success as a starter at the Major league level? Who knows. Too risky a proposition for me to give up a starting catcher for. Now if they wanna do Bard or Masterson plus a lesser guy.... say Bryan Price or Kris Johnson?  I might just do that....

Lone Star Ball OT: Little Ike.

So this is supposed to impact AJM and co in Houston and might impact the metroplex?

Prediction: We get an inch or two max in Dallas and Ft. Worth and the same goes for Houston. Meteorologists don't know jack. I just find it funny that the Astros are fighting their way into the playoff picture and a Hurricane is approaching Houston. God must be a Ranger fan. EOM. 211330w_sm_medium

Lone Star Ball Palin Speech Gameday thread.

Posts on the last one are approaching 700 and with the VP speech I can see it doubling so I decided to make a new thread. While I don't engage in any talk in these threads I genuinely enjoy seeing people duke it out and have legitimate arguments. Also to the non political savvy like myself, once you sift through the name calling you learn some stuff...

Quotes via Dstar:

Here’s a quote from the pre-released excerpts: "I’m not a member of the permanent political establishment. And I’ve learned quickly, these past few days, that if you’re not a member in good standing of the Washington elite, then some in the media consider a candidate unqualified for that reason alone. But here’s a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: I’m not going to Washington to seek their good opinion – I’m going to Washington to serve the people of this country. …"

ZING!

here’s a better one: "I had the privilege of living most of my life in a small town. I was just your average hockey mom, and signed up for the PTA because I wanted to make my kids’ public education better. When I ran for city council, I didn’t need focus groups and voter profiles because I knew those voters, and knew their families, too. Before I became governor of the great state of Alaska, I was mayor of my hometown. And since our opponents in this presidential election seem to look down on that experience, let me explain to them what the job involves. I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a ‘community organizer,’ except that you have actual responsibilities. …"

ZING 2!!!

Lone Star Ball Trade talk

http://www.kansascity.com/sports/royals/story/727881.html

The Rangers have asked about pitcher Zack Greinke and appear willing to part with multiple prospects in return.

Yeah, I've been up since 6:00 AM awaiting some juicy rumors and this is the closest thing I can find relating to the Rangers... So if you want to vent about the lack of activity so far go ahead......  or talk about JD obviously reading LSB by stealing  the Grienke idea go ahead...

Lone Star Ball Mike Gonzalez

http://www.baseballprospectus.com/unfiltered/?p=955

The Rangers were clear winners at last year’s deadline, already seeing a payoff from last year’s deals. They might try again, making smaller deals focused on 2009. They might again have a match with the Braves, dealing one of their extra OF bats — Frank Catalanotto, Marlon Byrd, or even Milton Bradley — for Mike Gonzalez. There hasn’t been much interest in Hank Blalock, but he’s another name that could clear waivers.

Not a rental.... still has one more year on his deal, could probably step right in for Eddie when he's traded, has a 2.84 era and a dazzling .63 whip.  Has closed before, just in case the CJ experiment goes awry....  Hell, trade Byrd and Cat for him.

It was good. Hell of a joker........ But I was expecting to be blown away because of all the hype and I left wanting something more. Also when are they gonna find a good Rachel? Holmes and Gyllenhaal were AWFUL.

Lone Star Ball OT: Diop back... Yeah! For full MLE. NOOOOOOOOOO!

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3471169

Suck it, Jayslick. If you reply it means you clicked on it and if you hate the NBA don't click on the Diary about the NBA. Capiche?

This is a terrible move, especially when Maggette could've been had for that... But I don't think the Mavs are that stupid, trade brewing, has to be...

Sources told ESPN.com that Diop, traded by the Mavericks to New Jersey in February as part of the Jason Kidd deal, will receive the Mavericks' full mid-level exception in a five-year deal starting at nearly $6 million.

Lone Star Ball Blalock return delayed.........AGAIN

Are you f***in kidding me?

I don't even really care anymore. He was an average player at best and with Davis et al in the wings we need to trade him for anything at this point. I like the guy but damn. Is it too much to ask him to stay on the field and not get CTS by giving himself a stranger? Apparently so.

http://rangersblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2008/06/blalock-and-laird-updates.html

Hank Blalock will not play tonight for Triple-A Oklahoma tonight. He jammed his right hand diving for a ball Sunday night, but it is not believed to have damaged anything that was fixed in his surgery last month. He may play on Tuesday, but if so, it's going to be for Oklahoma. He will not be activated.

Richard Todd Davis, CEO of LifeLock Inc., was so confident in his company's ability to protect his identity that he publicly revealed his Social Security number: 457-55-5462.

But according to a new class-action lawsuit filed last week in Jackson County, LifeLock's identity theft protection services were so inept that Davis' personal information was stolen repeatedly.

"While LifeLock has only publicly acknowledged that Davis' identity was compromised on one occasion, there are more than 20 driver's licenses that have been fraudulently obtained [using his personal information]," the suit states.

"Furthermore, a simple background check performed using Davis' Social Security number reveals that his entire personal profile has been compromised to the extent that the birth date associated with his Social Security number is Nov. 2, 1940, which would [inaccurately] make Davis 67 years old."

The lawsuit maintains that LifeLock, which claims on its Web site to be "the industry leader in the rapidly growing field of Identity Theft Protection," made false and misleading claims in its multimillion-dollar ad campaign about the level of protection it provides.

"Through its advertisements, LifeLock misrepresents and assures consumers that it can protect against all types of fraud including, without limitation, computer hacking, password theft and other noncredit-related theft," the suit reads.

But LifeLock doesn't protect against many forms of identity theft, according to the lawsuit.

And then this:
"Upon information and belief, Maynard developed the idea for LifeLock while sitting in a jail cell after having been arrested for failure to repay a $16,000 casino marker taken out at the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas," the suit states.

Maynard was sanctioned by the Federal Trade Commission because of misleading infomercials for National Credit Foundation, a separate credit-improvement company, according to the suit.

The suit also maintains that Maynard stole his father's identity by using his information to get an American Express card, which he used to rack up more than $100,000 of debt.

"I'm confident right now," Volquez said. "I don't think about if I pitch bad, will I get sent down? I don't have any pressure right now."

"I kept going back and forth," Volquez said. "You do something good, like I did in Triple-A, you get to the big leagues. The next year at Spring Training, they sent me all the way back to [Class] A ball. There was no reason."

Lone Star Ball DFW sports suck.

That is all. Mavs and Rangers and Cowboys. Embarrassing. Choke city? I don't know frankly I just don't think the teams are that good.

How to get past the 75 word limit? This is the story bout Rob and Cory and their rise to the top before they get dropped and it’s such a sad shame they couldn’t finish the game they couldn’t finish the tale that they’ve  dreamed and kicked around But this is real life dreams killed with a knife don’t tell this to your brother ya sister ya wife.......

Oh, we still got the Stars! Yeah!

Lone Star Ball OT: Fav 8:40 bit

Noticed that there many Ticket listeners and decided to start this diary. Personally I love Chris Chris. Greatness IMO. Other great ones: Nolan, Parcells,Gascap Louie, Tiger.... My least favorite bit is any deep throat informant, just a beating.

OT2: Dallas Stars collapsed. Sad. They outplayed the Wings but started sloppy in the 3rd and lost. F Detroit.

Deion is playing in the celeb game and with Alge Crumpler being cut today I couldn't help but remember this quote, "OH MY GOD!, Alge Crumpler" Good Stuff.

PS: I know this is a baseball blog and with ST starting, LSB might not give a damn, but I needed a break, Their is only so much Laird talk/Galloway hate a man can take!

Lone Star Ball OT: Knight resigns.

First time, long time. You either love him or hate him, there is NO middle ground. As a Tech alum, this is very sad to me. Knight brought this aura with him to Tech and while he didn't get us far in the tournament each year, (Sweet Sixteen being the farthest, I think.) You could go to the game and witness greatness. Knight will forever be Indiana; and that chair throwing incident will forever tarnish his legacy. However, as a Tech alum, I'd like to thank him for making us part of history.

Now, what the hell happened? I don't think he got tired and decided to quit, like some reports say. Maybe he got pissed that the ladies kept outdrawing the men? Maybe he bet the house on Belichick? Something happened, hopefully it will come out soon.
