Talking Chop Braves on the Radio!!

I am the biggest Braves fan in New York City and I cant get enough of my team. I just bought an iPhone the other day and realized that I can upload a radio station called "The Zone" which is suppose to be the best sports station down in the ATL. I've listened to this station a few times and all they seem to blab about is college football and basketball and the Falcons....Whats up with that man? Can you recommand me a station that talks Braves? Thanks

Talking Chop Damon Remains Unlikely For Yankees

I got this article from mlbtraderumors.com. Buster Olney of ESPN and Joel Sherman of the New York Post find a Johnny Damon-Yankees reunion unlikely. Both writers say Damon would have to greatly reduce his salary demands. According to Sherman, the Yankees are telling agents they have only $2MM to spend. Both writers also agree that Brian Cashman would have to lobby Hal Steinbrenner to expand the budget to accomodate Damon. Sherman says a July trade for Mike Cameron was scrapped because Hal would not approve a $5.5MM increase. In the likely event the Yanks move on from Damon, Sherman ranks the team's targets: Xavier Nady, Reed Johnson, Rocco Baldelli, Jerry Hairston Jr., and Marcus Thames. I think now is the time for the braves to go in and snatch Damon.

Talking Chop Uggla for Vazquez?

ESPN Reports: "The Atlanta Braves and Florida Marlins may match up on a trade involving a couple of valuable pieces". This is an insiders issue in which I refuse to pay for. Yes, i know it's less then $3 a month but who pays for baseball news in the era of internet? Not Me. I dont know much about the deal but this is what is out there. Hudson re-signs so let the rumors begin!

Talking Chop I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH..................

Please correct me if I am wrong. Are the Braves 2 games back of the wild card with 6 games to play? Are the Braves playing there best baseball this season? If you answered yes to all of my questions then then you might be asking yourself, what's the problem Al? Support. Last night I am watching the game and it's as empty as a Expos game. It almost seems like it was a little league game being played in another planet. My question is, "Where are the Fans". I live in NY and I dont know much about how the Braves organization is promoting the team but it seems like no one cares. This season there were more Brave fans in Citifield then Met fans. I know the fans are out there but what gives? Is it hard to get to Turner Field? Are the tickets expensive? There is no excuse why Turner Field isn't rocking. Where are the waving towels? Where's the Tomahawk? Where's the boos, the cheers, the excitment. I am tired of Yankee and Met fans telling me that Brave fans are like zombies. You look at the Rockies and it's packed. No empty seats, the place looks like it's about to fall apart. We need that atmosphere for these last 6 games of the season. Believe it or not players feed off of that excitement and tend to play harder. Even Derek Jeter admits that having a packed house every night does help players's play and keeps them more focused and relaxed.

Talking Chop Braves placed OF Nate McLouth on the 15 - day DL due to sore left hamstring; recalled OF Reid Gorecki

Oh boy. The Braves placed Nate on the DL which doesn't come to as a surprise to me. He missed a few games then tried to play through the Phillies series and was taken out of the game becuase of the injury. I am not to worried because Nate, as we all saw, was struggling st the plate. I am a little worried about his replacement in the lineup; Ryan Chruch. He's in a RISP slump. He struck out on Saturday with runners on and poped up with the bases loaded last night. He needs to hit in those situations as some of our regualars are out (Prado) or struggling (Escobar, CJ, GA and Adam).

Talking Chop Indians expected to trade Victor Martinez

Now that the Indians have traded Cliff Lee, rival executives fully expect Cleveland to deal All-Star catcher Victor Martinez in the 48 hours before the trade deadline. Victor is only making $4.5million this year and is due to make $7million next year(option) Now imagine Victor, switching hitting 1st base hitting between CJ and Big Mac McCann. That would take alot of pressure off those two. Martinez, 30, is hitting .283 this season, with 15 homers and 67 RBIs, with an on-base percentage of .367. Martinez represented the Indians at the All-Star Game in St. Louis earlier this month. If the Indians didnt get much for Cliff Lee, why should the Braves give up alot. I say throw in Kotchman, Jo Jo Reyes, and KJ. What do you guys think?

Talking Chop Trade Jair, Vasquez, and Lowe! Offense the worst in Braves HISTORY!

Long time Braves fan here from NYC, and I might be exagerating when I say trade those guys but I feel bad for our pitchers. These guys are pitching there brains out and are getting no results other then a L. Weither it be 7 innings of shut out baseball, our pitchers are getting the worse end of it. JJ, Vasquez, and Lowe deserve better treatment. On a good team Vasquez would of had at least 10 wins or more. Same goes for JJ and Lowe. Yes, they;ve had there moments but whats the point, they were going to lose anyways. The Braves offenses has to be the worst offense in the history of the Braves organization. It's just pitifull watching everyday. Doesnt pitching win games? Not in this case. Hitting does if you ask me. The Phillies were 1-8 on there homestand, lol, and the Braves couldnt make up ground? We actually lost ground during that week. Now were looking at the Nationals becuase thats the only team we are better then. ITS A LOST SEASON! Sorry

Talking Chop Griffey to decide between M's and Braves by Monday or Tuesday

Multiple sources have indicated that free-agent slugger Ken Griffey Jr. will decide between the Mariners and Atlanta Braves either by today or early Tuesday at the latest. The Braves are said to have no more than $2.5 million in total compensation to offer the 39-year-old, with base salary likely to be less than $2 million. But the Braves do offer Griffey the possibility of seeing his daughter play basketball in Atlanta while his son will be starting high-school football just an hour's flight away in Orlando, Fla., where Griffey has a home. It seems Griffey will play in Atlanta. For one, he doesnt need the money and at this point in his career, family is probablity more important. He's 20 minutes away from Spring Training in Orlando and the Braves have a better chance of making the playoffs then the M's.

Talking Chop Hampton leaves Astros for treatment

Let the fun begin! Astros left-hander Mike Hampton is returning to Houston to get treatment for an irregular heartbeat. Hampton was to be examined Monday by team physician Dr. Jim Muntz and will undergo a procedure that corrects his heartbeat with an electrical current. The condition was discovered during an EKG test Saturday that was part of the routine physical for Astros pitchers and catchers reporting to spring training. The Astros say the irregularity was minor and they hope to have Hampton back in camp Thursday. For those that wanted Hampton to re-sign with te Braves, how do you say now? Way a go Frank!

Talking Chop Outfield Options

Now that Abreu has signed with the Angels and Adam has signed with the lowly Nats, it seems the Braves have little options in getting there LF. The only players that are out there are Ken Griffey, Jim Edmonds, Luis Gonzalez, and Garret Anderson. None of these options are appealing but lets see if any of these players can really help the Braves. Lets break them down: Ken Griffey, 40, has been hurt since going to the Reds. Showed a little life last year but looks like he's heading back home to Seattle. Batted .245 with the Reds and .260 with the WS. Thanks but no Thanks! Jim Edmonds! This can be very interesting. Jim, 38, can be a one year bridge for Shafer. Batted .256 19HRS and 45rbi's in 250 at-bats with the Cubs. Is still solid in CF and still has a little pop. Stick him between Jeff and Kotch and you may get a balanced lineup. May be looking for a one-year deal with incentives. Nick Swisher, 27, batted .219 in 153 games last year with the Sox's. Yes he's still young and is a switch hitter but too expensive, doesnt hit for average(.244 career BA, but averages 28hrs a season) doesnt solve our 4th hole problem. $5.3 mil next year, $6.75 in 2010, $9mil in 2011 and $10.25mil team option in 2012. Worse comes to worse, I wouldnt mind taking him. Garret Anderson, 36, career .296 hitter, decent OBP 325 last year and a solid defender. Good guy in the club house, a veteran, and a great teammate. Has been averaing about 81 rbi's the last few years and has been hitting around 17hrs and batting .280. Obviously past his prime but can be a decent pickup. Luis Gonzalez,40, 3 teams in 3 years. Played in 136 games last year with the Marlins and his power is declining fast. Only 8hrs, 47rbi's and batted .260. At best, a 4th outfielder. Summary: If I had to pick, i would sign Edmonds to a one-year $4million deal and trade for Swisher, what do you think??

Talking Chop Andrew to the Rangers, Ohman gone, Will Glavine accept the offer? What does this mean?

The NY Post reported that Andrew Jones will sign with an already crowded outfield Texas Rangers team to a minor league deal worth $500k. Good Luck in Texas! Will Ohman had an offer on the table from the Braves since the beginning of the winter meetings and that offer is now off! Tom Glavine was offered a contract some where in the neighborhhod of $1-2million dollars, will Glavine accept that offer is TBD. I have a sense the Braves are going to make a move for an OF before Spring Training begins next week. Jones not offered a contract, Glavine offered $1mil, Ohman deal off the table. What do you think? Are the Braves saving money to go after that Bat? let me Know what you think!

Talking Chop Let Glavine Walk!

Yes Glavine went to Dr. Andrews and got the ok the his arm is fine and yes he will be ready for Spring Training. We all know that the Braves have only $8 million to spend on Glavine and an outfielder. The Braves have more then enough pitchers to plug into the 5 hole. We have alot of options with pitchers such as Jo-Jo, Morton, Hanson, Campillo etc.. Do we really need to sign Glavine for 3.5 million plus incentives? That cuts into our budget of $8 million into $4.5 million. Yes the market is dropping but you still wont sign Dunn for $4.5 million a year, maybe $5 but Glavine is not talking $3million. I say let the inexperience pitchers battle it out for the last spot and give Dunn $6 million a year and give Ohman $2 mii a year. What do you think?

Talking Chop Dodgers To Release Andruw Jones On Thursday Morning!

According to Ken Gurnick of MLB.com, the Dodgers are expected to officialy release Andruw Jones Thursday morning. Jones, you'll remember, agreed to defer the $21.1MM remaining on his contract back in early January to open up payroll for the Dodgers, and for a chance at a fresh start with a new team. The Dodgers have reportedly discussed a few potential trades this week, but all talks have apparently fallen flat. He has expressed interest in returning to the Braves.

Talking Chop Burnett's Next Team has to be driving distance from Baltimore!

Dave O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution has the latest on A.J. Burnett. The Braves will hold off on other moves for starting pitching until they hear from A.J. Burnett's agent Darek Braunecker about their offer (said to be five years, $75MM if the fifth-year option vests). Braunecker says he has numerous offers, though Burnett's next team will have to be within driving distance of his suburban Baltimore home. Jon Heyman says Burnett has multiple four-year offers and one five-year one. Braunecker says the Blue Jays aren't out of it, despite J.P. Ricciardi's comment, "It looks like we're going to lose Burnett."

Talking Chop YANKEES PREPARE A.J. OFFER

The Yankees, according to several industry insiders, spent yesterday preparing an offer - perhaps a five-year deal worth about $80 million - for Toronto righty A.J. Burnett. This would come after they offered Milwaukee lefty CC Sabathia a six-year contract worth between $140 million and $145 million. And the word on the MLB street is the Yankees have the glue for both. Furthermore, baseball decision-makers believe the Yankees will eventually go after Dodger free-agent righty Derek Lowe. GM Brian Cashman and Darek Brauneker, Burnett's agent, didn't return calls yesterday. "It wouldn't surprise me if they went to five years with [Burnett]," a baseball executive said of the Yankees. "[Ryan] Dempster is going to sign back with the Cubs for four years and $13 million per, and Burnett is worth more than that." I said it and I will say it again, WE NEED TO GIVE HIM HIS FIFTH YEAR AND WRAP THIS THING UP ASAP BEFORE THE YANKEES GET INVOULVED, what do you think?

Talking Chop O's may fit as third team in Peavy deal

The Orioles may end up as a third team in a three-way deal that would send Padres right-hander Jake Peavy to the Cubs, according to a report in the Baltimore Sun. The paper reported that the Orioles have started up trade talks again with the Cubs about outfielder Felix Pie, who -- with Baltimore second baseman Brian Roberts -- was part of a rumored deal discussed between the two teams last offseason. Sources told the Sun that Chicago would like a young pitcher in return for Pie, which could lead to the Orioles sending starter Garrett Olson to the Cubs, who would then trade the lefty to the Padres as part of a deal to land Peavy. Braves Need to move in on this really fast! What do you think?

Talking Chop Towers May Have Found 3rd Team!

Happy Thanksgiving Brave Nation! Yes, Iam spending my early part of my thanksgiving watching Curb your Enthusiasm and staying in the loop for any Braves moves or news. Nothing serious but I did find something. Padres GM Kevin Towers told Yahoo! Sports' Tim Brown that he might have identified a third team that would facilitate a Jake Peavy trade with the Cubs. While he's been upfront regarding just about everything in the trade process to date, Towers declined to name the third team. He said he intended to resume talks with the Cubs following the holiday.

Bucs Nation Bucs Over Lions @ Ford Field!

Another week another win! The Bucs have now have won 3 in a row and are keeping pace with the Panthers for first place in the division. The Buccaneers were trailing 17-0 before the first quarter was even over. But the offense awoke in the second quarter, scoring three unanswered touchdowns to take the lead before halftime. It was all down hill for the Lions from that point on. The Bucs defense only allowed 3points in the second half and keeped the Lions in check through out the whole game. Final score Bucs 38 Lions 20. Tampa Bay now improves to 8-3 with the victory, their second-best mark after 11 games after their 9-2 start in 2002. And yes we won the Super Bowl that year but lets no get ahead of our selves now! In this game everyone contributed from special teams, defense, and yes even the offense. Ronde had two interceptions today(the only two of the season) and one was returned for 65 yards for a TD! Jeff Garcia threw his first multi TD game of the season connecting with Hillard and Stevens. Clifton Smith helped the Bucs pull away at the beginning of the second half when he took a punt at his own 30, shot through the first line of tacklers, faked out punter Nick Harris at midfield and galloped 70 yards for a touchdown. Also Cadallac Williams returned for the first time in over more then a year and had 16 carries for 27 yards. Nothing special but a step in the right direction now that Graham is out for the year. We are looking better and Iam glad we scored alot of points, yes it was the Lions but I'll take it! Lets Go BUCS

Posting and Toasting LeBron James!!! Here we come!!

Yesterday afternoon the Knicks did the imposssible. They did something Isiah Thomas was suppose to do when he was the commander in chielf of this organization and failed like Bush. But on Nov.21, 2008, the Knicks are back. Not this year or the following year but for 2010 baby. I can see it now, Lebron James wearing number 23 at a packed house at the Garden and fans bowing to the King as he dunks from the foul line!! Ok, let me get serious again. Trading Jamal Crawford was tough for me. I was actually starting to like him. But again, the future, we have to focus on the future. Randolph took a while to warm up and had a great start to the season but not a great PF. Mardy Collins, whatever. We shed enough more payroll then Lehman Brothers, and dont you worry Q, Jefferey, Curry, your plane ticket out of town is nearing. This was a great day for Knicks fans. We deserve this. We are the toughest but diehard fans in the world. Sure Ewing teasted us in the playoffs but if we get Lebron and put a bunch of good role players around the King? Sky's the limit.

Bucs Nation Can the Bucs win their Division?

The Bucs have the defense to compete with any team in this league that can take us to Tampa in Feb. They have the ability to shut down good offenses like Atlanta, Green Bay, Broncos and the Carolina Panthers. But the Bucs have some issues. The Bucs have 2 problems. One. There biggest problem is there inability to put some points on the board. They struggle in the endzone, and it seems they hit a wall once they get down there. Matt Bryant is the teams MVP( Not kidding, our kicker) If wasnt for Matt Bryant making all those field goals in the first half's, second half's and OT's who knows how many games we would of lost. Gruden has to be more aggressive in his offensive play calling and give Bryant, Hillard, now Galloway, Smith, a chance to make some plays in the endzone. GET THE BALL IN THE ENDZONE. Garcia has been doing a great job for us so far and so has the O-Line. If the Bucs would of scored just one more TD against the Broncos and the miserable Cowboys we would be mentioned in the same sentence as the Giants and Steelers. Two. In 2002 when we won the Super Bowl, we not only did it with defense but we were road warriors. So far we've lost to the Saints(division rival) Cowboys and the Broncos all on the road and if it wasnt for Jeff Garcia's brilliant play last Sunday we would of lost to Kansas City to(By the way, no contending team gets rocked in the first half to a wack team like that) It doesnt get any easier with games against division rivals Atlanta, and Carolina(Monday Night game) and vs the Lions(Easy win). Can the Bucs pull it off? Can they win at Hotlanta and Carolina where its been hell for TB for a long time now, and did I mention its a Monday Night game? Only time will tell. The ability is there, the stage is set in TB now Score some TD's.

Talking Chop We Must Get Peavy!

We Braves Nation have no choice but to do what Peavy wants. If Peavy wants us to keep Escobar so be it. Its obvious he wants to come to Atlanta and not to Chicago or New York. Its been years since we had a front of the rotation guy in Atlanta with Peavy's caliber. It goes back to Smoltz, Maddux, and Glavine. Now we have the chance to do that again with Peavy, Jair, Freeagent(whether it be Burnett, Lowe, or Dempster) and Hansen.(And you cant forget Hudson, and Hampton if he decideds to re-sign again for less money) And me living in New York and getting hounded by Met fans is not cool. We need to regain our dominance and take what was taken from us. My point is guys we have to make this trade. The Padres are asking for prospects, meaning we dont know if these guys will ever bloosom to there cabalility. With Peavy we have a sure thing for the next 4 years. I will give the Padres: -Jo-Jo Reyes SP(Bobby has lost is patience, and refusing help from future Hall a Famers Smoltz and Glavine really set off an alarm, GET HIM OUT) -Shafer/Gorky OF's -Anyone one else except "the wave group" As for trading Johnson and a prospect to the Cardinals for Ryan Ludwick I dont buy into that. This guy is 30 years old and yes he's cheap but this was the first time he was able to stay healthy. He had a great year last year but I am just a little worried about guys who struggle and have a great year and are not able to adjust and I think Chipper needs a bigger bat to protect him(Fred Mcgriff, Andres Galarraga,Gary Sheffield,Tex)Ludwick? No. Johnson is going to be a great 2B man but I rather trade Johnson for someone is a proven hitter, I will even take a Maggalio Ordonez for crying out loud.As far as rumors go for trading Jeff Frankeour? Its not going to happen. I think he'll bounce back next year. Go Braves
