BT in Net tonight
11:32 AM:
Brad Thiessen will be the starting goaltender for the Pens in tonight's game.
Head coach Dan Bylsma had a few other udpates. Goalie Brent Johnson skated before practice for the first time in his rehab. Joe Vitale is day-to-day with an upper-body injury.
"Brent Johnson was back on the ice today for the first time in his rehab, so it was good to see him back on the ice," Bylsma said. "We’ll see how he progresses here. Could get back to practice this week. Joe Vitale is day-to-day. Upper body."
I'm excited because we're getting Thiessen some really good looks against some tough teams. The Jets are going to come out hard tonight as their still fighting for the playoffs.
Erie Otter Forward Steps in at Goalie
Really cool story about the Erie Otters of the OHL. My family is all from Erie, and I dawn the Otter when I play pick up, so I'm a little biased, but still a very good read.

Real Deal is back in for tonight. Foot not actually broken.
The Ultimate Cup Team
Again, going with the theme of injuries, I'm trying to get a little interaction from everyone, and to help you pass the time. I saw someone post something somewhere that the players injured right now would make the ultimate Cup team, and would most likely win the whole thing. With that said I'm going to look at the injured list, which you can find here again courtesy of Yahoo. Here are my lines.
Forwards:
Simon Gagne - Sidney Crosby - Brian Gionta
David Booth - Stephen Weiss - Devin Setoguchi
Guillaume Latendress - Scott Gomez - Ian Laperriere
Daniel Carcillo - Nathan Gerbe - Patrick Eaves
Defense:
Chris Pronger - Kris Letang
Goalies:
Goalie pickins' were slim, of course, but I would try everything in my power to get my boy Pechurskiy on to this team. I think my D corps are the strongest, mixture of strength and mobility, offense and defense. My forward lines could maybe use a little jumbling, but can you imagine this team? Almost makes you want to try and see if it's doable on NHL 12.
Let's see what everyone else thinks.
NHL Injuries
I was thinking about how many big names are injured right now, and found this list at Yahoo. There are plenty of typical foot, hand, groin injuries, but the concussions. . . so many of them, and to a lot of great young talent, not just the stars like Crosby, Staal, Pronger. Jesse Winchester of Ottawa, Jeff Skinner from Carolina, Nathan Gerbe of Buffalo, they all have concussions. Just thought this list might help some people see just how many great players are out.
Interesting clip of the Ben Lovejoy show. Interesting to hear him talk about the Penguins approach to puck retrieval.
This is a cool photo of Henrik Lundqvist jamming with Jay Weinberg, drummer for my favorite band Against Me! Jay is also the son of Max Weinberg, Bruce Springsteen's drummer.
I think it's cool seeing players doing other things besides being awesome hockey players.
Hey Rangers fans. I found this on one of the Tumblr's I follow and thought I would share it with you all because it's pretty cool. Jay Weinberg, son of Max Weinberg, AKA Bruce Springsteen's drummer, practicing with your own King Henry for a charity event.
Jay plays drums for my favorite band, Against Me! Hope you guys like it.
Oh ya, and Go Pens.
John Steigerwald called out by Puck Daddy
Has anyone else heard this?
John Steigerwald, the moron that he is, said that Ovechkin has taken performance enhancement drugs, which is retarded because hockey players taking steroids doesn't make sense. So Ryan Lambert comes on and tries setting it straight, calls the other Moron Brother Paul a huge homer, which he is.
The Steigerwalds share a brain, plain and simple, and John is pretty immature during the interview. Given both of their past, some could say borderline slanderous/libelous statements, I would love to see the two Steigies shit canned.
This is the hit on Letang. First, never mind the ass clown at the end of the clip who says Pacioretti was clearly hitting body. What a homer.
So why am I posting this? Because of Matt Cooke. I found it interesting watching Cookie's reaction to the entire thing. Should I tend to Letang, but you can tell he wants to go over and really mess Max up. But then, he remembers, no whistle, get back in the game, do your job.
People may doubt he's changing, but I think the old Cooke would have gone right after Max from the get go and most likely done something stupid.
Los Angeles Pens Fans
Hey everyone, I figured I would post this bad boy up to try and get a little solidarity.
I moved back to Los Angeles and thus can't watch every Pens game. And let's be honest, California hockey is a joke. So if there are any other people on Pensburgh that think it would be neat-o (ya, I went there) to start hanging out for games whenever possible, set up shop in a cool bar/restaurant like the ones back home, let's try and figure this thing out.
Let's start by if you're in the Los Angeles area throwing out where you're located, where you work, where you frequent, etc.
Keystone Logo
Hello everyone how are things this off-season?
I had a question/request I was hoping someone here could help me out with. I've been searching the web forever for the Pirates logo that has the P inside of a keystone. At PNC they had a ton of these on hats, but I just moved back to Los Angeles and won't be making it to PNC anytime soon.
If anyone has picture of this logo, knows a site where I can find it, whatever, I would greatly appreciate it. And thank you in advance for any help.

Penguins American Players
I can't stand my job. It's very boring. I mean very boring, as in, I would rather let dental students practice their root canal skills on me than work this type of job again. It's just not me. My solution is to sit on Pensburgh and wait for people to comment on threads and stories so I have something to do, hence why some of my comments may not make sense because I'm just too thrilled to have some type of interaction that interests me.
But today, I'm taking matters into my own hands. There has been a lot of talk about America lately, especially because our economy is so horrendous right now, and this is magnified because of my employment within the financial realm. But nay, I say, America, and particularly Pittsburgh, should be proud, because hockey season is coming up! And lots of hockey events are in store for this city! Pittsburgh may most likely host the next Entry Draft. Penn State is getting a Division I hockey program! The Frozen Four will be held in Pittsburgh in a couple of years! Stock market floundering? I don't care, because I am just waiting for Canada to buy us.
I undid my tie and put on my Curious George shirt and started looking around the Penguins history of players, inspired by Hooks' All Ex-Penguin Team. The 2010-11 Penguins squad had quite a few Americans on the team, more than people thought; I heard a lot of questions while listening to either the radio or tv broadcasts correct questions submitted asking why the Pens don't have many American players.
From last year alone, we had players such as:
Mike Rupp, from beautiful Cleveland, OH
Alex Goligoski- Grand Rapids, MN
Chris Conner- Westland, MI
Brent Johnson- Farmington, MI
Ben Lovejoy- Canaan, NH
Paul Martin- Elk River, MN
Matt Niskanen- Virginia, MN
Eric Tangradi- Philadelphia, PA
Brooks Orpik- San Francisco, CA
Depending on the kind of discussion you're in, those are impressive names and key parts to this Penguins team, whether talking about great defenseman in Orpik and Martin, solid, promising young talent in Tangradi, or what could be a great steal of a trade in Niskanen.
But in case you're curious now, because you've read this far, and want to know what other players in Penguins past have hailed from the U.S. of A. Here's another list.
Russ Anderson- Defense 1976-82- Des Moines, Iowa- 353 GP, 15 G, 77 A, 92 PTS, 684 PIM
Tom Barrasso- Goalie 1988-2000- Boston, MA- 460 GP, career record of 226-153-53
Phil "No Relation to Chris" Bourque- Defense 1983-92- Chelmsford, MA- 344 GP, 75 G, 89 A, 164 PTS, 435 PIM
Andy Brickley- Left Wing 1983-85- Melrose, MA- 95 GP, 25 G, 35 A, 50 PTS, 19 PIM
Jay Caufield- Right Wing 1988-93- Philadelphia, PA- 194 GP, 3 G, 7 A, 10 PTS, 714 PIM
Joe Mullen- Forward 1990-97- New York, NY- 379 GP, 153 G, 172 A, 325 PTS, 101 PIM
Kevin Stevens- Left Wing 1987-2002- Brockton, MA- 522 GP, 260 G, 295 A, 555 PTS, 1048 PIM
There are quite a few more, but these are the ones that stood out the most, that may invoke the most memories, and weren't around for their quick cup of the coffee with the team. You can check out the list I was using here. It kind of surprised me or at least reminded me remembering Stevens and Bourque and players like that were actually American players, which I think is usually what happens when fans get confused with player nationalities.

2011 Penguins Prospect Game
I just got back from Consol Energy Center where I personally witnessed the 2011 Prospect game. It was a good time, I must say, with quite a few people in attendance. The CEC essentially contained everyone to the lower bowl and to the half of the arena behind the benches.
I forgot a pen though, so I was unable to make notes and score who did what, you know, be "professional," but it's a good thing I have a good memory. Now what was I talking about?

July 1 Distraction
It's Friday, July 1, and I'm bored at work, already, and thought about putting up a little topic to try and make the time go by faster, at least until the deals start rolling at noon eastern.
While listening to the Fan yesterday here in Pittsburgh, a called asked the question, based on the Jagr saga going on, what is another player from Penguins past you would like to see join this team? Whether it be possible or fantasy, it doesn't matter.
I think we can say, unless you can offer a fresh new perspective to the argument, Hossa and Mario are givens.
I personally think it's hard to pinpoint a perfect player. If we're talking fantasy, Michele Brière would be my pick. A talented promising young player playing next to Sid and Geno and Neal. Can you imagine the possibilities? In terms of a more recent player, I would have to go with Ron Francis, straight up.
Let's go!
Heard this morning on the Fan that TK and the Pens have gotten much closer to a deal and it should be sealed up today.
We played together in 1987 in the Canada Cup. I had more fun playing with Mario than I've ever had playing hockey. He would have added 10 years to my career, without question. He was so smart and talented. We played the game the same way. We thought it the same way.
TSN Look at Penguins
Pay close attention to what they say about Niskanen and Martin.
I respect TSN and think it was a good look at the team and what can be expected.
I think all hockey fans can find pleasure in this.

Pens History of Matinees
The Penguins will host the Tampa Bay Lightning this Saturday for a noon Game 5 in which they will try and seal this series up. Whilst at work today, with many customers coming in and talking about last night's game, I heard a common theme: that the Pens are not a good team during these afternoon games, a statement I've seen declared on Pensburgh a few times as well.
With that said, I started looking into the Pens games played at 5 pm or before, because I think anything earlier than five is ungodly. You might be surprised with what is shown.
Keep in mind, I went back only to the 2007-08 regular season, playoffs included, because I thought that was the best place to start with this, I don't want to call it a dynasty, but a dynasty in the making, which is what we have with this Pens team.
Contrary to what many may think, in that time frame stretching back to the 2007-08 season, 63 games have been played before 5 pm, 35 of which were for victories, 28 for losses, which also includes shootout losses, of course. That is 56% of the time they won, 44% of the time they lost. Those are more surprising numbers than I thought they would be, as I'm sure we all may feel that, panic enveloping us, we lose a lot more often than we win these games.
So fear not, Pens fans- there is more hope than we thought that we can win this game this Saturday! Unless you want to look at it a little more logically, that there is a 50% chance we can win, 50% chance we can lose.
