A fan of the beautiful game for many years, discovered Villarreal through the CL heroics and heartbreaks. I liked the fact that they were from a small town in the Valencian Community and yet were on the world stage with Arsenal, Liverpool, Barcelona, etc. so began supporting Villarreal. I haven't made it to El Madrigal yet, but hope to one of these days!

My wife and I (and our three cats) are now living in central California, in the Sierra foothills. Apart from blogging about Villarreal, I also spend a good deal of free time cooking and playing music, and enjoying the local wines. I can't claim my paella is a true paella Valenciana, but it's getting to be pretty darn good!!

Relegation could make some good players available

Villarreal were linked with players like Marc Valiente, Javi Guerra, Ruben Castro and Joan Verdu before this season. They're not the only attractive players who might be made available if their teams are relegated. Check out Allen's list!

The relegation scrap in La Liga

Some big, big games this weekend if you're a fan of a club facing potential relegation from La Liga. Since Villarreal can't affect the outcome at all, let's just sit back and enjoy it.

Villarreal take on the league leaders

Allen and Sid discuss the past few results and look forward to this weekend's match against Atletico Madrid

Villarreal drop points with another home draw

Two points dropped today, for sure. Villarreal 1-1 Elche. A largely uninsporing performance frmo both sides with so much on the line.

Villarreal hang on for a valuable three points

It could have been a rout, but as it was Villarreal posted a clean sheet and a single Perbet goal gave the Submarine all three points.

A banged-up Villarreal visit Getafe

Villarreal's injury list has grown longer, with Musacchio, Dorado, Iñiguez, and Mario Gaspar all on the shelf. Anyone for playing three at the back?

A quick look at the Spanish Segunda División

The second tier in Spain is tough indeed, and this year the difference between potential salvation via promotion and dropping through the trapdoor into the Segunda B is especially small. With three-quarters of the season gone, we review the table

Valencia defeat an uninspired Villarreal, 2-1

Two examples of awful defending from set-pieces, and 90 minutes that created one corner and one lucky goal. That's the one-sentence takeaway from this loss.

Podcast: Villarreal face Valencia on Sunday!

The intrepid three--Allen, Ravi and Sid--vent about the Bilbao match, and get in some good shots at our next opponent, Valencia. The predictions are all over the place, and so too is the podcast...!

Where are they now, those Submariners?

Whatever happened to some of the players--some fringe, some not--who played for Villarreal over the last few years? Find out here.

Villarreal 1-1 Athletic Club: we deserved more

Villarreal were the better side for the first 65 minutes, but a questionable sending off gave the visitors the advantage and they equalized via an Aduriz header, to remain 6 points clear in fourth place and 7 ahead of us.

Podcast: A BIG match Monday versus Athletic Club

Allen, Sid, and Ravi (welcome back!!) discuss the Granada match as briefly as possible before looking at the next match--Athletic Club at El Madrigal on Monday. And why are we struggling of late? The trio have various ideas. Endavant Villarreal!!

The Yellow Submarine crashes at Los Carmenes

Oof. This was bad. Granada 2, Villarreal 0, and it could have been worse--the home side basically put its feet up and had a pitcher of sangria in the second half, content to preserve the 2-0.

Gamethread: Granada-Villarreal

Injuries keep Gio out, and Bruno starts in the back four. We'll see how it goes. Endavant Villarreal! Follow our gamethread and comment on the action!

Podcast: Disappointment vs Betis, long injury list

Allen and Sid review the Betis draw, a result neither team really wanted, and then look ahead to the Granada match. Injuries are the big story this week.

Villarreal travel to Granada on Saturday

Six points behind Athletic Bilbao (themselves facing a difficult match in the Mestalla), Villarreal need a win in Granada to keep the pressure on for the last Champions League place. We can do this.

Villarreal-Real Betis: Preview

The Yellow Submarine host colista Real Betis on Sunday. El Madrigal should be quite full, as the club plays homage to the fans who behaved impeccably in evacuating the ground late in the Celta...

Podcast: Looking forward to Sunday

Allen and Sid review our last game, the punishment meted out to the club as a result of the tear gas canister, and look forward to the visit of Betis.

A Bulgarian Villarreal??

Big surprise today in the Europa League (apart from Betis winning) was Ludogorets Razgrad's 3-3 draw vs. Lazio, which sent the Bulgarian side through to the final 16 and a tie with Valencia. The...

Time for another roundup of Villarreal news and anything else deemed interesting....

Villarreal hang on for a 2-1 win against Espanyol

In a pulsating, excellent game, Villarreal went two goals up and withstood a furious Espanyol comeback to take home three valuable points. Endavant Villarreal!!!

Allen and Sid suggest Marcelino might ring the changes on Saturday. Yes, it's another Villarreal USA podcast!

Villarreal news and fans' forum, February 10

An interview with our women's first-team coach, an interview with a Villarreal scout, and more.....

Villarreal go down to Real Madrid, 4-2

Not the best of matches, nor the worst. Four goals given up though is cause for concern--and we could have played a lot better.

Podcast: Allen and Sid preview Real Madrid

The Villarreal USA crew review the Osasuna win, and look forward to the Madrid match.

Villarreal travel to the Bernabéu: Nothing To Lose

Just to confirm, there will be 22 players on the pitch when Villarreal take on Real Madrid tomorrow. Rather than focus on the one who won't be, let's look at those who will. Villarreal hope to spring a surprise!

Transfer Podcast: loanees in, Hernán out

Sid and Allen talk about our transfer philosophy and results, now that the January window has closed.

Villarreal defeat Osasuna at El Madrigal

It wasn't pretty (well, about half an hour of it was) but an under-strength Villarreal rode the finishing of Perbet to a 3-1 win today at EL Madrigal over Osasuna.

Villarreal host Osasuna on Monday

The Yellow Submarine need to get back to winning ways, and a visit of Osasuna to El madrigal ought to provide an opportunity to do it. No Bruno or Cani though.
