A fan of the beautiful game for many years, discovered Villarreal through the CL heroics and heartbreaks. I liked the fact that they were from a small town in the Valencian Community and yet were on the world stage with Arsenal, Liverpool, Barcelona, etc. so began supporting Villarreal. I haven't made it to El Madrigal yet, but hope to one of these days!

My wife and I (and our three cats) are now living in central California, in the Sierra foothills. Apart from blogging about Villarreal, I also spend a good deal of free time cooking and playing music, and enjoying the local wines. I can't claim my paella is a true paella Valenciana, but it's getting to be pretty darn good!!

The group stage has been more enjoyable than usual (well, not for everyone) but now we turn to the knockout round, where extra time and penalties can decide who goes through. And don't forget,...

Suarez ban is among most severe in FIFA history

I guess FIFA wasn't impressed with Uruguay's defense of Suarez, safe to say. 9 match ban for the national team; 4 month ban elsewhere, during which time he can have no football-related activity...

A wild day on the World Cup stage

Uruguay and Italy, two teams that have the "win at all costs" mentality....but what Luis Suarez did was beyond the pale.

World Cup: Do or die for Croatia and Mexico

Hard to believe the focus today isn't on defending champions Spain, but their match against Australia means nothing. Netherlands-Chile decides who faces Brazil in the next round, and Mexico-Croatia...

Gio fairly quiet, works hard as El Tri earn draw

Mexico went toe-to-toe with favored Brazil, and came out with a point. Some 0-0 draws are boring; this was one of the best matches so far. Does drag the goal average down, though.
