A fan of the beautiful game for many years, discovered Villarreal through the CL heroics and heartbreaks. I liked the fact that they were from a small town in the Valencian Community and yet were on the world stage with Arsenal, Liverpool, Barcelona, etc. so began supporting Villarreal. I haven't made it to El Madrigal yet, but hope to one of these days!

My wife and I (and our three cats) are now living in central California, in the Sierra foothills. Apart from blogging about Villarreal, I also spend a good deal of free time cooking and playing music, and enjoying the local wines. I can't claim my paella is a true paella Valenciana, but it's getting to be pretty darn good!!

Villarreal lose at Valladolid, 1-0

The Submarine's engines never got past neutral today, I'm afraid. Valladolid scored from a free kick late in the first half and held on for a 1-0 victory that may have saved their coach's job.

Villarreal journey to Valladolid in a key matchup

Valladolid have a decent roster, but results have been poor. The Submarine would like to keep up their sparkling away form of late and pick up three points, but it won't be easy.

Villarreal welcome Almeria to El Madrigal

Time to focus on the league again--and with a struggling Almeria coming to town, three points from this match are essential to get those good vibes going and keep up the fight for a European place.

Villarreal go out of the Copa to Real Sociedad

After defeating La Real 5-1, we can't put the ball in the net, even with a penalty awarded to us. And so, we're out of the cup. Yawn.

PREVIEW: Villarreal CF-Real Sociedad

Time to get back to winning ways at El Madrigal. Real Sociedad come to town, though, so it won't be easy.

Tight, tense goalless encounter in the Anoeta

Tight, tense, exciting...but goalless. Villarreal are denied a clear penalty that could have resulted in the vital away goal, but otherwise it was quite even. All to play for in El Madrigal, then.

Villarreal visit La Real in the Copa. A guanyar!

Mexicans Carlos Vela, Javier Aquino and Gio dos Santos should all be on the pitch today as Villarreal go to Donostia in an attractive Copa del Rey round-of-16 battle.

A sad end to 2013 as Villarreal lose to Sevilla

Two defensive errors and a lack of cutting edge in attack spell disaster for Villarreal today. We perhaps deserved a draw even so, but didn't get it.
