Deadspin has a new excerpt of the Payton biography. Centered around his attitude after SB XX. I found it interesting thought some of you might too.

Collins was carried off the field on a stretcher after sustaining a frightening neck injury in the fourth quarter of Green Bay's victory at Carolina on Sunday. Collins spent the night in the hospital and returned to Green Bay on Monday afternoon to meet with the team's medical staff.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Collins was present for a team meeting Monday, wearing a neck brace but otherwise in good spirits.

From sure-fire inside-the-park HR to failed triple... Also: Reggie Miller sighting for added randomness.

Windy City Gridiron Poll: Are you buying the Bears?

Alright, Bears. You've got me. I was wrong heading into the season. I'm now going to offically believe you're good.

The defense? Pretty good. Wish they'd been able to keep the game from getting that close, but that last TD from Vick was stunningly beautiful. Of course, if someone on our side had gotten their paws on the ball we'd call it a bad decision!

The offense? Jay was awesome (although he does need to watch his mouth, that penalty was bad and the fine could be bad too). Bubble screens, YAC, 8 yards/carry. Nice plan from Martz and even better execution from the players. I'm impressed and happy to be wrong. At least this week.

Poll
Are you buying into this team being good and playoff bound?
Heck yeah!

"It's a glorified ankle sprain," the doctor said.

I was kinda "meh" on the whole thing (because seriously a male athlete being a jerk is definitely not news to me) but this article is a really well stated reason for WHY this case matters.

Worth the read.

Beautiful and moving article from Paige.

Worth the read.

In loving memory of Kenny McKinley, no longer ask "Why?" — ask "What can we do to save thousands of others in Colorado?"

He'd been having a really good year. Out with season-ending surgery on torn muscle in right thumb.

Jeremy Green possessed more than 50 images or depictions of child pornography and admitted that he is a cocaine user, according to police and prosecutors.

Just... if you do go to this link? Don't read the comments, they are everything I hate about sports fandom and the internet.

Pretty disturbing case. Was wondering what he wasn't doing the Football Today podcast anymore.

Former New York Yankee first baseman Wally Pipp called Dorothy "Dottie" Kamenshek "the fanciest-fielding first baseman I've ever seen, man or woman."

She was the best player in the Women's League during WWII and the main character in "A League of Their Own" was named after her.

May she rest in peace and not be forgotten.

Windy City Gridiron Pisa Tinoisamoa May Be Out For a Month; Sign LB Tim Shaw

Brad Biggs has tweeted:

Bears expected to sign LB Tim Shaw:

Strong-side linebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa is also out about a month, maybe a little more, with a right knee sprain. The Bears could need special teams help as well with Trumaine McBride signed. Shaw, who was released by Jacksonville at the end of the summer, is flying in tonight. He will likely sign the contract on Tuesday.

Also, Vaughn McClure is reporting that Pisa could play Sunday:

pisa is day to day with a knee sprain. could play sunday

He adds an explanation as to why Urlacher is done:

12 weeks in a cast followed by 4 weeks of recovery.

Windy City Gridiron Dvoracek hurt. Torn ACL/MCL sprain? Status unclear

In a shock to no one, Dusty Dvoracek is reportedly out for the season:

Defensive tackle Dusty Dvoracek, who had a sack, tackle for loss and quarterback hit Saturday night against the New York Giants, will miss the season after tearing the ACL in his right knee, a source close to the player said. It's the fourth straight season-ending injury for the hard worker who has had a star-crossed career since being selected in the third round in 2006. [Source]

Really kind of stinks. I like the guy, he works hard.. but he really is made of glass.

Look for Matt Toeina to make the 53-man now for depth on the d-line.

EDIT by ChiFan13: Seems there's some confusion on this story. Biggs originally posted this story, but the Bears haven't made an announcement yet. This much we do know: Dvoracek has a knee injury - the severity of which is undetermined at this time. (Helmet tip - EricEmpire)

Update from Vaugh McClure's twitter:

Lovie said Dusty Dvoracek has MCL tear and has NOT been ruled out for the season. More tests to come Wed.

And here's a link to an article in the Tribune. (Thanks to DisCUBbobulated)

Bleed Cubbie Blue Cubs deal inked

Tribune Co. says it has signed an agreement to sell the iconic franchise to the Ricketts family.

Tribune Co. said Friday that it signed an agreement to sell the iconic franchise to the Ricketts family. The family is paying about $800 million to acquire a 95 percent interest in a package of assets: the team, Wrigley Field and Tribune Co.'s 25 percent stake in Comcast SportsNet Chicago, which broadcasts many Cubs games on cable television.

The agreement values the franchise and related assets at $845 million, less than the Rickett's winning bid in January of $900 million. Tribune Co. will retain a 5 percent ownership stake in the joint venture.

Thanks to JB23: Crane Kenny will be on ESPN 1000 at about 4:15pm

Windy City Gridiron Training Camp/Favreapollza: 8/18

As before, I'm following (football-wise anyway): Brad Biggs, Jeff Dickerson, Greg Olsen, Matt Forte, Vaughn McClure, David Haugh, Fontel Mines, Dez Clark, Tommie Harris, WindyCG, Peter King, Ross Tucker, Adam Schefter, Jay Glazer and ChicagoBears.com. All links *should* open in a new window!

Be advised: Anyone calling themselves Jay Cutler is a lying liar. (Helmet tip: Roger_Ledger!)

Practice starts at three, so more current updates will start then.

Lots of the tweets from today have been Farve centric so rather than just ignore them I figured I'd include my favorites. That and if I ignored everything Favre, there wouldn't be anything here!
