Holiday is expected to stay in the draft if he can get a promise from at least one NBA team that they'd draft him in the lottery. I spoke with a number of NBA GMs and most of them have him ranked somewhere between 8 and 16 on their draft boards. A couple have him even higher and a couple have him in the early 20s.

"He's going to be really good," one NBA GM told ESPN.com. "The system that UCLA plays held him back. He's a much better prospect than what you saw this year. Once he gets into workouts with the Currys and Tyreke Evans[es] of the draft, I think you'll see him rise into the lottery. He's got a lot of physical gifts, and he's got a great basketball IQ."

The Future...

I felt like throwing up today. Multiple times. I was so depressed it was ridiculous. My heart was heavy with shame and anger for several hours.

The worst part?

This wasn't the first time. Or the second. Or the third.

Fellow bruin fans, we just wasted 5 years on a man who ran our program into the ground and never changed his facial expression while doing it. Starting with Hurricane George, our program has slowly declined to the point where we are now at rock-bottom... during a season where we returned 20 STARTERS AND AN ALL-AMERICAN. This is coaching. Toledo got screwed by outside circumstances and never recovered. We then sat on our hands and watched our rivals rise to power due to our AD's inability to hire and recognize a competent head coach. It's over. We've hit a new low.

I feel that we are now a rebuilding program. Our natural advantages will give us a smaller period of waiting time before returning to prominence, but now, as a collective community, we must wait.

It sucks. I just waited 5 years for what, 4-point upset win over USC?! I want my five years back. But it seems like I have to do it all over again.

You know what? I can do it. I bleed Blue and Gold. We all do. Our boys, no matter what their record, are OUR BOYS.

We have to do it right this time. We HAVE TO. I will wait 5 more years to have the kind of confidence in our coach that we have every single game, hell, every offseason, for Coach Howland. I don't want to rush this process. I want the right man, and I want his players and his system in here at UCLA as soon as possible. But impatience will kill us. We now get to take our time, deliberate, make the right decision. The future of UCLA football is cloudy, but let's not hurry to clear things up. After all, it seems like we've got all the time in the world.

I don't have any coaching candidate I particularly like, or anyone I feel is being impatient. I just want to know how you guys feel about what will happen now. Anyone?

2008 Football Recruit gettin' some love

Class of '08 recruit Milton Knox got some serious love from Fox's beloved fishwrap .

I'm too lazy to post some quotes this late (I assume N will have something up on this later), but it looks like Milton is on his way to becoming a Bruin we can be proud of. Already receiving comparisons to MJD in terms of size (he's 5'8) and running ability, Knox seems to possess the same class that we came to expect and enjoy from #21. Per the article, he's shown style on the field and integrity in the classroom.

Many of us are skeptical about the strength of some of the commits from the 08 class, and whether KD will even be here to coach it, so I'm glad for a reason to get excited. I can't wait to see this kid suit up in Bruin Blue'n Gold.

Our backfield becomes the School of Hard Knox in 2008.

Go Bruins Go Bruins Go Bruins Go Bruins Go Bruins Go Bruins Go Bruins Go Bruins Go Bruins Go Bruins Go Bruins Go Bruins Go Bruins Go Bruins Go Bruins Go Bruins Go Bruins Go Bruins Go Bruins Go Bruins Go Bruins Go Bruins Go Bruins Go Bruins Go Bruins Go Bruins Go Bruins Go Bruins Go Bruins Go Bruins Go Bruins Go Bruins Go Bruins Go Bruins Go Bruins

Mystery Recruit

Alrighty then. I spent the last two weeks anticipating the signing of a top basketball recruit today. And so far, disappointment reigns supreme. Now, I assume several of you have Scout or Rivals subscriptions. Anyone have news? ANYONE?

I heard that Legion's mother has eliminated us from the running, but also that we're his #1 choice. As to the other 3 big targets over the next two years, I believe we have a great chance with Jrue, a decent one with Drew Gorden, no idea about Legion, and a punchers chance at Sidney (If BH starts recruiting HARD and soon). Those four guys are the ones that I thought Sonny might have been talking about 2 weeks ago. Of course, I could be completely wrong. I'm also freaking desperate for basketball season again.

We DID snag a commit from a 6'1 Texas RB by the name of Aundre Dean today. I'm praying we wasn't the Mystery Recruit. Welcome to the Bruin family, Aundre, but the only UCLA football team I have confidence in plays on the other side of the ball.

So any news or ideas on our standing with the B-Ball recruits? I'm kinda desperate, been waiting for this topic to come up for some time.

Pauley rennovations reported by SI

Bumped from the diaries. M will have more on this later since he has already been doing some great posts on Pauley Restoration. Really interesting that UCLA comes out with this news just when M turned up the heat wrt Pauley on BN. GO BRUINS. - N

Sports Illustrated has a small piece on the prepping for the Pauley Rennovations.

The article lists new locker rooms (as well as upgrades), adding a video room, media room, medical treatment area and practice facilities as well as additional concession areas, restrooms and modern arena technology as planned rennovations.

My personal thoughts: It sounds nice, but let's not emulate the Galen center. Cameron Indoor, MacArther Court (I've visited both) are amazing places that still retain thier purpose: providing an adiquate home court advantage. The fans are loud, colorful, and RIGHT ON TOP OF YOU.

Pauley provides less of one, mostly due to the lack of insane fans outside The Den. The other reason is the seating. There is a massive gap between the baseline seats and the court, and half the courtside seats are given to "High Rollers". Now, I know this isn't true for ALL the UCLA boosters, but most of those fans are old alumni who simply own the tickets because they're family hierlooms. So we lose a little right there. But the whole stadium could be more compact near the court, with more seats added for more rabid students.

The seats themselves don't need to be changed at all. (to copy the plush, leather seating of say, the GC or Staples.) We just need to make the place more indimidating and harder to play in for opposition (not that 11 championship banners and Coach Wooden aren't intimidating by themselves) I'm just more worried about the Home Court Advantage than the Home Court itself.

SI reports that there still isn't a premium source for funds. Let's get the word out so we can get Pauley rocking like never before.
