Reinhart Suspended 4 games at WJC

He will miss the Bronze game and the first 3 games next year if he's on the squad. This was a result of a high sticking which he received a minor penalty for. The discipline board feels it was an intentional high stick to the face (though Canada, of course, thinks otherwise).

Isles assign 21 to BPT including Hamonic & Nino

In preparation for a lockout the team has moved pretty much every non-waiver eligible player to the AHL roster. Strome and Reinhart have been assigned to their junior teams.

A truly great plea to get a deal done by Sept 15th.

Trivino Pleads Guilty: Receives Two Years Probation

Trivino will also need to pass alcohol and drug tests during that time. Per BD Gallof: Trivino's attorny told the court that he (Trivino) expects to have an NHL contract and be assigned to camp by the end of the month even if it's not with the Isles. UPDATE: Per Arthur Staple: Trivino is NOT invited to Isles camp and will not be signed (though the Isles retain his rights)

DiPietro officially removed from Injured Reserve

Just a formality but still a signal of the start of the yearly great goalie debate.

Vote for the Isles

There is an ongoing fan survey on Reddit and the Isles are terribly CBJ & Florida low. Please take five seconds to vote up the Isles.

Best NHLers at the little things

Martin is on here for his hitting but perhaps more interesting is that John Tavares was second in the league in takeaways (2 more than Datsyuk).

THN: League offer a reasonable start

The key word here is start. This isn't a take it or leave it proposal but a jumping off point for negotiations.

Great article on Boyes' admiration of Doug Weight

Says talking to Doug on July 1st greatly influenced his decision to give the Islanders a try.

TSN Mock Draft: Reinhart at Four?

The last couple of weeks the TSN guys have been moving Reinhart up. First McKensie ranked him 4th on his final list. Now McGuire & Button have him going at 4 in their mock draft. His size and skill set have had many here interested but mostly in a "move down and take Reinhart" fashion. But I have to ask, is Reinhart an option at 4? I like the kid but I just don't see him going that high.

Isles using huge psych test on draft prospects?

'And if the teens wanted off-the-wall questions, they got them as part of a huge psychological questionnaire distributed by the New York Islanders before the combine began, to be completed in a short time frame at the players' houses (in the Greater Toronto Area, for example, an Isles staffer would drop the test off then collect the answers hours later, driving a circuit for multiple players).' I would love to see a copy of this. Didn't find it yet.

Grigorenko to 14th in Latest Draft List by Craig Button

His list is usually a bit out there but that's a huge fall. He also has Murray at 12. At the very least it gives you an idea of how wide open it is after Yakopov. (Button has Grigs going 3rd in his mock draft though, go figure).

Draft Lottery odds for Tuesday Night

The Chances the Isles will pick: 1st: 10.7% 4th: 66.7% 5th: 22.6%

Penalty +/-: Lots of good Isles surprises

An interesting look at the best and worst players when it comes to net penalties. A few things surprised me here. Tavares is tied for first. I know he draws penalties but with his PIM dropping he's actually reached the top. Matty Mo makes the top 20 for forwards as well. PA does not make the worst list. Even though he takes a lot of penalties he also draws them. AMac is forth best among defensemen and Eaton is one of only four players with more than 40 games to not have a single EV penalty. Not surprising, Staois is near the top of the worst list with a net -15 penalties drawn/taken.

Yzerman: Let juniors play in AHL after 3 CHL seasons

Tampa's GM has taken the lead on trying to change the "20 y/o rule" As Nino continues in the too good for juniors but not NHL ready purgatory I say the change cannot come soon enough.

Draft 2012: Reinhart has look of future NHL star

The trade deadline has passed and the playoffs seem further out of reach by the day. Time to talk draft. There are quite a few really good defensemen available this year but right now Griffin Reinhart has to be my favorite. He has size, speed, a hard shot, but soft hands who models his game as a Shea Weber/ Chris Pronger hybrid.

Sporting News: John Tavares on Facing Expectations

"Everywhere can always still get better," Tavares told Sporting News. "You’re never perfect. Whether it’s a thing I’m good at or things that I need to work on. Understanding the game at this level and what it takes to win and be successful over an 82-game schedule, we’re still working toward getting to the playoffs and that’s something I need to keep getting better at. My consistency needs to get better, and I still need to work on everything, whether it’s my skating, getting stronger, or being better defensively, capitalizing on opportunities more often."

Roenick: Inconsistent Islanders

"This team probably works as hard, if not harder, than any in the National Hockey League. But when the moments get bigger, they seem to find ways to lose in big ways."

CHL/NHL deal expires in July

Could we see an end to the age 20 rule (which has kept Nino from the AHL)?

Wishart Recalled; Rakh sent back to BPT

I guess whoever said he had his bags packed was right on.

NHL should give AHL stars a chance

Good article about finding the next PA Parenteau.

Poulin named AHL player of the week

He ended the week with a 4-0-0 record, .980%, 0.48 GAA and 3 shutouts.

Former 6th overall pick Brule on Re-Entry Waivers

I would claim him and waive Pandolfo in a second. The team would be on the hook for only half the prorated salary (his nhl salary is 1,850,000) and a RFA for next year.
