OT: The rainy day thread
It is just pouring here in the Bay Area. I've already heard stories of blackouts, floods and accidents. How's it looking for you guys out there? I'm in South San Francisco and it's raining really hard but not a lot of problems yet.
I started this thread because I'm going to be stuck at work until 8PM tonight because of a deadline. I want to live through you people! What do you guys do on a rainy day or what would you do? Or anything else you want to talk about. Honestly, I wish I was just at home reading.

September Callups
Per Baggs, Joaquin, Guzman, Bowker up. Aurilia, Torres activated from the DL and Penny's contract bought. Burriss is transfered to the 60 day DL to make room.
"More to come after Fresno plays its final game this week."

Buster Posey in September
I know this has been discussed in other various areas on this site that Sabean and the Giants have no plans to bring Buster up in September. Can you more level headed people convince me why we shouldn't bring him up? I don't know if I understand the reasoning behind this. He won't be playing in September anyway and the only two catchers on the 40 man are Bengie and Eli Whiteside (not counting Pablo)
Crabtree's Agent Threatening to Re-Enter Crabtree in 2010 Draft
Crabtree needs to fire his agent. Does he really think Crabtree has any leverage? He fell to 10 this year. How far is he going to fall next year?
For Masochists
For anyone that needs a good cry tonight: Game Six of the World Series that never happened is on ESPN Classic at 8PM EST.
Matt Cassel Traded to Chiefs
FOOCH'S NOTE 11:15AM: Obviously this isn't a 49er pickup, but it will end any discussion of Cassel going to the 49ers. We've got an ESPN link and NFL.com link. Vrabel and Cassel for a high 2nd round pick? I think the Chiefs made off quite well, particularly given the state of their QB situation, which is much worse than the 49ers.

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports that Matt Cassel has been traded to the Chiefs.
The Boston Globe's Mike Reiss has confirmed the news, which is part of the trade sending Mike Vrabel to Kansas City. There were rumors Cassel could be involved in a three-team swap, but it appears Kansas City will be his final destination. Compensation has not been announced, but it's safe to say the Tyler Thigpen era is over before it started.
Well this certainly changes the first round of the draft. With Cassel, I doubt they'd draft a QB. I don't know that much about the Chiefs. What are their other needs?

Quick Question
A quick Google search could've answered this for me, but I figured asking the McCoven would be more fun. Can someone tell me why the BBWA gets to decide these major awards like the CY?
Giants Sign 16 Year old RHP Mateo
http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=txgiantsmateo&prov=st&type=lgns
SAN FRANCISCO (TICKER) —The San Francisco Giants signed 16-year-old Dominican righthander Luis Angel Mateo on Wednesday, the first day international prospects are eligible to sign with major league clubs.
Terms were not disclosed.
The Giants were more than happy to secure the services of the 6-3, 175-pound Mateo.
“The Giants are very pleased to be able to sign Luis Mateo,” said John Barr, the special assistant to general manager Brian Sabean. “He is a young, strong pitcher who shows good command of two pitches with a plus breaking ball. Today is the beginning of the signing season, and we will continue to be aggressive in signing players both domestically and internationally.”
I'll let you experts dissect and discuss. More information would be nice.
OT: Since I've got your attention. I have two tickets to the Giants vs. the Brewers on July 20th. The seats aren't great (View Reserved) but I can't go because I'll be doing the Aids Walk. I'm willing to let them go for free since I didn't pay for them anyway but a small donation (in your name) to sponser me would be appreciated!

Ortmeier is a switch hitter no longer!
Switch-hitting Dan Ortmeier will begin batting exclusively from the right side.
Ortmeier, who has started the season 1-for-11, is a natural righty. "Right now, obviously, I feel more confident right-handed. It's my natural side, and it always comes back to me quicker," Ortmeier said. The 22-year-old has been adjusting to first base, but with Dave Roberts out he got the start in left field against a southpaw on Tuesday.Rotoworld says he's 22 which would be fantastic! I think it's a good move and we'll see if it increases his value at all. What do everyone else think?
