A's Fans in Boston
Hey Everyone,
I am relatively new to the Boston area, and was wondering if their are any big time A's fans like myself in the area? I have found a couple of sports bars that carry the A's telecasts (so long as the Red Sux) are not on every television, if people want to get together to watch a couple of games. Is anyone planning on going to either of the weekend series at Fenway this yr?
Fire Sing!
I must say that it saddens me to be calling for this as I still supported him through all of the stuff that has gone on this season, but at this point I really hope he is not around next week. This was the worst called game I have ever witnessed as a 49er fan, and I am in no hurry to watch this again for the rest of this season. Good luck Mike, maybe you can land a job as a linebacker coach somewhere else in the NFL.
Dan Uggla
Anyone interested in acquiring Dan Uggla? He could play Third, Second, Lf?, DH, and has some pop. I do not know what we would have to give up. I know they just upgraded their bullpen in the Maybin trade.
1. Do you think we should trade for Uggla?
2. If so, what would you be willing to give up?
I think personally I would be willing to give up Mortenson, Sweeney or Davis, and another piece.
1st Mock attempt
Hey everyone,
This is my first post to this site, and really the first time I have sat down to construct a mock draft this offseason. I welcome any feedback and criticism. Let me know what you think.
1. St. Louis Rams- Jimmy Clausen, QB, Notre Dame
If the Rams select Suh they will to much money tied up in to their D-line, and one would assume have to fork over franchise QB money next year. Would benefit from a trade down as they should be able to select either Bradford or Clausen a couple of picks down the line. Have Clausen as #1 QB until Bradford proves himself healthy.
2. Detroit Lines- Ndumakong Suh, DT, Nebraska
While I believe the Lions could benefit from selecting Okung here their run defense was abysmal last year, and prospects like Suh do not come around very often. Look for Detroit to grab some O-line help later on in the draft.
3.Tampa Bay Bucs- Gerald Mccoy, DT, Oklahoma
The Bucs could be torn between Mccoy and Eric Berry here, but positional value and need are both fulfilled with this pick.
4. Washington Redskins- Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma
This is where things get interesting. Dan Snyder loves to make splashes and since their is no FA QB worth a splash he takes Bradford here. If this was my decision I probably would have grabbed Okung.
5. Kansas City Chiefs- Russel Okung, OT, Oklahoma St
The state of Oklahoma is really racking up the top 10 selections as this makes three in a row. The Chiefs make out like bandits here and grab the best OT in the draft. Hopefully Okung will help a Oline that was already improving become a strength for this team.
6. Seattle Seahawks- Eric Berry, S, Tennessee
The Seahawks have many holes that need to be filled. They lack a QB of the future, a LT to protect the QB, and a RB to relieve pressure on the QB. However, I do not believe they can pass up a talent like Berry at this point, and they will be able to address some of those other needs at pick #14.
7. Cleveland Browns- Joe Haden, CB, Florida
The Browns are a mess, however with the selection of Haden they will actually have a decent CB tandem. Haden presents the best value at this point in the draft, and that is the direction the Browns will go.
8. Oakland Raiders- Tim.... good thing Al Davis decided to take a nap. Derrick Morgan, DE, Georgia Tech
Al quickly reverses his decision to boycott negotiations with Morgan when he finds out Morgan's height weight and forty times all fall in the top 5% of the Raiders sorted excel sheets for those slotted areas. Al actually apologizes to Morgan and damns him to NFL purgatory with a 8yr contract.
9. Buffalo Bills- Anthony Davis, OT, Rutgers
The Bills line never recovered from the departure of Jason Peters. Their are a myriad of OT they could select here but I went with Davis as I believe he has the best potential to become a pro bowl LT.
10. Jax Jags- Dez Bryant, WR, Oklahoma St.
This makes it the fourth player from the state of Oklahoma to go in the top 10. I was torn in many different directions with this pick but in the end decided to go with the playmaking WR. The Jags really want Morgan to fall this far.
11. Denver Broncos- Rolando Mcclain, LB, Alabama
The Broncos have an aging LB core and are able to fill it with a sure thing ILB. Mcclain will bring some speed and power to this defense.
12. Miami Dolphins- Dan Henderson, DT, Texas
The Dolphins grab the big bodied DT to clog up the middle of their defense.
13. SF Niners- Brian Baluga, OT, Iowa
The Niners have some questions along the OL. They would probably like to go with CJ Spiller here but fear that the Seahawks will grab Baluga with the next pick. Baluga steps in and provides an immediate upgrade for the Niners at RT.
14. Seattle Seahawks- CJ Spiller, RB, Iowa
The Seahawks probably would rather have Baluga than Spiller as OT is a harder position to fulfill than RB, and the Niners were probably hoping Spiller would fall until #17. Maybe the Hawks trade above the Niners to get in position to grab Spiller, or the Niners trade up from #17 to get Spiller and Baluga. Spiller will provide the Hawks with an option that their offense is severely lacking.
15. New York Giants- Earl Thomas, S, Texas
The Giants have major problems at S. While they could look to add someone like Price to beef up the Dline their Dline is still serviceable. They grab Thomas to come in and hopefully play the best CF in New York since Willie Mays, or at least Bernie Williams.
16. Tennessee Titans- Brian Price, DT, UCLA
I really struggled with this pick. DT is not a huge issue for Tennessee, but Price provides great value at this pick. I could see them going a number of different ways here, perhaps Trent Williams to help the already solid o-line, perhaps whomever they deem as the 2nd best CB. Jason Pierre-Paul could be an option here as well.
17. SF Niners-Taylor Mays,S, USF
The Niners were probably hoping that Thomas fell to them here. To be honest even though I am a Niners fan I am having a hard time making this selection. I would prefer to see them trade down at this point for Mays, Paul, or Iupati. However since I am not projecting trades I went with the option that fills a bigger need as well as has in my opinion the most upside. If I was the 49ers I would be looking to trade back and grab some extra picks in this scenario.
18. Pittsburgh Steelers- Trent Williams, OT, Oklahoma
Trent will step in and fill a hole on the right hand side of the line. He is a big physical lineman who should immediately dominate in the Steelers smash mouth style of football.
19. Atlanta Falcons- Jason Pierre-Paul, DE, USF
The Falcons grab Paul here to help them with their pass rush. Paul has a tremendous upside and two weeks from now may be projected a lot higher then this. The Patriots may have some interest in trading up to grab Paul before he goes here.
20. Houston Texans- Carlos Dunlap, DE, Florida
Houston would probably have targeted Thomas with this pick here, or Paul if he fell but the Dunlap is what is left. Which is not necessarily a bad thing. Dunlap and Williams have the potential to wreck havoc on opposing teams QB as well as shut down the run.
21. Cincinnati Bengals- Jermaine Gresham, TE, Oklahoma
The state of Oklahoma continues its fist rd dominance. Last season Bengals were an injury or two away from drafting season ticket holders to play TE. Grisham has the potential to be the big time playmaker the Bengals need to pair with senor ocho.
22. New England Patriots- Brandon Graham, DE/OLB, Michigan
the Patriots lacked a pass rush last year, and will look to make some improvements in that category with Graham. Graham is a fierce pass rusher who should have no problem boosting the Patriots sack and QB pressure total
23. Green Bay Packers- Bruce Cambell, OT, Maryland
The Pack receive a huge steal here as Cambell could conceivably go in the top 10. I debated sending Cambell to Houston as well as Atlanta. Rodgers has taken a lot of sacks the past couple of years, and while he is justly criticized for holding on to the ball to long, this selection should knock that number down a little bit.
24. Philadelphia Eagles- Sergio Kindle, DE, Texas
Texas is quietly having itself one hell of a representation in the first round. Kindle will team up with Cole to help the Eagles pass rush, and we all know how Reid loves to build up the lines.
25. Baltimore Ravens- Damian Williams, WR, USC
Flacco needs somebody anybody to throw the ball to. Williams is a big, quick, and agile WR who has the potential to develop in to a #1 WR in the NFL. Flacco is so happy he will attempt to jump the Delaware Water Gap in NJ!!
26. Arizona Cardinals- Brandon Spikes, LB, Florida
Spikes will replace Dansby in the middle of the AZ defense. The Cards could be looking at a rough year after the departure of Warner and Dansby. Hopefully for the Cards Spikes will be able to fill Dansby's shoes and keep the defense afloat.
27. Dallas Cowboys- Mike Iupati, OG, Idaho
Iupati is a perfect fit for the Cowboys. BIG, STRONG lineman who dominates at the point of contact. Would go at least ten spots higher if he can show that he can play on the outside. Solid pick up by the Cowboys.
28.San Diego Chargers, Jon Dwyer, RB, Georgia Tech
The Chargers just released LT and Sproles is a FA. Even if Sproles were to return he could not handle being an every down back. Look for the Chargers to select the big bodied Dwyer as their feature back for next season.
29. New York Jets- Golden Tate, WR, Notre Dame
The Jets can use some additional talent in their WR core. Tate provides a solid deep threat and will help out immediately in the return game as well.
30. Minnesota Vikings- Sean Witherspoon, LB, Missouri
Witherspoon will provide some youth and speed to the Vikings defense. He will help them out in numerous different areas and will help take their defense to the next level.
31. Indianapolis Colts- Terrence Cody, DT, Alabama
While Cody may have looked more like Free Willy then a DT at the Senior Bowl, nobody can deny the amount of potential that he has. Having Cody on the Dline will allow the speed rushers of the Colts to focus even more on their pass rush. I debated having Charles Rogers go here, but I think the Colts can grab some OL talent in the second.
32. New Orleans Saints- Maurkice Pouncey, OG/C, Florida
Pouncey provides some depth at G and C and has potential to become a very solid option in the middle of the Saints offensive line if needed.
Ticket Help
I am driving up for the A's Jays game on Sat from Upstate NY. It will be my first Jays game and I want to get good seats. Any one have any advice on where to get tickets from? I can not get them from Stubhub or Razorgator because the Jays do not do electronic ticketing and it is to close to game day.
I tried the Jays site, but the tickets that they have are usually in rows 20 or higher.
Thanks for the help
Stubhub Coupon codes???
Does anyone know any Stubhub coupon codes?? I am driving up to Toronto this weekend, and am going to see the Jays play our Oakland Athletics.
In addition has anyone ever been to the building formerly known as the Skydome???
any advice?
I guess I have to fill in the remaining 75 words.... Does anyone remember the shot Canseco hit their in the 89 World Series? I still have eleven more words left and really can not think of anything else to say. Thanks for all of the help.
Cano?
mlbtraderumors has a post up about the Yankees potentially shopping Cano. It states that they would be interested in starting pitching, or perhaps a CF. I know we have a lot of second base prospects coming up but Cano is under contract until 2013 including club options, and is a better hitter then just about anyone on our roster. Maybe could be moved to 3rd in the future (don't know).
If their is one thing we have a lot of it is pitching, and Outfielders. Maybe a Mazzarro+ package?
Nickname for Daric Barton
First post here....
I am nominating that we nickname him "Stretch", after his ridiculously absurd stretching ability at first. Every time he pulls that off I wince in pain.
Anyone else have any ideas... Mr. September... maybe?
