Little bit of silly fun
Umps Officlally Erred Lastnight, Kershaw Suspended for 5
Incase I'm the only one who subscribes to Shulman's blog, the details are within, but basically, there's a sub-rule to the 2-vist and out rule, and Mattingly should've been ejected, not Broxton. kershaw out for 5
Joe Angel Fail
Good lord he really is as bad as we thought.
OT: Housing Search
Hey Folks,
Figured since we're officially done with the 2008 Giants season, people wouldn't mind an OT post. Feel free to delete this if its a nuisance.
Basically, I'm in the market for a 1 bdr apartment in the City, but I'm willing to expand to certain parts of Oakland/Berkley as well. Anyone know of anything, or have any good tips to finding a good place to live? I know of craigslist and all the standards, but thought I'd check on the off chance any of you knew any specifics. Budget is around $1200.
Thanks everyone.
Looks like things might be Pretty OK after all
Down at the bottom - looks like we might have our favorite redneck back in some function or another.
Scott McClain: The Home Run King
After reading this story, I can honestly say I'd like to see him up with the giants.
I don't really have tangible reasons, I'd just love to see him play for us of Castle. Bad idea? Probably, but we're all allowed to have our wacky opinions.
Umpire suspended by MLB - MLB - Yahoo! Sports
I enjoy seeing this. Sweet sweet revenge.
This is pretty f'd
From the Chron today:
"John Bowker might have to put stuffed animals in his trophy case. The man who caught his first big-league homer in San Francisco refused to trade it back. Same with the woman who caught Bowker's first career grand slam Saturday. She told a Nationals official she would have to talk to her lawyer first. ... Randy Winn has hit safely in 31 of his last 36 games."
That's pretty dick. I can understand wanting something more than a bat, like maybe a jersey, but come on. And talking to your lawyer first? Thas fuxored.
Stat Search Question
Hello Fellow McCoven,
I have been trying to find the average runs scored in support of a picher per start. Unless I'm blind or misreading an abbreviation, I couldn't find it on baseball reference or baseball cube.
I've been engaged in an ongoing discussion with my father regarding the misuse of the W-L record and ERA, especially in regards to Zito. He's agreed to consider things, and has decided that runs scored in support of a pitcher might explain Zito's past success.
Any insights? Thanks,
Ok, this is too funny
Remember Cody Ransom?
"Aside from Betemit and A-Rod, there’s not another person on the Yankees’ active roster who can play shortstop. They could call up rookie Alberto Gonzalez, who is on the team’s 40-man roster, or Cody Ransom, who would require a roster move but bring more experience. Or, of course, they could put A-Rod at short and use Morgan Ensberg, a natural third baseman, to fill in."
Now that would be hilarious to see him starting at SS for the Yanks.

OT: I really like the band, and found this on youtube today. Just thought I'd share.
A Little Yahoo! loving for Cain
A few of their guys picked him as either dark horse cy young, or cy young in waiting. One even picked him for comeback of the year.

I love me some Matt Cain
Looks like he'll get an outside chance to do his job.
Blue Jays signed Armando to a minor league deal. Their GM says he won't get a shot at closing, though.

Thats so unfair to Accardo to have to pitch near him again :P

Dude got hit by a pitch on the hand - negative x-rays.

Do we breathe easier? Or will sabes look at his amazing track record...
Klesko done.
Here's a snipit from rotoworld:
Free agent Ryan Klesko told former teammate Chipper Jones that he's opted for retirement.
The Red Sox were believed to have some interest in Klesko before signing Sean Casey, but no one else had gone public with any desire to add him.
Source: Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Some Random Signings according to Rotoworld
Latroy Hawkins was signed by the Yankees
Gagne was signed by the Brewers
Milton Bradley was signed by the Rangers
These are all reported as 1 year deals.
The Nats made an offer for Khalil Green, but came up short. (damn, I would love to get that ass out of our division)
Also humerous: Jeff Fasero is apparently trying to un-retire.
I just had the strangest dream.
No joke, and it probably means I've been reading this site too much this week.
But in my dream I convinced the Toronto GM to trade Rios for Lowry, Sanchez and Lewis.
Did my dream self make a good trade? And yes, I know this probably isn't worth a diary. But its been a strange week.
Depth Chart
Anyone know who constructs/updates this, ie whether its an assumption by MLB, or the Giants actual plan?
http://sanfrancisco.giants.mlb.com/team/depth_chart/index.jsp?c_id=sf
If its their plan, I can't say that I'm terribly pleased about most of the outfield and 2b, and I'm rather surprised to see Alfonso below Rodriguez.
Anyway, just felt like thinking about some non-winter meetings stuff.
So who's going tonight?
Yeah, upon hearing last Friday's news, I decided to attend my first home finale in the Phone Booth Era.
I'm sitting up in 312.
Who else is going tonight, and how much better are your tickets than mine? :)
Candlestick and Comic Book Guy
If anyone posted this I just missed it, sorry...though I tend to check this site quite often and don't remember seeing it.
"The Fool" from the Chronicle wrote a fun article about Candlestick and the current state of the Giants.
Again, sorry if its been posted, but for anyone who hasn't read it, its totally worth it.
Ortmeier
So, I don't know a hell of a lot about players moving from one position to another. But Ortmeier is pretty tall and athletic, and seems like he could learn first pretty well.
I've seen that he's started there in Fresno once or twice (btw, I want to thank Steve for his daily updates. Truely great to have). Given our plethora of outfielders, could we make him into a starting 1b?
He hit decently when he was up earlier this year, would it be worth giving him a shot there if we don't re-sign Klesko?
Ot Goodness: I'm Moving back to SF
So, I've decided to part ways with Washington, DC. Its been a good six years, but its time to go on.
What I'm coming to realize is that although I was raised in SF, I left after high school, and have spent the majority of my time since in DC.
While I know a great deal about SF, the area I lack in is the social scene. Sure I know a little, but, well, not a hell of a lot.
So for a 24 year old who likes to have fun, anyone feel like giving me some tips?
Bear in mind that with one or two exceptions, I'll have to rebuild a friend base from scratch.
Thanks folks.
Just when I had reached the bottom
So I get home lastnight, long day at work, just want to relax. Come 10:15 (stupid east coast), I turn on the game, and within 5 min., well, rough first inning by Morris...
Sanchez Down...And I'm not understanding Bochy's thinking here...
Some excerpts from the official:
"As expected, the Giants optioned left-hander Jonathan Sanchez to Triple-A Fresno to clear roster room for right-hander Russ Ortiz, who was activated from the 15-day disabled list and joined the bullpen Monday."
"Manager Bruce Bochy said that Sanchez likely will pitch two or more innings of relief every two or three days to give the 24-year-old a chance to gain consistency, a regimen similar to one followed by Fresno left-hander Pat Misch."
"Bochy reiterated that although the organization still envisions Sanchez as a starter in the future, he'll likely remain a reliever this season."
Date to a Ballgame...
So, I'm going to the Baltimore v Boston game tonight. It'll be the first time I've gone to see a game specifically because the lady I'm interested in loves one of the teams (and they're not the Giants).
Anyone here have any funny/horror storries of something like this? Or of just dating a Red Sox fan in general?
Figured it could be worth a laugh.
I'm blatently reposting this story from the other blog I read...
But the guy who runs the Nats blog took the time to do an amazing summary of another Jackie Robinson-era integration story.
Figured some people around here might be interested.
Hello to all
Hi everyone. I just joined...I grew up as a SF Giants fan, but have lived in DC for a few years now, and love the game in general.
That being said, anyone feel like giving me a rundown of the way things are? Like, how's the farm system, who're good prospects, favorite/least favorite current nats, etc?
Thanks a bunch.
So, anyone participate in another team's Blog?
I live in DC, and catch a fair amount of Nats games. They're even worse than the giants, but do have some fun young hitting.
So, question is, would I be cheating on McC/Giants by participating in their blog? I'm unemployed, so need a steady streem of baseball info.
Advice/opinions welcome
We could be a LOT worse off..
So I just went to my first non-giants opening day ever, Nationals vs. Mariners. The D-train looked pretty good, and so did R. Zimmerman...
I need some help understanding something...
It seems people are worried about this year's team being as bad as last year's. But, Offensivly speaking...I'm not seeing it
