I was born and raised down here in central Illinois. I graduated from the University of Illinois in '99 and have been working at the UI since 2001. So, while I'm an Illini, I am definitely a HUGE Lions fan. I got hooked on Barry & the '91 Lions team back when I was a kid and grew up loving the Lions ever since. I loved Barry, the leapin' Lions logo, the uniforms, the Thanksgiving day tradition, Herman Moore, Robert Porcher, Chris Spielman, etc. etc. - I pretty much loved all those players from the 90's. We're obviously on hard times over the past decade, but no matter how much grief I suffer from everyone down here for being a Lions fan, I can't help it - I still love my Lions and always will. They've been my team for too long to turn back now, I wouldn't change a thing. Let's keep our fingers crossed and hope our new regime gets things going in the right direction.......Stafford to Johnson for the next decade baby!!

quick recap of my Lions Thanksgiving experience
Hey everyone - I just got back from my first ever Thanksgiving game and just wanted to give a quick post on something I did on Friday before I headed home. I decided to head on over to Allen Park to see the Lions headquarters since I'm always reading about Allen Park in the online articles, etc. and since I'm from out of state, I've never been to Allen Park. I got there and took a look around and was surprised to see that the front door to the reception area was actually open. I ended up going in and the head of security was sitting at the front desk filling in until the rest of the staff came in later in the day. We sat there for about an hour and a half talking, and he was giving me all kinds of stories of things he's seen, etc. in his 10 years that he's been with the team. It was pretty awesome - I obviously couldn't really look around the practice facility or anything since people were working, but I thought it was really cool that he was that friendly and took the time to make me feel so welcome. I even got to meet our punter Nick Harris who was heading out while I was there - he was really friendly and shook my hand and even gave me an autographed football card. Very worthwhile stop, very cool - just had to share it with you all since I knew you'd probably appreciate it
Also, after the game, I went over to the Corner Lounge in Ford Field to hear the 97.1 postgame show - got to meet Jon Jansen while I was there, he was doing the show w/ Fithian. Really nice guy, very friendly. Wasn't too many people there w/ it being Thanksgiving and all, but still was cool meeting Jansen.
Kid Rock was great at halftime too - had seats right on the 50 and had a perfect view of the halftime show., and I could see Phil Simms & the Rock when they were interviewing him right behind be too. pretty sweet. Overall, a great experience, even if we couldn't pull out the W. I'd highly recommend hitting a Thanksgiving game if you get a chance - I've been waiting for about 20 years to go to one since I was a kid, so it was great to finally make it to one. Plus, the Thanksgiving parade in the morning was awesome too, definitely worth seeing
Sorry for rambling just had to share my good times w/ all of my fellow PODers - later guys, happy Thanksgiving

Heading to Green Bay
Hey everyone - just wanted to check in, I'm heading to Green Bay this weekend for the first time to see our lovable Lions at Lambeau on Sunday. Has anyone ever been to Lambeau? Just curious what to expect......are the Green Bay fans ruthless? Any ideas on if there will be any Lions tailgates anywhere? Any cool places to eat? Just curious, if not, that's cool......I'm REALLY bummed that I won't be able to see our boy Stafford gunning it all around the field, but hopefully Best will come thru and play, and I'll see our boy Calvin and Suh. Who knows, maybe we'll break our 19 year Lambeau drought or whatever it's been :)
is it possible to buy copies of old games on DVD?
Hey guys - long time reader here, don't post much, but I have a question - I was sitting here watching Elway vs. Montana on my DVR today from that NFL Classic Games show on NFL Network, and it was bringing back some good memories. It made me really want to see some of our old Lions games again - the ones that come to the top of my head that I'd really like to see is the Monday nighter vs. the Cowgirls where Barry ran all over them, and the game vs. Tampa Bay where Barry went nuts for a couple of 80 yard runs. I'd LOVE to see those games again - I really feel like I could appreciate them more now given I'm older and know a little more about the game now than I did back in the day when I saw them the first time. The only Lions classic game I've seen on NFL Network is that damn game where Favre went to Sharpe for the dagger late to beat us - but I'd rather re-watch some of our classic wins
So, does anyone know if it's possible to buy copies of old NFL games like that on DVD or something? I doubt that it's possible, I can't seem to find anything, but just thought I'd throw it out here in case someone knows something I don't - I thought if anyone would know, my fellow PODers would know
Thanks guys.....can't wait for the season to start, we're getting closer every day
Umpires will be behind line of scrimmage now
Check this link out below, this is the first I've heard of this - sounds like umpires will be 12 yards behind the line of srimmage now instead of behind the DL. I didn't even know this was on the table. When I first saw the headline, two things popped in my head immediately - this could lead to more holding calls on the OL, and it could lead to more roughing the passer penalties, especially considering how sensitive they've been to the QBs recently. Once I started reading the article, they also mentioned that teams won't be able to use the umpire on "pick" plays anymore, and this will prevent QBs & WRs from having to avoid the umpire on pass routes, etc. which was another good point. What do you all think? Will this change be for the better or worse? I guess there are pros and cons each way - just thought this was interesting:

Trent Williams from OK at #2???
Hey - just saw from Zaroo's links on Mlive today (http://blog.mlive.com/highlightreel/2010/03/detroit_lions_links_draft_expe.html) that sporting news (see link below) is predicting that we take an OL at #2, and that it will be Trent Williams from Oklahoma over Okung. This was pretty shocking to me, this is the first I've heard of anyone other than Suh/McCoy/Okung/Berry mentioned to be in the mix for the #2 pick. Does anyone know anything about this guy?? They said he's more athletic than Okung, just not sure if this is crazy speculation for an article or if this is legit - thanks for the feedback

Suh's agent & draft impact
I just read tonight that Suh hired Parker as his agent, who is the same agent that Crabtree hired last year and who helped orchestrate his holdout, threats of holding out all year, etc. So, this got me thinking - how much weight should we give to who a player hires as an agent when considering who to draft? Last year, we had the #1 pick, so we had the luxury of getting Stafford signed before Goodell even called his name on draft day. And I realize that if the Rams sign their pick early, then we can start to do the same and get our pick signed, but if the Rams don't have an early signing and we're on the clock w/ Suh on the board, should we be a little scared of the fact that he's hired a hardball agent who may play games w/ us and advise Suh to holdout? I realize in the long-term scheme of things a holdout may not be that big of a deal, but just wanted to bounce this off of some of my fellow POD'ers for their take - thanks for the input, looking forward to hearing your opinions
Cool Places to Visit in Detroit?
Hey guys - I'm a diehard Lions fan from down here in IL, and we're driving up for the home opener vs. the Vikings this year - can't wait. Just curious if anyone has any good suggestions of cool places to visit while we're there? I've been to Ford Field one other time about 2 years ago (when we scored 34 against the Bears in the 4th quarter - was a great game and an awesome time), and we hit the Ford Museum and the Hard Rock on that trip. Just wondered if any of you native Detroiters had any good suggestions on places to tailgate, cool places to watch the late games, etc. Any suggestions would be much appreciated - thanks guys, can't wait to get up there and be around some other diehard Lions fans
Tavaris Jackson to Lions??
Check this link out - Yahoo is saying that our Lions might be trading a low draft choice for Tavaris Jackson. At first, this didn't make sense to me - but do you think Mayhew is thinking of doing this so we can cut Culpepper and avoid his bonus that he would earn if he made the opening day roster, and then use Tavaris as a backup w/ Stanton and start Stafford right away? Just thought this was interesting, wanted to throw it out there to see what everyone thought of this:
