Viva El Birdos Create Your Own Player - Update 1!!

Welcome to the first update of the Create Your Own Player - Season. I originally planned on simming through 1 in game month per week, but because that would take way too long to sim out your players careers, i'll do half an ingame season per week. This week, because it involved the initial draft of your players, I simmed from June 1st, 2007 (Draft Day) to the end of the Major League Season. The next update will go from the beginning of 08 Spring Training to the 08 All Star Break.

I'll post an update once a week on Sunday.

If anyone just reading this for the first time wants to get involved, post here, and you'll be on the waiting list for the next time I allow new player made draftees.

Viva El Birdos Create Your Own Player - Season 1

Inspired by something i've seen on an NHL forum I frequent I thought I would give this a try.

Using the Baseball Sim "Out Of The Park Baseball 8", I will allow the first 15 people to post here to create their own player (using the guidelines I will provide later in the fanpost) and then I will place that player as an 19 Year Old in the MLB First Year Player Draft and then once a week (in real life) I will sim through a month of the game and post the stats and happenings involving each player on this fan post (including who you were drafted by in the first week). If this works well, and people enjoy it, i'll gradually allow more people to sign up at the start of a new season. The first season starts at the beginning of the 2007 season (so, for instance, players like David Eckstein and Scott Rolen are still on the Cardinals). Also, while OOTP8 is pretty good about realism, it's not perfect and sometimes the ingame Managers / GM make some pretty crazy moves.

SIGN UP FOR SEASON 1 IS OVER, FIRST UPDATE TO COME SOON

Viva El Birdos Mozeliak the new GM

Press Conference at 3pm.

This is per Bernie.

This freaking stinks. He isn't bad I suppose, but I thought Antonetti would be a step in the right direction for this organization.

Oh well, here's hoping Mo will prove me wrong.

Update [2007-10-31 13:10:56 by lboros]: mozeliak has some talent, and he might work out just fine --- it's too soon to say what he will do. he deserves a chance. but the troubling thing is that the cardinals wanted antonetti, and he turned them down. that's inauspicious, to say the least.

Update [2007-10-31 13:34:12 by lboros]: rec'd this e-mail from a source outside of st louis: "Shapiro might be stepping to CEO to give Antonetti the reigns. It's more about CLE than STL."

Viva El Birdos Pujols will participate in the HR Derby...

According to Derrick Goold. Normally i'd be against it, but let's face it, Pujols is already missing his homerun stroke, I doubt this will hurt it any more.

Viva El Birdos The Apocalypse is upon us....

Bo Hart.....has joined the Cubs. 65 Year Old Women all over Cardinal nation shed a tear today.

-------------------------
Second baseman Bo Hart has been picked up by the Cubs and assigned to their Triple-A affiliate in Iowa. In 32 games with the Barnstormers, Hart batted .245 with two homers and 12 RBIs. He's the first Lancaster player signed by an affiliate team this season.

Viva El Birdos Zambrano wants to be a Cardinal...

Ok, maybe not, but this was pretty funny/interesting  from a recent article.

--------------------------
Zambrano changing colors?
Pitcher jests about red shinguards from 'my next catcher'
By Paul Sullivan
Tribune staff reporter

June 14, 2007, 10:44 PM CDT

Mark Buehrle still gets heat for wearing a St. Louis Cardinals cap at a World Series game last October, but Carlos Zambrano one-upped Buehrle before Thursday's Cubs game.

Zambrano motioned to reporters standing around the clubhouse and pointed to a box that contained a pair of red shinguards.

"It's a gift from my next catcher, Yadier," Zambrano said.

Zambrano was referring to St. Louis catcher Yadier Molina, although he didn't specify whether he was going to St. Louis or Molina was coming to the Cubs.

Viva El Birdos Cards made a 3/45 offer to Pettite....

and he turned it down, because he wouldn't sign with the Astros rivals. Damn him and his loyalty.

Viva El Birdos Cheap Owners = No Allstar Game in 2k9

The MLB Writers Association have decided to withhold allowing the All-star game to take place in St. Louis in 2009, stating the stadium is not fit to hold the event. Apparently their main beef was with the press box, which apparently is exposed, has no air conditioning or heating, and doesn't have a great view of the field. Therefore Dewitt and Co. will get a list of things they will have to improve in order for the Allstar Game to get reinstated back here for 2009.

Viva El Birdos Izzy is out for the season - official

Well, atleast it is official according to Bernie, per his forums:

Pitching coach says he doesn't think Izzy will pitch anymore this season.

Izzy and the brass confirm...

Viva El Birdos Strat-o-matic

Can someone please explain what this is to me? I've looked it up, and I understand it's simulated baseball, but how exactly do you go about playing it?

Anyone who knows alot about it and can offer me some incite on it (i.e. leagues/how to get it/etc....), it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!!!!

Viva El Birdos This offseason...

I have faith in the Cardinals making some good trades/acquisitions. Maybe i'm a blind homer, but I really think all the negative press that management and the team have received this year, will force their hand. Do I think we'll sign Schmidt or Zito? No. But I do believe we will make some solid steps to fortify this team for 2007.

I'm probably just being overly optimistic, but I have faith. Last year had a poor FA crop, and their truly were very few reasonable deals we could've made at the trade deadline this year. This off season will be the test of the management.

Viva El Birdos Duncan on Bernies talk show...

Brief recap per Bernie's forum

Duncan:

  • Mulder to rehab for Memphis @ Oklahoma City on Thursday night.
  • Mulder had a great warm-up Friday, best he'd felt, was fired up...maybe a little too pumped.... got him out of whack mechanically.
  • as far as a shakeup: we factor in that Mulder will be coming back back to rotation... but don't view it as a cure-all.... only way it's a plus is if other starters are doing their jobs better ... each individual starter - analyzing them now, what they aren't doing, what they need to do to be effective....have not done it consistently... a battle for the pitchers and for duncan to get them to execute better and become more consistent.... look at something more extreme: do they have anyone else to put in rotation who would be better than what they have now?
  • wainwright, sosa as starters? would have to have extra support for them in the bullpen because they are limited in how many pitches they can throw.... it's risky also if there are others who aren't going deep into games (like weaver, reyes -- my words, not his)... then bullpen is really stressed.
  • contract status? how much of a distraction? "very well could be," he said, adding that it's nothing physically wrong with them.
  • Marquis has been an enigma... gets you excited, thinks he's turning it around, then he goes backwards.... trying again to convince him to keep the game simple....when he does that, he's effective. marquis follows Bennett's lead better... Marquis more inclined to shake off Molina than Bennett...
  • weaver ... not the point where we want him to be... but he's getting better.... arm slot was down.... movement to plate wasn't aligned real well... gotten delivery better.... working hard to make corrections. "I've seen a real improvement in his stuff" ... velocity up, more bite to breaking balls....wants him to throw cut fastballs in on RH more.
  • Reyes developing as a pitcher .... needs to be more versatile... recognzing when he needs to be more of fastball pitcher than a breaking ball pitcher and vice versa.... at his best when he speeds the bats up then messes them up with breaking ball change up.... reyes likes to throw the 4-seam fastball, so why alter that? duncan says the strength of ML hitters is up in the strike zone.... so that's why they have tried to get him to pitch lower in the strike zone... and it's easier to get a 2-seam fastball lower in the strike zone... he wants Reyes to use both -- and insists he won't be able to always pitch up in the zone, so they want to encourage him to diversify.... says Reyes is working on a cut fastball, to try to get some quicker outs.
  • on Chris Duncan -- he's an adult... has his own life... doesn't interfere, because McRae is doing such a good job with him... but he encourages him to always be ready to play and always to play hard... "fun and exciting for me to watch him," ... because he's proud of CD's professionalism and way he approaches playing the game."
