Bowl Speculation
Though our interim fearless leader made some references to El Paso, possibly meaning a date in the Sun Bowl, SI's own Stewart Mandel says we may very well likely face:
Let that marinate for a little bit.
This about sums up my feelings for this team.
Just a Little Something to Focus Our Attention
Well, we aren't apt to go over the top here on the 7th Floor. We tend to keep things low key and go about our business while keeping to ourselves...Who the hell am I kidding. I dropped off the face of the earth for 3 months, TGB is traipsing around with models, and Lt. Winslow has made a valiant comeback to the internet.
Are we perfect? No. Are we passionate? Yes. Are we sober? HA. But sometimes we need something more than the regular cafe cubano or columbian marching powder to focus our attention. When that happens, we turn to...
LeBatard Just Said Miami Herald Breaking Bad Story...
Dan LeBatard just said on his radio show that the Miami Herald is going to be breaking a bad story on the Hurricanes in the next few hours...Everyone pray to your god.
Religious Warfare
So by the way the 2012 schedule rumors are working, the Canes are going to playing Alabama to start the season, and then, sometime, play Notre Dame at Soldier Field. We don't need home games anyway...
RANDY SHANNON DICK EXTENSION!!!!!!
Wait - I mean he got a 4 year CONTRACT extension (with no details). Sorry for the misunderstanding.
Look Happy Randy!
(via the illustrious Holly Anderson and Tim Reynolds)
So Do You Want to Play Alabama to Open the 2012 Season?
Some rumors are flying around that Alabama and the U may play in the near future. In Atlanta. To open the 2012 season. It would be a season kick-off game, with both 'Bama and the U raking in a cool $2.25 million each. Hocutt's game, but will Saban be?
I got double scooped on this by (1) Matt Hinton (aka Dr. Saturday), and (2) Barry Jackson at the Herald. But who's the only one to bring it to you with: A POLL!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hurricane Draft Recap and Rookie Free Agent Signings - UPDATED 2
I'm sure all of you know by now that Jimmy went to the Saints to party with Shockey and Buck Ortega (Yeah, he's still in the league and listed as a TE), and Sharpton's making the trip to Texans. But what else happened?
Canes You Have Known and Loved: Aaron Moser
Welcome back to the "This is Your Life" for former Hurricanes. After taking an informal poll of all my fans, I took some time to waste a bunch of time on the internet thoroughly research some the candidates and finally decided that there was only one option for this, another special teams maven:
Fan favorite and special teams maverick, Aaron Moser
Where Have All the Hurricanes Gone?
The off-season couldn't possibly be more boring right now, could it? (Watch our boys run! See Randy Shannon glare at people! Stalk Jacory Harris! Run from Allen Bailey!!) So to brighten up your day I'm reaching out for input on my "Canes You Have Known and Loved" series.

All Moneyshots
One giant post. All pictures and captions. Autograph signing, warm-ups, game, NFL Canes, fans, you name it and I made Dan take pictures of it. Click to make them supersized. Let me start you off right:
Possibly the 3rd sign of the Apocalypse.

Offensive Explosion! (Or, How the Spring Game Skewed Perceptions)
I had the good fortune to grab a front row seat at the pathetic quaint Traz Powell Stadium on Saturday to watch the Hurricanes go at it during the annual Spring Game. And while I stayed through the bitter end and made sure my photographer got all the moneyshots, I couldn't do a proper "post-game" round up like Manny and Shandel (OFFENSE!!! SCORING!!! BAD DEFENSE!!!), so you get to re-live the hype now.
So what do I make of what I saw?
NOTE, YOU CAN CLICK EVERY PICTURE IN THIS POST FOR A FULLSCREEN VIEW, BECAUSE DAN, MY PHOTOGRAPHER, IS A BADASS).
Well, there's good and bad.

Spring Game Post Delayed - Technical Difficulties
Having problems/delays uploading the pictures (think close b/w 60-80 depending on which ones I post) so as I beat the IT people to fix my issues, a little something to tide you over:
Lamar Miller on one of his last runs before he left with what I thought was a dislocated shoulder at the time, and tweeted as such, but which may only be a separation.

FIU RB Kendall Berry Stabbed to Death on Campus
FIU Running back Kendall Berry was stabbed to death on the FIU campus last night. Let's hope the police do a better job than they did with Bryan Pata.
This is why you follow Uncle Luke on Twitter
Jimmy Graham is the Best TE EVER!!!! (or how the Canes did at the NFL Combine)
I know, another combine post from me, but this time it's our boys trying to go to the NFL. TGB's been stalking Jimmy Graham, but I wanted to give some info on the other Canes who took the trip to Indianapolis.
I. The Canes Invited to the Combine
New Baby Cane(Partial Confirmation) - UPDATED
As pointed out in the comments and upon my own confirmation, SI is reporting the Canes just landed the 15th ranked player in the nation (Rivals) and the #2 DB in the Country with Latwan Anderson. He (allegedly) picked us over WVU.
Hurricane Baseball Starts 5-0
Sixth game today at the Light - bundle up and go support the boys! First pitch at 1pm vs. the Manhattan Jaspers. I don't know what the hell a Jasper is either.
Under Armour Combine Wrap-Up: Better Late Than Never
Ok, so I lied when I said I was going to do three posts on the Under Armour Combine. I really meant two. After sifting through all the stats and info I stacked up I thought, more is not always better, especially with Spring Practice under way and how well my last Combine report went over. Let's get right to the good stuff.
The Southridge Boys
I had a nice chat with Southridge head coach Pat Burrows, who was helping run the bench press station. You know a head coach thinks highly of his players when he starts talking them up to you even after you let him in on the secret that you're a blogger and not a scouting company rep.
Under Armour Combine: General Information and Interesting Occurrences
This is going to be the first of three posts this week recapping the Under Armour 2011 Recruiting Combine that took place this past Sunday at the Dolphins' Training Facility. This first post is going to be general information about what exactly happened, how many recruits were there, and other interesting information. The posts later this week will focus on the top performers (in MY totally unreliable viewpoint), some interviews I had with the guys, parents, coaches, combine results, and what the boys had to say about the Canes.
(This is going to be written as a Q&A, with myself, so go ahead and read the questions out loud, it will feel interactive, and possibly make you care about what I'm saying. Feel free to add expletives as you ask the questions and imagine how my responses would change. If you just want combine results, you're not getting it today. I'm using a crappy radio tease technique to make sure you come back later this week.)
What Was the Combine?
This was the culmination of a 3 day event that was put on by Under Armour. Friday was a coaches' conference (lectures), Saturday was skills training for players (though not all players), and Sunday was the Combine itself. Think of it as the NFL Combine minus the Wonderlic. It also had the pasty-white sports reporters, cameramen, and ESPN wandering around in common with the NFL Draft.
Warning: Under Armour 2011 Miami Combine Stories Forthcoming
I had the opportunity to spend about 5 hours today at the Under Armour Combine for the 2011 signing classes (the current high school juniors), taking pictures, interviewing some of the recruits, and watching them showcase their athletic skills.
Just a taste of what I'm going to be posting:
Injured Players, Ballers Lose, But At Least Baseball Starts Friday!
(1) Spring Practice starts next week. And wait until you see who won't be there AT ALL during the Spring:
New Series: Canes You Have Known and Loved
Let me introduce a series of posts that are going to act a bit like a "This Is Your Life" of former Hurricane football players. Notice that I didn't say "football greats," because let's face it, all of you know where the Hurricane greats are: in the NFL, in a TV studio, or in jail/court (sadly).
This series is going to relive the memorable yet forgettable (wrap your mind around that) players that may have slipped your mind since they graced the field. So, without anymore useless chatter, let me introduce someone very special:
Take THAT Mario Cristobal!
We just stole your Running Backs Coach and Recruiting Coordinator, Mr. Mike Cassano.
I guess it serves you right, Mario, considering you originally stole him from us (he was a UM grad assistant). But the allure of coaching under former boss Mark Whipple was too much for Cassano. But wait, was it Mark Whipple who helped steal your Running Backs coach, or was it the other Whipple?
Congratulations on re-joining the family Coach Cassano.
(Also, if anyone says Soldinger, TGB's banhammer is still in effect.)
Hurricanes' Superbowl Performance
It feels like we were under-represented, but we made up for it with negative media coverage this week. (McKinnie, Irvin, Sapp).
Offense
Jeremy Shockey: 3 catches for 13 yards, 1 TD. Targeted 4 times. $1,000,000 to stripper tonight.
