#phillies sign willy taveras. doesnt sound like a way to solve offensive woes to me

Via Jon Heyman

Obviously it's not supposed to solve any offensive woes. I don't know about this, though. Taveras has been pretty terrible, but maybe he's still better than Gload?

Lighter news in the wake of Madson's broken toe. As always, well done by The Onion

Minor league contracts for each. If Blanton sees any time out I wouldn't be completely surprised to see Kendrick move to the rotation and Fogg used as a long man/mop up type.

Domonic Brown checks in at 15, while Philippe Aumont makes the cut at 93.

Former Phillies Farmhands Kyle Drabek (25), Michael Taylor (29), Jason Knapp (64) and Travis D'Arnaud (81) also appear.

Zolecki and Salisbury are quiet on details, but rumor has it it's for $22 million. The deal will be announced tomorrow.

Two down, one to go.

They got Herndon from the Angels, who picked him in the sixth round in 2006. They also lost RHP Carlos Monasterios to the Mets.

So what do we know about Herndon?

One less bullpen arm for the Phils. Unconfirmed reports are saying it's for three years. If that's true, I'm kinda glad the Phillies didn't go there.

I'm not sure that AOL Fanhouse writers are the most reliable, but let's assume for a second this is true. Is this even remotely a good idea? I understand he's due a raise and all, but I'd have to think that there's no way Amaro would trade a relatively cheap, durable MOR starter.

Not very exciting I know, but it's the first real nibble of the offseason. He'd replace Bruntlett as the utility infielder.

Don't know who captured this, but someone obviously forgot NLDS Game 4.

Gentlemen, J-Roll would like a word with you.

A good writeup by Joe Posnanski about the whole Ibanez/steroids mess, complete with the best Ibanez defense I've heard yet.

It's even better because the writer seems to keep a level head about both sides and doesn't degenerate into soapbox polemic. Great piece.
