Latest OSU verbal Noa Aluesi, Jefferson HS (Portland), DE.
Sounds like he'll go on his Mormon mission first, which sucks, but he's quite the prospect. Raw, athletic and huge (6'8!).

It can happen.
GO BEAVERS!
How many ducks does it take to put one guy's shoe back on?
On a semi-serious note, let's ALL (Beavers and ducks) do our best to pace ourselves this weekend, steer clear of the 4 Loko and drink like grownups.
New WR Recruit: 4-star Brandin Cooks
BSU's Winston Venable suspended by WAC for hit on James Rodgers
From the release: "Venable should have been ejected for the third-quarter hit because it was a flagrant personal foul, Benson said. The officials didn’t throw a flag, but Benson said they might not have been looking at the hit because it was not on the ball carrier."
Hope James is feeling better and that Venable learns a lesson here.
GO BEAVERS!
EDSBS' Take on Thomas' Naked Three-Point Stance
Come on. You knew this was coming, right?
RS Frosh O-Line Reserve Tyler Thomas Kicked Off Team
The details on this incident aren't too pretty. Let's just hope the next chapter of this kid's life is more productive... and doesn't include tasers.
Thomas, 19, of Kalispell, Mont., was arrested Sunday morning.
According to information from the Corvallis Police Department, at about 4:51 a.m., police were called to 519 N.W. 14th Street after a 32-year-old woman reported there was a naked man in the upstairs office of her residence.
When officers arrived, they ordered him to get on the ground several times, but he refused.
Then Thomas, who had reportedly been drinking, got into a "three-point stance" and lunged at the officers, who Tased him.
Thomas did not face charges involving drinking, but was booked and released on charges of on charges of first-degree criminal trespass, second-degree criminal mischief and resisting arrest.
The Dam News 8/16
We're so close to football time.
So close.
- ESPN picks three games involving the Beavers for its Top 20 Games of the 2010 Season list. Also up on the site is a quick look at OSU's red zone success last year, Quizz's Heisman hopes, Oregon State's title hopes, plus a list ranking small running backs, including--you guessed it--Jacquizz Rodgers... at number 2?
- Heading into week one against TCU, here's a quick check of the pulse on TCU's defense. (Either their offense is really humming along or that defense is going to be forgiving for a first time starter in Katz.)
The Dam News 8/6
Just a few more weeks, friends. A few more weeks and it'll be almost a full year before the name "Phil Steele" is relevant again. Can't. Friggin'. Wait.
- The Oregonian/OregonLive has stepped up with a slew of Beaver content over the past 72 hours. Lots and lots of new stuff. If you haven't been doing so, check out their All Decade Team, starting with the most recently posted position, Linebacker. While I can't say he was necessarily the "best" linebacker we had at OSU, I've got to go with Derrick Doggett. Athletic, fast, aggressive and played all over the place. What, you don't agree?
- The Oregonian's Jim Beseda runs down a bunch of Beaver-related news. So if you want to see what The Dam News would look like if someone was getting paid to do it, look here. And while you're there, check out this piece on the sparkling academic standing of OSU's men's basketball team. If you need some additional basketball news, Dime Magazine previews the most valuable players in the PAC 10, which includes our own Calvin Haynes.
- The Beavers show up at number 22 in the USA Today top 25, released today. With the ducks at number 11, the Oregon schools are the only two representatives from the PAC 10. Weird, huh? Coaches also voted in OSU opponents Boise State (fifth) and TCU (seventh).
The Dam News 8/3
Just over a month (33 days by my count) until kickoff...
- If you haven't watched it yet, a new guy by the name of Esh dropped his homemade Jacquizz Rodgers for Heisman video over in FanPosts this week. It's 7ish minutes of Quizz running the rock. Can't go wrong there.
- The Oregonian continues it's all decade team poll series, this time with the defensive end and defensive tackle positions. At tackle I had to pick Dwan Edwards. Stephen Paea is going to surpass him, but I just think it jinxes things to vote a guy whose career hasn't ended yet onto an all decade team. At end? Well, like yesterday, I will answer in video (albeit a grainy, horrible, non-HD video) form:

Waiting for football season is hard. Really, really hard. Luckily, there's a lot of stuff on the internet to help you pass the time.
"Quick! Wulff just went into Aeropostale to get himself a fitted t-shirt, let's snap this picture ASAP!"
via a.espncdn.com
- ESPN PAC 10 Blogfather Ted Miller posted a pretty cool first person account of his time with the PAC 10's coaches. This one will have NW PAC 10 fans pulling their hair out. Apparently Riley and Kelly are cool with each other, Sark and Kelly are BFFs and, well, Paul Wulf apparently missed out on the photo op that made the College Football front page for ESPN.com. Apparently, you can coug a photograph.
- Aaron Fentress at The Oregonian has put together a pretty entertaining series of polls for the All-Decade teams for both PAC 10 schools from the State of Oregon. Today, he features a position that Oregon State has seen some great ones at: Running Back. My vote? I'll give you my answer in video form...
The Dam News 7/23
August.
The worst month ever. Pretty much the only thing standing between me and football season right now.
Damn you, August.
Onto the links!
- Random News Link: A bar in Austin, TX has received orders from the Collegiate Licensing Company to stop using their logo... which looks exactly like the classic version of the Benny Beaver logo, sailor hat and all. The article refers to the resemblance as "eerily similar"... you be the judge:
Yeah. Right. That's just freaking eerie. I'll admit, the Longbranch Inn's beaver looks like it's had way more to drink than ours.
The Dam News 7/22
Let me start with some personal news: Pulled the trigger on some season tickets for this upcoming season. Very excited. Great home slate.
Now for some more relevant stuff...
- The Portland Tribune has a good interview with Ryan Katz. I think most people will agree with me when I say I'm equal parts nervous and excited about his debut in Texas. Loved to see this though:
"Our plan is to start the season off with a bang," Katz says. "We’re going to look to start strong and finish strong. It’s going to be a good year."
- The usually entertaining Ted Miller doesn't disappoint with his Oregon State edition of the "Best Case-Worst Case" series. In a time where there's little or no news, this kind of fun reading helps steady my nerves. There was one part in particular that I liked from the Best Case summary...
Rodgers. Touchdown. Rose Bowl. Pandemonium in Reser Stadium.
Miller also evaluates the PAC 10 QB position headed into the season.
- Cliff K of the Gazette Times had a great update yesterday, including a two part series on the 2009 season posted to his blog. Check it out, good stuff as always. Here's part one:
- And as noted yesterday, the Huskies sure are feeling themselves. SBN blogger John Berkowitz thinks that the Huskies have what it takes to beat the Beavers this year. Outside of an improved group of recruits coming in and a new coach, I don't know what makes the Huskies (or Jake Locker, for that matter) such a dramatically improved team coming into the season, but who knows. I don't quite care what they do in the rest of their season, so long as the guys in orange make it SEVEN in a row.
Did I miss something? Put it in the comments. And GO BEAVERS!
The Dam News
I almost called this post "Beaver Links." I said it out loud and immediately had second thoughts. Those second thoughts were of sausage links, made from beaver meat, which I can only imagine DOES NOT taste just-like-chicken. "Beaver Links," would probably be the worst tasting sausages ever, so here's hoping the people at Hormel or Jimmy Dean--certainly not Reser--aren't developing this product as we speak. Anyway, there's some news...
- Heisman candidate Jacquizz Rodgers sat down for a pretty cool interview.
- Recruiting updates from Cliff Kirkpatrick are one of the most useful things out there on the internet. Except maybe BtD itself... but anyway, lots of news in what was a busy week for Beaver football recruiting. Side note: Very happy we're getting another RB from Texas... one named Storm Woods. How's that for a football name?
Hi, I'm Storm Woods. I like taking long walks on the beach, eating up defenses and scoring touchdowns.
Congrats, BIG "12"!
And It's Official: Colorado Joins the Family
So now we wait for the other shoe to drop.
Pac-10 Wrestling Champ Colby Covington Cited for 4th Degree Assault
Another "second chance" athlete at OSU in trouble.
Embarrassing.
The parallels between Covington and Lalich are uncanny. The two stories make me wonder if it's really worth gambling on a young guy trying to get his life back together. (If you didn't know, Colby had alcohol related issues at his past school, Iowa. A highly touted JC wrestler, he returned home to Oregon after being booted.) The success stories of these cases are unnoticeable and, while great, still fly under the radar.
On the other end of the spectrum, the crap floats to the top. Does the athletic department really want to continue with the whole rehab center function? Let these kids find opportunities elsewhere is all I'm saying.
And let's hope Shiloah Te'o (BYU transfer, dismissed over DUII charge) is paying attention. And let's hope that Covington isn't guilty.
Not exactly what I'd call a shocker, but Wagner has been FIRED
Cal got this up first, but I figured it needed some front page love. I think we can all safely say that we could all see this coming, right?
Recent reports in The Oregonian painted Wagner as pretty much the worst coach ever and the last woman you'd want to entrust with your daughter for four years.
Glad to have her out and anxious to see who fills her now vacant position! GO BEAVERS
Beavers Win Baseball Civil War
I'm a little surprised to see the lack of chatter on here last night. I mean what, did everyone suddenly get social lives or something?! I mean, it's not like ALL of us were voted Mr. Bowman (Jake) and now have a calendar full of exciting social obligations! Come one people. Let's check out of the real world and check on to Building The Dam!
In case you weren't at the game, watching the game on TV or listening on AM or FM frequencies, the Beavers improved to 4-1 on the year against the #21 Ducks, beating them 2-1 at PGE Park. It's a shame we'll never see baseball downtown again as we make way for Minor Major League Soccer and the "upgrades" that will allegedly come with it.
The GT has their rundown, as does The Oregonian, The RG and The Statesman. Another tight one run game and a win that Oregon State needed to keep post season hopes alive. Oh, and Pat Casey got tossed...

With the final series of the regular season ahead, what are you thoughts? Put 'em in the comments with any interesting links you might have. GO BEAVERS!
Former Beaver Robbie Findley Makes Final Cut for World Cup
Findley, of the MLS' Real Salt Lake, is one of four forwards selected to the final roster. Pretty cool! Go Beavs and GO U.S.A.!
Katz OSU's "Hero" of Spring
Ted Miller had this posted on his blog today. Here's a quick quote (from a Bruce Feldman article):
"Short of Ryan Mallett, I haven't seen another QB playing in college right now with a stronger arm."
What do you know about this Eric Moreland kid?
How's it going?
So as I'm sure you all know, Eric Moreland left UTEP after Barbee's exit and has curiously enough wound up here at Oregon State.
Anyway, I've looked online for a little information on Moreland and can't find much, other than a random YouTube workout video and some other blurbs here and there about his length, athleticism, etc.
What can you guys tell us about this kid? Has anyone watched him play? Partied with him Juarez? Helped him steal a golf cart? Taken a test for him under his identity? Would love to know. Hopefully we're all cool after the CBI. If it's any consolation, we played in it again last year and got smoked in the first round... by Boston University... sigh.
Also, do you think he could grow into one of these:
Go Miners! (But mainly GO BEAVERS)
Former UTEP Commit Eric Moreland Now a Beaver
From The Oregonian: The Beavers have added another player to their roster, but 6-9 forward Eric Moreland - who was at UTEP for just a few months last season - may have to sit out a year because of Division I transfer rules.
Moreland has signed a financial aid agreement with Oregon State, after getting interest from schools in the Big 12 and also Oregon, where new coach Dana Altman is taking over for Ernie Kent.
Devon Collier and Ahmad Starks square off in this cross-country match up. The future at Gill looks bright, friends.
ESPN's Ted Miller gives his take on OSU/UO legal problems
Great take from an unbiased party.
Former Beaver Robbie Findley Named to US World Cup Sqaud
Good news is NICE. Even if you don't like soccer you have to love the World Cup (very cool event) and the fact that a Beav will be participating. GO BEAVERS!
Golf Cart Gate Settled In Court--Now It's Riley's Turn
via img.timeinc.net
The official judgement on the OSU golf cart scandal has been passed down. All parties are being held accountable financially and have been put on probation with community service.
Lyle Moevao will serve 40 hours of community service, Keaton Kristick 25, and Brennan Olander 65. Moevao will also pay $750 restitution for damages to the cart, and Kristick and Olander will pay their share back to Moevao.
All three originally faced and plead innocent to felony charges, then plead guilty to reduced charges, though Moevao maintains that he found the golf cart near the apartment complex, and was not the person who took it.
Moevao received 12 months probation, and Kristick 10 months probation.
In part because of prior convictions, in 2009 involving possession of a stolen bike, and in 2006 for criminal mischief, Olander also received 12 months probation.
Read more about it here from The Oregonian,
The Gazette-Times or keep track of the Beavs recent surge in EDSBS's Fulmer Cup!
"You each know you are in the public eye,'' Benton County Circuit Judge Locke A. Williams told the three. "You are somewhat held to a higher standard, at least in the view of the public. People look up to you. You have a responsibility to live up to that higher expectation.''
Williams said the whole episode could have been seen as "a simple college prank'' had the cart been returned, and probably, no one would have found out, because the athletic department was probably unlikely to press the issue.
“I didn’t mean to harm anyone or violate any rules or regulations,’’ Moevao said in court. “It was a night we were trying to have some fun, and obviously, it was the wrong kind of fun. I made a dumb mistake.’’
What do you think? Does the punishment fit the crime? What do you expect Riley and Co. to do?
