I can't wait for Saturday. After wandering over to UW Dawg Pound, I'm no longer hoping that the Beavers merely beat the Huskies. I want them to crush and humiliate the Huskies. The general feeling over there is that the Beavers simply aren't on the Husky-fan "radar" after five straight wins (not to mention six wins in the last eight meetings) and that we're still the lovable loser to their own (and I'm using their words here) "top notch program." Yeah, seriously. I find this surprising because all Husky fans I know do not feel this way about OSU.

Ted Miller has his PAC 10 picks in for this weekend. According to Ted, Beavs hang forty on the the dawgs in a win.

Miller also says Canfield v. UW Secondary is a key matchup this weekend.

Cool write up on some Beaver fans in the armed forces that are currently deployed but trying to keep up with Beaver football.

Gazette Times write up on OSU receiving corps. What a pleasant surprise this young unit has been.

Chicago point guard Ahmad Starks makes it official and signs with OSU. He's the 25th ranked PG in his class. I'll say if coach Robinson plans on leaving anytime soon, he'll be leaving the cupboard stocked for the next guy, that's for sure.

JOE HALAHUNI. And MORE HALAHUNI. If you can't tell, I'm really happy we've found a TE with his kind of abilities in the open field. Brady Camp is a great blocker, John Reese and Howard Croom are good combo guys but Halahuni is an explosive offensive weapon. Love to watch this kid play.

Bleacher Report asks if the Huskies can shake their road woes this weekend. I think/hope the answer is a resounding NO.

This ran yesterday, but Keaton Kristick talks about his last game at Reser. I think I speak for all of us when I say I'll miss seeing this kid take the field in black and orange. Good luck to all of the seniors in whatever is up next in life.

I feel deeply sorry for anyone who doesn't have tomorrow off. My cold symptoms have subsided and now it's time for some weekend style going out on Tuesday night. I plan on having fun. And being out late. It's going to be fantastic. Now if five o'clock can just hurry up and come, I can get down to brass tacks-and by brass tacks, I mean beers.

Congrats to a sport that gets very little love on BtD (or anywhere outside of University of Portland fan pages)- Women's soccer secured an at-large bid in the NCAA tournament. They'll head to Columbus, Ohio to play "The" Ohio State University (not to be confused with "That" Ohio State University or "A" Ohio State University, which is actually a barber college).

On the subject of women's collegiate soccer, I hope you've seen the University of New Mexico player that went beserk on some BYU girls. If not, you gotta check it out.

Some Buker notes and some random stuff from Ken Goe on the PAC 10. Let's just hope he's not trying to be funny. His worst jokes are when he jokes about how he's not funny. Consequently, those jokes are the least funny.
Oh, and as a side note, OSU's Sammie Stroughter scored the winning touchdown for Tampa Bay this weekend, helping TB to it's first win. Just so happens it was a win over Cal's Aaron Rodgers and Green Bay. You can see Sammie's catch toward the end of the clip. Bad week to be a Golden Bear?

Hope everyone had a good weekend. I was sucking down DayQuil and taking naps. I did manage to stay awake for the uo/Stanford game and, of course, our Cal game. And just in case any one forgot the last few games, Joe Halahuni is a freaking man. Six catches for 128 yards?! LOVE to see that out of a TE/H-Back/Beast. This kid is a lot of fun to watch, especially after the catch.

So taking stock of the weekend this early Monday afternoon, there are a few things to be happy about:

-Jahvid Best is OK. I really wish we could stop seeing that replay.

-The Beavers won. Here are some articles from the SF Gate, SF Chronicle (basically the same thing as The Gate), The SJ Mercury News and The Oregonian.

Other stuff to look at while you pretend to be busy with work/school...

-Halahuni and Sean Canfield both get some props from Ted Miller (ESPN) for their show down in Berkeley this past weekend.

-Buker talks bowls, rankings, hoops and booze.

-The Oregonian takes a look at this week's opponent, UW.

-Some news on future Beavers.

-Bob Condotta points out that not only are the Beavs 10 point favorites at the start of the week, but teased hair is appropriate for men of all ages. We applaud your courage, Bob. Hair jokes aside, he actually runs a pretty decent PAC 10 blog.

-Ken Goe is terrible but covers it up by providing a bunch of links.

-The Denver Post calls OSU hoops a program on the way up. This take is almost as unique a storyline as "Craig Robinson: A Michelle-Obama's-Brother-Story" but I'll admit, I'm not nearly as tired of it. Anything positive about OSU hoops makes me smile.

-Seattle Times has hoops power rankings up. OSU in at three.

This just in: having a cold sucks and isn't cool at all. Why couldn't this wait for Monday? I'm looking at a loss of quality drinking and sports viewing time here. Damn you cold season!!!!!
Kevin Riley told the SJ Mercury that he has some bad memories when it comes to the Beavers. I think that's kind of harsh. Well, then again, he could be talking about this:

Cliff Kirkpatrick continues to stalk the OSU football team and relay all the football related details to us. Love this guy's updates, he's always on top of stuff.

New hoops commit here. Devon Collier from the Bronx. Not a lot out there on this kid, but if our coaches want him, he must be that good. This kid sounds right up Coach Robinson's alley.

A few random links to kick off Hump Day...

-Beaver round ball is getting some more love from ESPN. See this link as well as the shot of the current cover page of college hoops (below).

I think the article only has one or two Michelle-Obama's-Brother references, which is a step in the right direction.

-Cal preview from CBS Sports... in a shocker, both teams say positive things about each other while the reporter talks about how important this game is for both teams. I really hope the Beavs are hungry because this is a must win, linchpin-for-the-season kind of game here and it will take MUCH more than a UCLA-esque effort.

-Schaftenaar stayed in Corvallis for the summer and pumped iron. Dude packed on 20 more pounds of pure Dutch muscle. Should be a bigger presence in the post. I wonder how pissed Jay John is that Roeland's suddenly a beast.

-Buker says Beavers are "standing on the intersection of 'average' and 'outstanding'"... "outstanding"? I'd like to think we're at the intersection of 'average' and 'pretty good'... I mean, it's not like a win at Cal is going to lock up a spot in the national title game. THAT would be an "outstanding" outcome for this team but hey, if we don't let teams like SC, UA and Cinci off the hook, MAYBE we're talking about an "outstanding" year. So far though, pretty good.

-Canfield and Quizz are each having impressive seasons. Wilner pegs Quizz as the top back in the conference. So he's got that going for him, which is nice.

Two days in a row... I haven't done the same thing in back to back days since, well, since I showed up for work this morning I guess.... sigh...

Jon Wilner of the SJ Mercury gives his picks for this week's PAC 10 action. He picks the Beavs as outright winners.
Ted Miller picks the Beavers as well. Looks like it's safe to bet the spread this weekend. I'm actually surprised it's only set at -8.5.
Miller also notes that the Beavs can't afford a USC hangover. Question: Can anyone ever really afford a hangover of any kind? Last time I was hungover it lasted a full 24 hours and killed my weekend.
Pssst! Jordan Poyer is a freaking stud and Astoria knows all about it. Here's a piece off O-Live chronicling his bad ass ways. In case you missed out on his nice return down in LA, here it is on YouTube. Feel free to search his name on there and watch a few videos of him shredding high school opponents from either side of the ball AND tearing it up on the diamond. Love the dual-sport local kids--we need more like him.
Bruins are limping into Corvallis. More reasons why OSU should take care of this game and put it away early. No reason not to get Katz some reps in the second half.
Taylor Mays' beheading of James Rodgers made it all the way to congress. No, seriously. I hate to see Mays singled out, but I'll be damned if the kid doesn't find his way onto the opposition's helmets and collar areas. I don't want to call him dirty but I can certainly say the kid is reckless and dangerous. To put it into terms we can all understand, he plays the way Al Afalava played AND drove, all rolled into one.
Here are some Beaver football notes and updates from the self proclaimed All PAC 10 Blog. I'm sure they're nice guys but I'm not sold on their takes yet. Worth a graze if you're bored.
And as we all know by now, after yet another unfortunate turn of events Moevao probably never gets to strap it up for the Beavers again. I think we'll all remember him for his top notch game management in big games like USC and Cal, and of course there's a certain play against UW that will always stick out in my mind. Good luck with the next chapter in your life, Lyle. Hope it involves Beaver football in some way!

-This won't surprise anyone who has followed college sports in the past few years but OSU baseball lands two teams (guess which two?) on Yahoo! Sports' Best of the 2000s list. Ranked lowly, sure, but they've got two teams up there so maybe that makes it OK?

OK, so it's gray outside, we're all at work/school, the economy sucks, swine flu is freaking annoying and if we can't trust the Balloon Boy to actually be on that freaking tinfoil balloon, who can we trust? (Apparently, NOT people named after birds OR people who name kids after birds, which rules out quite a few people in our fair state.)

Fear not.

Saturday is only a few hours away and hopefully this time next year I can pull up a third highlight video for a similar post. So just in case you forgot what a really great day feels like, here's a reminder of two pretty darn good ones if I might say so myself...

Football makes me sick. (Arizona edition)

When my team loses, football makes me sick.

When my team loses to Arizona, football makes me sick.

When the quarterback for my team seems to expect six seconds to select his receiver, football makes me sick.

When the other team's quarterback gets six seconds to select his receiver, football makes me sick.

Football makes me sick when my team's defense does not show up to play... or tackle... or defend the pass... stop the fourth string running back... you know, that kind of stuff.

When the play calling becomes so limited and predictable I start actually questioning whether or not my team's playbook has more than five pages in it, football makes me sick.

Arizona embodied many of the things that I hate to see my team do in a football game. Defend poorly in every phase of the game, lack of any kind of offensive punch, inconsistent line play on both sides of the ball... the list goes on. The Arizona game made me ill and it's my hope that I don't need to wait another week to feel better about my team and better about football.

Contrary to what David Puddy would tell you, the Devils are NOT #1.
