Daily Norseman Viking Nation... Far and wide

So... needed a break, so the better half and I jumped in the truck and hauled the pop-up camper to the Arizona side of the Colorado River and stayed at Cattail Cove State Park over the weekend.

Daily Norseman MNF Thread

Dunno... Im sitting here watching the MNF game.  I have 1 player in the mix in my FFL against 1 remaining for my matchup... NE player v NY player.  He has the best record in the league... Im behind him by 10 points this week.

So... Im interested in following this game and Im looking for anyone who wants to BS a bit while it plays out.

Is that 75 words?

Nope!  So here's a few more... The Jets are going down tonite... This game belongs to Brady... and hopefully, Branch!

Daily Norseman Why is Randy Moss a Minnesota Viking??

So... I'm catching some NFL Network today and I'm watching Bill Belichek get grilled by the press on Randy Moss.  I am struck by the 'digging' going on by the press... looking for the 'dirt' on why the New England Patriots would ship Randy to Minnesota for such a 'small' price.  It's overt that they want to hear that he was a problem in the locker room, a problem with the coaches, or a problem of any kind...

Which got me to thinking... Why is Randy Moss a Minnesota Viking?

My opinion after the jump

Daily Norseman Jackson re-signs with Vikings

[if you didn't catch this in the FanShot section... h/t medicineball]

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- The Minnesota Vikings re-signed backup quarterback Tarvaris Jackson on Monday as they wait for Brett Favre to decide if he will return for another season.

Jackson

Jackson

Jackson was a restricted free agent who was given a one-year tender worth $1.176 million.

He served in a backup role to Favre last season and appeared in eight games. The fifth-year team veteran has 19 career starts with 21 career touchdowns passing and four rushing.

A second-round pick out of Alabama State in 2006, Jackson became the Vikings' first-string quarterback in 2007. He started all 12 games in which he appeared, missing the other four with a variety of injuries: strained groin, broken finger and a concussion. He also has had knee problems during his career.

He struggled in his only playoff appearance, after the 2008 season, going 15 for 35 for 164 yards in a loss to Philadelphia.

Vikings coach Brad Childress has said if Favre decides to retire he is content going with Jackson or the other backup quarterback, Sage Rosenfels.

Minnesota has one unrestricted free agent who has not yet signed his contract tender: defensive end Ray Edwards.

Daily Norseman Kansas Viking site - riding off into the sunset...

Just jumped out to the Kansas Viking site and saw this posted:

http://www.kansasviking.com/

It’s Been Real, and It’s Been Fun

But in just over a month the hosting contract for this site will run out. I will not be renewing it as my enthusiasm for doing this ran out long before the contract did. I have had some kind of web presence for almost 12 years now. I have met a lot of great people through this website over the years and had a lot of fun. But I just don't have it in me anymore. This article from Viking Underground probably says it better than I can.

"The End is Nigh" by Mr. Cheer Or Die

I will still follow the Vikings and hope to get back to Minnesota soon for a game or two. But this will give me more time to spend with family, reading, and doing some traveling without having to haul a laptop along for 3-a-day updates. There will be no more active site updates between now and the first week of May, just this announcement so that people will know what is happening.

Thanks to all who have visited and supported this site over the years, and Go Vikes.

Daily Norseman TEX-2010

Dear TEX-2010,

Thank you for visiting the Daily Norseman.  It was fun, albeit somewhat irritating, to have you join us for Cowboy's week.  We beat your team - that's in the past now.  Yes, we are having some fun laughing at some of the Cowboy's players who are trying to distract others by pointing at the last TD we scored.  We think it's silly, and petty, and lame.  So we laugh, and we laugh, and we laugh.   It is now Saints week.  We've moved on past the Cowboys and our attention is nearly, squarely, on New Orleans...

I see you are still hanging around and posting trite, irritating posts, baiting us to come down to your level.  Please stop.

If you would like to bring intelligent conversation to the posts on our site by both Vikings and Saints fans, please do - but stop with the tripe.

I challenge Vikings and Saints fans to NOT reply to you unless you are adding quality to the discussion.

Please feel free to fill this TEX-2010 FANPOST with all the tripe you feel is necessary.

Thank you.

Peace.

Daily Norseman Make that 10 Vikings in the ProBowl!

CB Antoine Winfield was named to the NFC Pro Bowl team today, his 2nd straight season being recognized as a Pro Bowler. The 11-year veteran becomes the 1st Vikings CB to earn back-to-back Pro Bowls since Carl Lee in 1989 and 1990.

Winfield missed 6 regular season games as he battled a foot injury but still tied for the team lead with 9 passes defensed and notched 58 tackles in the 10 games he played.

With Winfield’s addition, the Vikings an NFL-best 10 players in the Pro Bowl this season, matching the team-best 10 Pro Bowl honorees in 1998.

Daily Norseman Create some good Karma for the Vikings??

Hey guys...I know this isn't directly Vikings football realated, but maybe we can generate some good Karma from the Vikings fanbase.

I was just watching the news and browsing our site at the same time.  The situation in Haiti is pretty bad (an understatment, I know).  Anyway, up popped some information to donate to the Red Cross relief fund for the victims in Haiti.

I just looked them up and donated a quick $20.

So, I guess I'll be skipping the Ice House 30 pack this weekend, but it's probaly money well spent.

Here's the link if your interested.  RED CROSS DONATION LINK

(oh, if the Mods think this is in poor taste and want to take it down, I won't be offended, Thanks)

Daily Norseman Throwbacks or the 'new backs'?

Daily Norseman Curses!

Is there a curse on the Minnesota Vikings?

I've heard people say it... I've seen it referred to in print... but I've never heard anything completely explained.  I did a Interweb search and came up with an article related to the Los Angeles Rams and their 'Vikings Curse' which ended in 1978 with a win.  Has anyone heard of a curse on the Minnesota Vikings?  It's origin?  etc...

Daily Norseman Interesting new Vikings Videos from NFL.com

I found these on the Vikings website today and I enjoyed them, so I thought I would link you to them.

The first is a breakdown of plays showing how the Vikings have taken advantage of mis-matches.  It's narrated by Cosell, which I find interesting and possibly prophetic... we shall see.  I like the classic NFL Films music used here too.

The second video is Sidney Rice talking about his transformation this year with glimpses at some of the drills the receivers run - which I find very interesting and answers some questions like... How the hell did he make that catch??!!  This video also has some nostalgic NFL Films features.

Anyway... enjoy the videos after the jump.

Daily Norseman 2009 Vikings QB results - Regular Season

The following 2008 stats were posted a couple of weeks ago to demonstrate our QBs struggles in the final games of the season.  I've updated the 2009 stats to show the final 5 games and I think we can see some interesting results.  His stats DO show a departure in the last 5 games from the first 11, but not as big as his slump last year, and certainly better than anyone could have expected by looking at his previous results.

I also included his 2009 Regular season stats - His best season ever??

Daily Norseman SAINTS LOSE!!!

I'm writing this fanpost so you all have a spot to come and thank me for calling the cowboys win over the Saints tonite.

The Cowboys needed this win to remain in contention going toward the post-season and the Saints were battling the 'undefeated' spectre.  The Cowboys dominated the playclock and kept the Saints offense on the sidelines.

Quite literally...

I WON!! playing KFCs Madden 10 game... that's right... I took my codes from my first KFC meal for quite a while, entered them online and WON my very own copy of Madden 10... It took about 3 weeks to arrive in the mail.

The promotion ends on 12/23, so there's still time to win.

Now I just need to figure out how to play the game on my PS3.  X.. no, O... RS^ + R2...nope.  dang!  It's hard to get all of these button/stick combinations figured out.

I did beat the Bears 35-0 in my first game against them though!!

Daily Norseman AVF Week 11 Power Ranking

Thought I would throw out another version of my Power Rankings now that we are past the half-way point in the season.  No real surprises in the top 5, but then things get interesting.

Remember... my PR is based primarily on the Points Differential.  The teams are ranked first by their PD, then Wins minus Losses are added to their PD Rank, resulting in a calculated total.  The list is then resorted by the Calculated total to reveal the final RANK.

Always enjoy your comments.

Daily Norseman Dec 6th Vikings v. Cardinals

There is talk on local sports radio (AZ) that the game on the 6th may be 'flexed' to Sunday Night Football.  The commentators are looking at the other match-ups available and agree that the Vikings v. Cardinals game is about the best candidate for the flex.  I believe they said the others were Pats v. Fins and Giants v. somebody...

In any case, the announcement for flex is supposed to come out 12 days before the game, which means we should know by the end of the day one way or another.

Daily Norseman Who is this week's MVP?

Good win this week.  Although the final score doesn't really reflect the dominating performance our team put in - due to a couple of 'missed opportunities'. A couple of 'fumbles' and a dropped pass here or there and the score looks like the blowout it really was.  Still, we got some really great play out of our playmakers - to which, I think it is time to put it to a vote.  Who deserves the MVP nod for this week?

Daily Norseman Deion Sanders on NFL network

If you haven't already heard him, you have got to catch Deion's 'What Brett _really_ meant in his post-game interview'...

Very funny stuff!

He also talked about how he took Brett clothes shopping when they were teammates on the Falcons - apparently, Brett was talking about this with his Vikings teammates this week and Deion got lots of calls and texts to 'laugh it up'.

Was great to see the Vikings win another game on the road, in Lambeau... the house that Brett built.

Daily Norseman Orlando Thomas

The Vikings organization has lost a teammate. Former safety Orlando Thomas, who had been suffering from Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), passed away on Tuesday evening; he was 37 years old.

Thomas was drafted by the Vikings in the 2nd round (42nd overall) of the 1995 draft out of Southwestern Louisiana (now University of Louisiana). He led the Vikings in INTs during the first 2 seasons of his career, collecting 9 INTs and All-Rookie Team honors in 1995 and then grabbing 5 more INTs in 1996...
