@KatieStrangESPN #Isles Nino Niederreiter's camp is seeking a trade from the Islanders, a source tells ESPNNY. Unhappy with current situation

Article on NYC population Growth (Brooklyn Related)

2

I've made the argument before that the Isles moving to Brooklyn is a good thing because of the shift in population dynamics. This article does a good job outlining how skilled workers and families are shifting towards the city. Just something to consider when talking about a potential Isles move.

Canucks use advanced statistics to inflate trade value

Very interesting that the Canucks not only use advanced metrics but purposefully used them to inflate Hodgson's trade value.

Botta discusses Islanders Arena situation

17

The big news out of the article is that Wang is apparently considering sites outside of New York in his search for a place to move the team. Seems like mostly speculation from Botta on that front but wouldn't be shocked by it.

Interview with Tavares and Subban from their junior days with Team Canada. Just found this and thought it'd be worthwhile to post if people haven't seen it. JT actually shows personality in it.

"Senior forward Corey Trivino has been kicked off the BU hockey team as of Monday night, according to sources. His removal from the team is reportedly due to an arrest Sunday night for breaking and entering and assault with an attempt to rape. More details to follow." Original Link Edit changed to the Puck Daddy Link which has more details

NHL News in Anaheim: Randy Carlyle out, Bruce Boudreau in

And to think about 2 weeks ago people thought the Isles were going to be the first ones to fire their coach. I wonder how this affects any possible trades for Bobby Ryan.

NHLPA Director Discusses Upcoming CBA Negotiations

+

Essentially the article goes in depth on the challenges for the NHLPA with strengthening the union, educating the players, and determining what to negotiate for. Additionally, it brings up the idea of a soft cap for the NHL. I'm sure I'm one of many who would hate that. I notice most of the discussion for the next CBA around here has revolved around how to fix cap circumvention and eliminate the cap floor. This article had me thinking things might not be that easy.

"My loyalty to this team is pretty much because I like playing here,'' he said. "I was very fortunate to get a shot with the Islanders. Maybe why I like it here so much is because of how they treated me and the type of opportunity that I got, but I think I'm loyal for a lot more reasons than that."

Bettman Talks about the Islanders Arena Situation

1

Q: There are half-empty buildings in some of the warm-weather cities and in places like Long Island. Concerns over that? BETTMAN: "Last year, it was our second-highest attendance in the history of the league. And we’re higher this year than we were last year. Teams are doing a lot less comping (of tickets) and we’re playing to a higher percentage of capacity. There are always reasons in a particular case. If you (are) in Long Island, you know what that building (is) like. Doesn’t look like this one. And that’s been a real problem. Phoenix is hopefully going to be sold, and fans there can now vest their emotions in a team that they don’t have to worry about where it’s going to be. There are always issues you can point to, there’s not one generalization. If you go back not too many years ago, people would have said, ‘my word, what’s going to happen to Ottawa or Pittsburgh or Buffalo?’ Those were all franchises that had issues that we fixed." Q: Given how dismal things are with the Islanders and their arena situation, aren’t they in some real trouble as a franchise? DALY: "Charles Wang has put 10 years, or a little more, not only into that franchise, but also into this Lighthouse Project, trying to develop that. He’s put probably $20 million into trying to develop that, and that’s nowhere right now. So, I think he’s taken a step back and I think he’ll have options. I think he’s committed to complying with his lease – he’s got four and a half years left on his lease. He’s going to need a new building. He’ll step back and see what his options are and he’ll operate the club the best he can in imperfect conditions until then." BETTMAN: "Listen, Charles Wang bought the team because he’s passionate about Long Island and he obviously wants the team to stay there. But they just need a new building. Keeping the team in Long Island is obviously his preference, but the team can’t stay there (at Nassau Coliseum). You guys travel the league. You know what our buildings look like. There’s nothing like that anymore."
