I love it when they meet Brady right in the middle … that's just a beautiful sight

Q. "In your opinion, who's the best QB in the league?"

A. "Peyton Manning"

"I have the same excitement that I had three years ago… Your question had a lot of 'I's phrased in it. I really think of it as a we. This is our opportunity and I feel fortunate to have a number of guys on my team that you’d feel fortunate to go into any type of battle or game with. That’s kind of my approach to it and I’m sticking to that."

Peyton's response when asked about another ring to validate his career. Quote via Kuharsky.

I love him; he’s the best I’ve ever seen. But when we play him, it’s like, 'man.' Because it’s frustrating. He doesn’t let you hit him. He knows exactly where to go with the football. He’s just a real pain in the butt.

Stampede Blue Where We Were and Where We Are Now...

Take a moment to think back to the very beginning of this season. During the off-season the Colts had undergone massive change, with the departure of future Hall of Famers Tony Dungy and Marvin Harrison, along with long time coaches Ron Meeks and Russ Purnell. Add to this the early departure of Ed Johnson, and injuries to key personnal such as Bob Sanders, Marlin Jackson, Adam Vinatieri and Anthony Gonzalez and many outside the Colts complex questioned how the team would respond to the changes, with many predicting that this would be the year in which the Colts would finally take a step back.

Four months on and the Colts are busy preparing for the New York Jets and the AFC Title Game. Despite all the changes, the Colts won a franchise record 14 straight games to start the year, 23 straight regular season games, and claimed the most wins by a franchise in a decade of 115. Along with this 5 Colts made it the Pro Bowl and Peyton won a league record 4th MVP.

Before everyone digs in and starts to analyze and discuss the up coming title game I believe that we should reflect on and acknowledge the key components that have been integral to the success of the franchise this season.

Peyton Manning won his fourth MVP in 2009, and he deserved it more than any of his previous three for the simple reason that he has no serious weapons. Receiver Reggie Wayne and tight end Dallas Clark caught 100 passes each, but they averaged just 12.6 and 11.1 yards per reception. If you insist on calling those players "weapons," fine. But specify the weapon. They're pellet guns.

He'll practice fully on Wednesday. That should tell the tale. We'll see how he comes in on Thursday. I would say he's an end-of-the-week, game-time decision. He would like to get on the field and we would like to get him on the field for as many snaps as we can if we can do that on Sunday.

That’s how we have to be, all the time. We all buy in to that and you saw it come together. If guys don’t buy in to the way we have to play, they have to answer to all of us. They have to be able to look us in the eye and explain why they didn’t give everything they have.

Peyton's rightfully named as the starter over Brady and Vinatieri named as the kicker.

Stampede Blue Jerraud Powers: Old Man

There are a number of reasons why the Colts are currently 9-0. Peyton Manning, Dwight Freeney, Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark, Robert Mathis, just to name a few, are the primary reasons the Colts are undefeated. But the contribution of the youngest player on the Colts roster has also been vital to the Colts success. I am, of course, referring to Jerraud Powers, the rookie cornerback taken from Auburn in the 3rd round of the 2009 draft.Powers_jerraud_medium

A great story that highlights the class of Jim Irsay and the Colts organisation as a whole. Well worth a watch.

Niners Nation Post from a Colts Fan

Dashon Goldson (quote via Mercury News):

A lot of quarterbacks try to fool you. They'll use their hard count and try to get you to show your hand, show your blitz, but when you've been in the game for a while, you can tell when a bluff is called.

I can't wait to see how he translates Manning's gaelic (tip to Colts blogger Indy Lori who originally found the vid):

In all seriousness it should be a good matchup and I am very much looking forward to the game. I'll also take this opportunity to back up coltsfan723's comments and thank you guys for the way you have "cross-blogged" with us. Goodluck, Go Colts!

We're holding the ball, we're unprotected, just sitting there defenceless. So they've got to stay away from me. They deserve to get flagged.

Stampede Blue Colts need more SB Titles

Came across a very well written article by Matt Snyder from NFL Fanhouse which looked at the performance of the Colts during the Manning era. As the title of the article suggests, Synder states that in order for the Colts, and Manning, to be immortalized as a truly great team and quarterback, they need to win at least one more title. I tend to agree with him.

We released Ed Johnson. I know some might wonder whether or not it was a character issue. It was not. We had to take a real good look at our roster and see where we may be able to make an adjustment here or there to get another guy on it. Ed was more production than anything else.

When you watch the tape, you find out that he really did a very credible job. Over the course of a 60-play game, Tony Ugoh played pretty darned well. If you said to me, 'Is Tony Ugoh as good a player as D'Brickashaw Ferguson?' I'd probably say, 'Yes.' Is he as good a player as maybe some people who have higher profiles in the media? The answer is probably yes. To Tony's credit, when he had to step in and play Sunday night, he played pretty darned well.

Peyton is exactly the same every day. He treats every day, every practice, every meeting like it's the most important, like it's the Super Bowl.
