Born and raised by the Bay. Graduated from Santa Clara, but grew up a Cal fan. Watched Warrior games with my dad as newborn, A's and Raiders games with my mom as a kid, and adopted the Sharks the year they got started. Stuck with my teams through good and bad times. Of which there have been plenty of both in the last nearly three decades.

As fair warning, I can rarely resist a pun, most of my jokes are bad, and I'm terribly amused by musical references. I also tend to have two modes: one liner and ZOMGWALLOFTEXT. I have no idea why.

Just Al Stalock doing some skating drills... Today (October 8th).

Nitty potentially out 12 weeks, other injury issues.

3

The latest WTC highlights the injuries and surgery recoveries of several Sharks. Nitty may miss 12 weeks for a procedure to remove constant pain he's having. Sheppard needs two months recovery on his knee surgery. Stalock is ahead of schedule. Lucia and Marcou are still suffering concussion symptoms. McLaren, Petrecki, Havlat, and Niemi are all day-to-day with various issues.

Ratto reporting a two-year extension for Logan.

Brodie tweeted it as 3, but the CSN article by Ratto says two, so we'll see tomorrow, I guess.

WTC's Injury Report

+

1. Jason Demers — right ankle, high sprain from Game 7 of Detroit series. 2. Scott Nichol — serious laceration above his knee requiring 20 stitches after being cut by Raffi Torres’s skate blade in Game 2. 3. Dany Heatley — A broken left hand during the season and a high-ankle injury suffered during Game 3 of the Vancouver series. 4. Ryane Clowe — Shoulder separation, similar to Joe Thornton’s. 5. Dan Boyle — A damaged MCL in his left knee from a March 17 game against the Minnesota Wild. 6. Logan Couture — Broken nose suffered when he collided with Clowe in Game 3 of the Vancouver series. 7. Joe Pavelski — Bothered by an ankle problem. 8. — Surgery scheduled today to reattach the tip of the little finger. Shoulder separation in Game 4 of the Vancouver series. There's more info on each than I copied and pasted here, as well, so follow the link.

The House of Rules Questions

I may end up regretting this as I fall down into a black hole of reading the NHL rule book, but I thought it might be helpful to have a place where people can ask about various rules and how they...

Mercury News article on new anti-cut gear used by the Sharks

4

Since this very topic has been discussed here quite a bit. From the article: "It kind of gave me a little scare with the wrist, so I thought I'd cover it up a bit," Demers said. He is also convinced that the protective sleeves -- featuring a Kevlar-like material -- already have saved him from a second injury. "I had them on when I got hit with a skate against Anaheim, the same spot. It came down just like that," said Demers, chopping with the edge of his hand across the recent scar on his right wrist. "But it didn't cut. I just got bruised, so I was pretty lucky."

I found this while looking through the Sharks' website for pictures to add to my stash. As CTGray told me, it's basically begging for a good round of captioning.

DP says Sharks are nearing the announcement of a deal.

"Unless something falls apart at the last minute, this likely will be the right-handed shooting defenseman that GM Doug Wilson reportedly has been seeking since last summer."

DW's Statement on Stalock's Surgery

2

Doesn't get into details, really, but does say the surgery was successful and that the Sharks are going to watch Al very carefully and get him the best care possible. Seems to imply Stalock will be re-signing with the team this summer (as he's an RFA once the season ends), which isn't terribly surprising, but still good to hear.

Cory Quirk's milkshake brings all the boys to the yard. Or Braun, Irwin, and Marcou, at least. Pretty sure it's Braun who asks for him to add a shot of tequila. Some goalie updates from WTC and DP.

9

Sexsmith is switching to Worcester from Stockton. Heemskerk, Anderson, White all got mentioned, though it sounds like DW was mostly joking about White. Nitty also says he might not be ready to go on Tuesday, so look for Sexsmith or Hutton to join the team that day.

Boyle and Couture headed to All-Star Weekend

6

The title pretty much says it all. Boyle was selected to be an All-Star and Couture was selected as one of the twelve rookies. The Canucks and Blackhawks carried the selections, with the Penguins just behind.

WTC: More on DW's "chat" with the boys.

1

Definitely don't want to take away from the posting on Cavanagh, because that's bigger news at the moment in my mind, but DP had follow-up on DW calling the guys out. I'm sure we can make pretty educated guesses at which guys were congratulated for exceeding expectations and which guys were the biggest targets of criticism. As several people here have said, though, the time for simply talking is probably past. These players need to decide if they're going to coast and possibly be gone in a month or if they're going to pull their shit together and start playing like they can and should.

WTC: Sad news: Former Sharks prospect Tom Cavanagh found dead at a Rhode Island mall

13

This is a sad, sad one. I remember Cavanagh from the years he played for us. Worse, this all sounds very murky from his father's mentions of mental illness, the blunt force trauma, and the fact it was in a public place. Poor dude. I hope for the best for his family.

Bourne Blog: Spread offense, stretch defense and break the cycle

2

This one is a very interesting article on how offensive-zone plays happen in the NHL, focusing on how the cycle has changed with the rules changes the league has implemented. I think it has some really distinct impact on some of the Sharks' current problems and does a good job of trying to explain things to people new to the sport.

Emmons with an injury update on WTC

2

Not a long article, but the highlights are: Nichol and Demers are skating; the Worcester kids are still here (Ferriero and Braun skated); Huskins, Seto, Wallin, and Wingels did not skate. Demers went through practice with the rest of the team, as well. No word on if Wingels was watching practice with a bag lunch and juice box.
