My name is David, I'm 24 years old (March 18) and I'm from Detroit, Michigan. I've been a huge Avalanche fan since I saw hockey on TV in 1996. We all know they won the cup that year so I've stuck with them. I get approached on a daily basis about being an Avalanche fan in Michigan. I can prove to Red Wings fans that I know more about their own team and hockey in general because I watch it so much. I watch/listen to almost every game and visit Colorado Avalanche and NHL.com daily. I recently purchased a Joe Sakic authentic 3rd jersey and it's one of my most prized possessions. Since 1996, I've been sporting an Avalanche hat. I usually buy one every year if they play poorly or if the hat gets too ratty. All in all, I love the Colorado Avalanche, everyone I know knows how much the team means to me. I always scream and cheer after every goal and how they perform dictates how I feel on a daily basis.
My favorite All-Time Avalanche players are Patrick Roy, Joe Sakic, Ray Bourque, Milan Hejduk, and Rob Blake. I played Roller hockey for 4 years as a goalie and wore #33 in honor of Roy
I'm also a big Detroit Pistons fan and my favorite All-Time Pistons are Grant Hill, Chauncey Billups, Rip Hamilton, and Joe Dumars. 33 is favorite number because of Patrick Roy and Grant Hill.

Colorado Avalanche Hat Crisis 2011
So, for as long as I've been an Avalanche fan I've donned an Avalanche cap. Over the years I've gone through countless hats. Every one or two years I get a new one to symbolize the start of a fresh new, hopefully successful, season. I'm also pretty superstitious about this ordeal and make sure that my new purchase is done BEFORE the season starts; I don't usually switch hats mid season.
"From Out to In: Western Conference"
Similar to the season preview, but with way more optimism!
I was reading the DP article on Varlamov's press conference when I read this...
"Varlamov said he will work this summer with Avs goalie coach Kirk McLean"
.....??????
Wings/Avs Rivalry Post Realignment.
If Detroit moves over to the East, we will see them only 1-2 times a year. What would that do to the rivalry? It appears that the rivalry only exists through the fans, but fewer match ups could mean more for the players.
For me, there will be no love lost between me and The Detroit Red Wings since I reside in Michigan.
Also, how awesome would an Avs/Wings Stanley Cup Finals Be?
Your thoughts?
Fuck The Red Wings
I have the answer....
The answer is simple and has been under our noses this entire time....
The Best video ever, and very fitting for tonight.
Paul Stastny(notes) has shown he's good for around 80 points in an 82-game season; question is whether he can break the ceiling. We're calling for a slight downgrade here for Stastny, as the Colorado Avalanche's young players like Chris Stewart(notes) and T.J. Galiardi(notes) deal with new expectations and because Stastny has played as many healthy seasons as he has injury-plagued ones. But we make this call fully knowing that he could also bust 80.
Game 3 Round 1 2010 Stanley Cup Playoff Video
Can't believe no one posted this. Doesn't matter now anyways, but it was still cool to watch.
MHH to the Rescue on Facebook
So in a petty attempt to cut down Detroit's series with San Jose, I made a facebook status update reminding everyone that the Avs beat SJ twice while the Wings did it just once. Although there were claims that an Avs/Wings Rivalry doesn't exist, Red Wings fans were on the spot to comment...a whole 40+ times to defend their team who clearly had the better post season (2nd round exit vs 1st round exit). Butthurt indeed!
Anyone who wants to add is more than welcome
Rally The Troops
So we all know the Avalanche are in the Playoffs. No one predicted us to be here, and here we are. We are the 8th seeded underdogs vs the 1st place San Jose Sharks. Again, no one is giving us a game in this series, let alone a series win. It was the critics who said we'd finish near the bottom of the West (again) that motivated us to get to where we are now, and it's those same critics who will help motivate us in the Playoffs...
Why the Avalanche will win it
Something not so negative for once
Line Combinations
So not even Adrian Dater knows the line combinations that the Avs will be rolling come Monday so I was wondering what everyone else was thinking in terms for our lines.
"The Loser Point Discussion"
With the standings being as close as they are in the West (Chicago and San Jose being the exceptions), I've noticed a lot of people have been complaining about "the loser point". The loser point is in reference to the 1 point awarded to the team who ends up losing in overtime or the shootout for those of you who don't know. I just thought maybe we could get an entire post on "the loser point" to gather all the opinions on the subject.

Chances of Making the Playoffs
Here is a link to Colorado's chances of making the Playoffs, as well as the other NHL teams and other various sports.

Joe Sakic's future.
The biggest problem that I have with the mulling over Joe's decision is
#1: there is no wave of players, in my opinion, that can replace him if he chooses to retire. Take Detroit for instance (I can't believe I'm using them as a reference other than I watch them almost as much as I watch the Avs STRICKTLY cuz I live in Detroit. Look at my other post, I hate them). Yzerman retired and Lidstrom took over. They still had guys like Draper, Maltby, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, (reaquiring) Osgood, and Holmstrom to lessen the blow. It was almost seemless to them. The only guys we have on the roster that were with any of the Cup winning teams are Foote (who's gone soon), and Hejduk. The other guys that we have some sort of familiarity with, i.e. Liles, Svatos, Clark, (all which people are saying should be shopped), and Statsny, I'm just not that comfortable with passing the leadership down to them, especially after seeing what the Avs are capable of doing to fan favorites (Smyth and Lappy, and Tanguay, Drury, and Aebischer not too long ago).
#2: No one really seems to care and just address it as whether or not he comes back. Maybe thats just me not wanting to concede that we should just move forward with or without a legitimate "heir" to the team once he's gone and just go with a complete "wipe the board clean" approach.
I hate the Redwings
After watching Game 6 of the Wings/Ducks series, I just felt the need to tell people that I absolutely hate the Redwings. All of their fans are absolute homers and never take blame for any short comings they have.
They all blame Curtis Joseph for playing like garbage vs the Ducks when J.S Giguere stole almost the entire playoffs (won the Conn Smythe in a losing effort).
They're also crying and whining about game 3's bogus call (it was bogus) and are gonna blame the entire playoffs on that one call. The goal would have forced overtime and anything could have happened and in the wake of that call the Wings won the next 2 games by an overall margin of 10-4. Watching game 6 I heard excuses of minicule offsides and penalty calls and no one admitting that they just played poorly.
And it absolutely bugs me to no end that they can play so well in the regular season and seem so vulnerable in the playoffs.
I hate the Redwings...
