From ESPN's Adam Schefter, suggesting trades he thinks should happen:
"4. Cleveland quarterback Brady Quinn to Carolina for a conditional fourth-round pick: Clearly, the Quinn-Cleveland marriage hasn't worked any better than Greg Norman and Chris Evert's, so call it a day. Right now, Carolina doesn't have a first-round pick in April, and would be unable to draft one of the top quarterbacks, so it would make sense to take a chance on a quarterback who needs a change of scenery."

"The only thing I wish we could do was compete," [Pirates SS Jack] Wilson said in a phone interview with the newspaper. "I wish we could go out and get some more players to make our team competitive. And, you know, now that this whole trade thing has probably blown over, that's going to be my new focus on the Internet: Instead of looking for my name and where I might go, hopefully, we might get some players. Because we need them."

The best cure for being kicked when you're down (Sabathia to the Yanks)? Kicking someone even lower when THEY'RE down. I love schadenfreude! I especially love how he says "compete" so many times. Who needs to win when you can you just continually lower your expectations?

Saw this on ESPN. Apparently, Al Davis has decided to cut DeAngelo Hall. I'm not sure what our cap room is like, but I'd love to upgrade the secondary and with Al Davis kicking in his bonus, I think he'd be a great fit. I know there are issues with his character, but he's young and extremely talented. The only question I'd have is whether he would fit in to the Browns' plans long term; I'm not sure Savage would okay any short term moves.

According to ESPN, a pitcher named Hector Rondon will be starting for the World's future team, and he's from Cleveland's system. He's in Class A+ Kinston right now. His line from Baseball Reference suggests nothing special, but he does show positive signs of development (although his K/BB seems to be slipping a touch, never a good sign). Have any of you folks heard of him? BR doesn't do ERA+ for minor leaguers, and I'm not sure what kind of Park Factor we have in Kinston (although I'd heard, in general, the Carolina league is a pitcher's league).

MLB.TV Review?

MLB.TV -- yay or nay?

So, I'm an Indians fan in Illinois. I got Gameday Audio at the beginning of the season (which is great, BTW), but I want to SEE the Indians too. When I still lived in Ohio (a scant two years ago), I knew all the Indians players by sight; I am sorry to say that no longer applies. So, I ask you, the LGT crowd, is it worthwhile picking up MLB.TV? I got it when it first came out, and it was awful. The feed was really unstable, the picture terrible, and the sound tinny. I've heard good things about it, especially the condensed games, but I wanted to see what the general opinion was. Thanks, folks!

Dr. Williams, or how I came to start worrying and hate the White Sox

I have had an epiphany about the White Sox.

For a long time, there were only two teams I hated in baseball -- The Yankees and the Marlins. I have only missed one World Series in its entirety for in the last 10 years: the Yankees-Marlins in 2003. But the White Sox are quickly catching up to the Marlins, and may surpass if they win another World Series. Initially, it was just Hawk & DJ. Then it was acquiring Thome. But when they almost acquired Soriano, it was over. I don't know why, but getting somebody like Soriano, a luxury a team with that offense didn't need, seemed way too, well... Yankeeish. What do you guys think? Am I overreacting?

Are we really and truly doomed?

I've been paging through some of the stuff here, and man, you lot are depressing. If I were going to trade one person on this team, and only one, it would be...

Casey Blake.

Why? Classic "Buy low, sell high." If we trade him now, before his value plummets, we can sucker some team into coughing up some decent loot for him (maybe a B+ prospect or two). Boone isn't the problem, Boone playing EVERY DAY is the problem. I'd love him as a super utility guy. Send down Vazquez, call up Marte. Wickman has a pretty solid track record, and apart from his last couple of appearances, he's continued that this year. If we trade him, fine. I just don't want to see him run out of town on a rail. Johnson is a lost cause, and I agree with what most of you are saying, convert him to long relief (or send him to AAA) and call up Sowers. One could even theoretically put Guthrie in the rotation.

For me, the biggest problem is what to do with Victor? If you move him from behind the plate, he loses his value. He goes from Mike Piazza to, say, Tino Martinez without the glove. But at the same time, given how many former catchers are on the team, including both Wedge and Skinner, maybe he never will learn how to be effective. I don't know, I'm torn.

Will we make the playoffs? Sure, anything's possible. I wouldn't bet on it though. In the long run, though, I don't see the need to panic and go into a fire sale.
