Mile High Report 4-3 ideas

After Josh mcdaniels announced the possibility of more 4-3 being incorporated I was teing to think of some possible projections ad what it would look like. At d tackle I think Williams and bannan are the starters with fields and Marcus Thomas spelling them. Ryan Mcbean seems more of a 3-4 fit but I'm Sure he could play tackle as well. At end I think Jarvis green is definitely one end and Robert ayers the other. Moss coming in as well. I think once Darrell Reid returns he can be versatile on the line he is a former dt in a 4-3 but was athletic enough to play backer last year. At the outside linebacker spots I think DJ and woodyard play them. Dj will probably have to play strong side unless woodyard has bilked up more than we know and could possibly be a better fit. Haggan isn't really your traditional 4-3 mike backer but he will probably man that. Guys like akin ayodele will rotate and the hybrid guys like kirlew Atkins and Alexander could switch up at multiple positions. What do you guys think?

Mile High Report Linebackers projection

What do u guys think about woodyard. Mcd says he has gotten bigger any chance u think he can move to outside or start middle and haggan outside. Honestly I love haggan inside he’s big and physical and that’s what we need against the run. Moss should not start just pass rush I think we will need to bring someone in or maybe move woodyard outside. Either way I really don’t think this hurts our run d. Doom is pretty one dimensional I’m sure he’s improved but if we cam find other ways to get to the an will be ok.

Mile High Report Pouncey or Iupati at 11?

Just a quick question for broncos fans out there.  Would you be ok with the broncos drafting Pouncey or Iupati at 11.  It seems we are definitely trying to move back and snag a guy like pouncey spoon tebow or Iupati.  But if we cant find a trading partner and say McClain is off the board do the Broncos take one of them and who would you take?  There is much more depth at guard in this draft to take one in the mid rounds and Olsen could prove to be a good player and start here but is Iupati the better choice.  I also heard Hochstein will move to center if we a guy like tennant or walton or anyone else we may draft in the later rounds is not ready.

Im not a huge fan of Peter King either but he does have a point that we should be looking to get a qb in the first few rounds.  Im not for drafting one in the first unless its Tebow late and we trade our second next year to get him.  I think Quinn will provide competition and is a good backup but isnt the answer and just  not sure if we want to move forward with Kyle Orton is our starter for the future.  He should be much more prepared this year and im glad he just signed to his tender but hes missing a top 5 receiver in this league and he just wont have all the weapons he did last year.  What do you guys think?

Mile High Report An unlikely possibility and a mock

Many people including myself would like to see the Broncos trade down to draft McClain/Williams/Bryant around 15 or 16 or trade down once or twice to philly or NE and grab Pouncey Iupati or Spoon.

However, if we trade Scheff for a fourth rounder or maybe him and a sixth for a third, but then with the 11th pick, 2 seconds this year and next year at least one third and one fourth(a pick being added in one of these rounds from scheffler trade) is there a possibility McDaniels could be looking to move up.  Yesterday it seemed he was on the same page as most of us but that could just be a huge smoke screen or hi just being his secretive self.

Eric Berry seems to me like maybe the next big safety play maker to come out of college.  His knack to find the football, his attitude, awareness, intelligence, are all thing McDaniels im sure loves.  If Eric Berry is still available at 6 before the Browns, i can very much see us trying to trade up to take Berry at 6.  Seattle can then take Spiller at 11 and possibly Dez Bryant at 14 to make their once weak offense much more electrifying.  They could also take a tackle at 14 possibly charles brown who is from  USC or trade down to take him later.

TRADE: Tony Scheffler to Cincinnati for third round pick(96)

TRADE: Denver trades 11th pick(1250) 80th pick(190) 96th pick(116) to Seattle for 6th pick(1600)

TRADE: Denver trades 2011 second round pick and 45th pick to NYJ for 29th pick

6. With the sixth selection the Denver Broncos select Eric Berry, Safety, Texas

Eric Berry is an elite talent and a top-10 pick. It is as simple as that, barring injury next season. Berry is one of those few individuals where it just seems like this is what he was born to do. He is a natural on the football field with the intangibles to boot. He will also be coached by one of the best defensive coordinators of all time in Monte Kiffin who knows how to coach the strong safety position (John Lynch and Jermaine Phillips).

What really impresses me about Berry is he reportedly played all of the 2008 season with a nagging shoulder injury, which he then had surgery on in December. Berry is the No. 1 prospect in the 2010 NFL Draft, in my opinion. Berry has a supreme blend of strength and athleticism for a defensive back. One of college football’s most productive players during the last three seasons. Is a very smart defender who displays outstanding instincts. Has tremendous range when playing the run or pass. Very aggressive coming up in run support. Has the leadership qualities to mold into a future team captain.

I could post these expert opinions all day but the reason i think we need Berry extend beyond just his natural ability.  If you look at the last few superbowl champions and teams who have made long runs there is a common theme.  A dominant safety.  Darren sharper, Ed Reed, Troy Polamalu, Adrian Wilson, Rodney Harrison, Antoine Bethea/Bob Sanders.  This league is very pass happy now and to have a guy with such a great sense for the ball is huge.  To learn from a guy like Dawkins he could be a winner here for a while.  I think he will be a star and him and McBath would be one of the best combos in this league especially in coverage.

With the 29th pick the Denver Broncos select Maurkice Pouncey C, UF

It's no question after hearing McDaniels yesterday that he wants to become tougher upfront and run the football much better.  Pouncey is versatile, he can play center and or guard, and has the perfect size for this offense at center.

With the 43rd pick the Denver Broncos select Damian Williams WR, USC

I think Dez Bryant is the only receiver in this draft this is even close to be considered in the first round or has number 1 talent.  I do not trust Benn's hands i do not want to see dropped passes all year and a guy who cannot run crisp routes in this system.  Demariyus Thomas is a lost of work but has potential, i just think we need an impact player and Williams is the biggest.  He can play in the slot and outside.  He is very quick and his routes are superb, and has played in a pro-style offense for his college career.

With the 114 pick the Denver Broncos select Torrell Troup NT, UCF

A versatile lineman who will play nose but can also switch over and play the 5 technique at DE.  Good size and a productive player at UCF.  Along with Williams and Fields there should be a good rotation at NT

TRADE: Broncos trade 2011 5th round pick and 2010 7th round pick to Philadelphia for 5th round pick 137

With the 137th pick the Broncos select Brandon Carter G, TT

Literally a monster, Carter has great size and can provide some good competition at right guard with Seth Olsen.

With the 183rd pick the Broncos select Micah Johnson ILB, UK

His combine hurt him, but that may only help us, a guy that does nothing but produce at UK should be a great competitor with Larsen, Woodyard and Haggan at ILB.

CFA's to look at:

Josh Hull ILB, penn state

Brian Jackson CB, OK

Chris Brown RB, OK

Brandon James returner, UF

Danario Alexander WR, Mizz

Chris DeGeare OG, Wake

I really would like to know your thoughts.  I did not just want to make a mock that was like every other one that trades down.  I gave a possible trade up scenario.  WE lose come picks but i i think get great players.  There are always suprises on draft day and we may have someone very good at 11 who someone behinds us really wants or we just stay put at 11.

Mile High Report Broncos Mock Draft

With news of the recent signings and Rolando McClain being drafted a lot has changed.  I am also assuming that we do not sign anymore starters, most likely o line depth maybe a backer or special teamer.

Pre Draft Trades

1.  Broncos trade Brandon Marshall to Seattle for first round pick (14) and third round pick

2.  Broncos trade Tony Scheffler fourth round pick and 2011 fifth round pick to Browns for second round pick

First Round pick 11

Dez Bryant-WR OSU- With Marshall gone we have no true number one, and if Royal continues his sophomore slump than we are weak on a number two receiver as well.  Dez Bryant may be the best receiver in the class and I hate drafting receivers high but we need one.  Another option would be to draft Dan Williams here and Arrelious Benn in round 2.

First Round Pick 14

Mike Iupati-OG-Idaho- We used the 12th pick overall to draft Knowshon Moreno and he needs help.  This guy is a great run-blocker and has terrific size.  His pass blocking is questionable but should improve.

Second Round

Terrence Cody-NT-Alabama

There are still many questions about him, but the fact is Jamaal Williams may only be here 1 year and he may not even stay healthy all year.  Cody has trimmed down to 350, and has been working hard to do that, he has lost 20 lbs. in about a month.  Great Run Stuffer, will only play 2 downs, but Bannan or Baker can play Nose on third down.

Second Round

J.D Walton-C-Baylor

Walton is a good size center at 6-3 300 and has good technique in pass and run blocking.  He should battle for and possibly become the starting center

Third Round

Dexter McCluster-HB-OLE Miss

I really do not care what his 40 time was at the combine, they guy simply makes plays and changes games and has the explosiveness the Broncos missed last year.  Not to mention he is a return threat.

Third Round

Jamar Chaney-ILB-Mississippi State

Good size, great athleticism and range, had a productive senior season in the SEC.

Sixth Round

David Pender-CB-Purdue

Good size, 13 pass break ups and Big ten all second team

Seventh Round

LeRoy Vann-CB/KR/PR-Florida A&M

Not really an NFL corner but 6 returns for TD's cant hurt, id like this value in this sevent round

With the trades i projected we wouldnt have a fourth or fifth round pick and i dont think the Broncos will spend higher than a fourth on a QB. Canfield would be a solid late round pick but i dont see the point in drafting another sixth round qb.

Mile High Report My Offseason View

Im still speechless, i have always been a 10-6, 9-7 guy from the start of the season, but i was horribly mistaken.  I think this team started off but is really a 6-10 team.  But thats why its a marathon and not a sprint.  Ive sat in front of my laptop the last few hours and im done being pissed off and have focused all my attention to this offseason which will feature a lot of controversy no matter how you look at it, theres really no way we can keep all of these guys with the big money they will want, along with drafting new players.  So here is my take for how i would attack this offseason.  This is assuming a CBA deal gets done

Re-Signing process:

1.  Kyle Orton- It sounds weird sort of but I think i would slap the franchise tag on him.  Because I'm not so sure i want him as our long term solution, but i would not let him walk, he proved to be a good team player and solid qb in his first year in a new system.

2.  Brandon Marshall-  Let him walk.  It really hurts to say this.  Maybe my favorite player in the NFL once he steps on the field, he has grown up and teams will offer him big money i just dont think we should focus spending on him.  Theres no question this guy can do really anything on the field, but who even knows what will happen with arrests or off-field issues so i have to say bye to Brandon.

3.  Elvis "Doom"ervil- In my honest humble opinion, I would not be disappointed if we let him go to a team that offers him huge money.  I think he is great, but he slowed down like the rest of this defense and at least 4-5 of his sacks were coverage sacks.  Still though i would sign him, he is like i said great, and will improve as well, he is one of the best if not the best pass rusher in the NFL.

4.  Chris Kuper- I think we should re-sign him, i have not watched enough tape to see how he has done individually enough, but I think he is a good young guard who has a lot of potential.

5.  Tony Scheffler- Great skill set, will be a fine receiving tight end in another uniform.

Cuts; Hamilton(just let walk), Weigmann, Peyton Hillis(love him, wish him the best but does not fit here), LeKevin Smith, Jarvis Moss

Free Agency:

1.  Malcom Floyd

Yes he is a Charger, but i love his size and speed, he can make plays and is a deep ball threat.  Cannot replace Marshall but will be a good asset.

2.  Logan Mankins

This guy is a beast and our future LG.  A proven winner at New England and a good team player.  New Enlgand has many free agents they need to turn the attention to, and their system of drafting interior lineman to fill in may come into effect next year and they pass on Mankins.

3.  Ryan Pickett

Packers will not be that interested in signing this 340 lb. NT already having BJ Raji.  Pickett had a decent year after being replaced by Raji during the year.  He is a a lot of beef that could provide at least some competition on the d line.

4.  Jarvis Green

Another NE guy who is a good pass rusher from the 3-4 DE spot, should provide good competiton and could be a potential starter in this D.

5.  Artis Hicks

An experienced Guard who can help us inside and provides some more beef.  He also plays some tackle as well.  Should provide at least some competition.

Draft:

Round 1: Rolando McClain ILB Bama: a does everything linebacker, his play speaks for himself

Round 2: Arrelious Benn WR Illinois: all the physical tools, had a down year but was mainly off of bad qb play from juice.

Round 3: Mike Neal DE/DT Purdue: versatile and big at 305 could be a good fit at 3-4 DE.

Round 4: Sergio Render OG VT: Another offensive lineman who will challenge for the spot at right guard or move to center.

Round 6: Dexter McCluster RB Ole Miss: I would not be afraid to draft this guy in the third or fourth round becuase how important i think he is to this team.  I think the biggest thing we missed was explosiveness, a spark for this team is much needed.

Round 7: Jamar Wall CB TTU: need depth at corner

Other picks i like, Riley Cooper, Tim Tebow if second round, jordan shipley, Arthur Jones, Cameron Heyward, Mike Iupati

Just some ideas a quick mock.  This really sucks, but im a draft nut, and i think for free agents and college players I and many more will have a better understanding of potential players McD may go after.

Mile High Report Playoff Picture

For those of you who would rather have us make the plaoffs then to lose and prove a point, you're in luck.  Because of the three way tie rules, division record breaks the tie.  We have the best record in our division of all the 8-7 teams, and therefore will will be in if we win at KC.

Three or More Clubs

(Note: If two clubs remain tied after third or other clubs are eliminated, tie breaker reverts to step 1 of applicable two-club format.)

  1. Apply division tie breaker to eliminate all but the highest ranked club in each division prior to proceeding to step 2. The original seeding within a division upon application of the division tie breaker remains the same for all subsequent applications of the procedure that are necessary to identify the two Wild-Card participants

Mile High Report McDaniels mic'd MUST WATCH

Mile High Report Felix Jones out

According to reports from ESPN, Felix Jones will not play sunday vs. the Broncos out with an ankle injury.  And with Barber already having troubles with injuries Tashard Choice will most likely get the bulk of the carries.

Tashard Choice is a pretty solid back, but it makes it a lot easier to not have #28 back there who brings the word eletric to a new meaning.  He is so fast and explosive...and definitely scares me.  Barber is a good tough back that i like who can hit holes hard, but he does not have the receiving ability and versatility Jones has.  Marion wont be 100% for this game either.

I think the Cowboys will still run the rock a lot, Tashard can no doubt handle himself, and they have physical o line and good TE's.  However i think McD and Nolan can game plan for an air attack from Dallas.  They run a lot of 2 TE packages and utilize them well, cut Crayton and Roy williams are very capable.

Mile High Report I officially love McDaniels

The Broncos have a great indoor practice field and it is rainy and cold(40 degrees) and decent rain fall, but the Broncos are practicing OUTSIDE today.  I just logged on to CBS and it said there may be in rain in Oakland Sunday so the Broncos are practicing in the rain today.  Guru touched on it last night, notice how little injuries and how much tougher we are, it starts in august and goes through the season.  Way to go Josh, i love ur philiosophy and what you have done here, keep it up.

Go Broncos.  By the way anyone here Dawkins today saying Russell could play tackle for them. hahahahah, be an animal sunday wolverine!!!!

Mile High Report Chad Jackson released

Due to the return of Marshall, reciever Chad Jackson was released by the Denver Broncos.  Chad had done a decent job, he dropped a couple balls but made some good plays and was a decent stock blocker.

I dont really like this move unless LeKevin is out for only a week or two, because why keep an injured guy on your 53.  At least let the guys play, and cut the weak link.  I wish chad the best, he worked hard, there will be a spot on someones roster for this guy i think, he is just an odd man out.  Im glad we didnt cut Lloyd though, all the McD haters would think he favors NE over Denver.

props to A scheff for his reporting.

Mile High Report Quick ESPN Rant

IM done, ive had it, John Clayton u just put me over the edge.  Is adam schefter the only decent guy that works for you.  Jesus here we go.

Mark Schlereth:" horrible front seven" "horrible coaching" 5-11

    Greenburg: "4-12"

Clayton: "3-13" just balbs about how badly we will struggle

Steve Young: on draft day couldnt even look in the camera he was insulted that a "franchise qb" was traded, Steve shut up, watch some god damn game film, you will realize that the word franchise qb is thrown around like Nate Webster by opposing lineman.

It isnt even about ESPN anymore, its the Nfl Network, its the average football fan that looks at the running back middle linebacker, running backs, and recivers and judges a team.  Well jesus christ ive had it with the MSM and Bronco haters.  I wish i could send all of this to Josh, but im sure he reads it and so does the players, i pray to god the feed off this and

nobody on that network has predicted us to win more than 6 games, chris carter and others cant say enough bad things about 1 team.  "Oh Josh mcdaniels sucks , who is even on their defense, oh yeah and in other news Shawn Meriman choked someone, but he looks like dynOmite, and yeah josh mcdaniels sucks i hate denver for trading cutler, Tom cable knocked out an assistant, but oakland is just goofy :), Brandon Marshall deserves more money, DENVER BRONCOS GIVE HIM MORE MONEY, Gailey is fired, there is turmoil in KC who cares have u seen how good Dwayne Bowe is, and have seen Denver's schedule i cant fine 2 wins."(pretty much what happens on EsPN set)

Its so funny how the Broncos are covered by so many guys waiting for them to make a mistake and then POUNCE ON THEM, hmmm, no congrats on Vonnie Holliday, Brian Dawkins, Jabar Gaffney, Goodman, not even a little Knowshon here or there.  NOPE just hate.  Raiders trade their future for a one year borrow of a good player but who hasnt played in a 3-4 in 10 years and isnt surrounded by Wilfork, Bruschi, and Mayo anymore.  " but yeah the raiders are sick, did u see Jamarcus Russel just eat that whole cow, he must be tough to tackle."

Did anyone else notice the other coaches we have here, one of the best d-line coaches, a great D coordinator, ST coach, and other assistants who will make positive impacts.

All i can say is, i cant wait to shock the world, i drink a little kool-aid here and there, i dont chug though, and i think realistically we are a 7 to 8 win team.  We probably wont go to the playoffs or even out of the first game, we need a year to settle in before we can win 10+ games.  but boy i cant wait for the bandwagon to load up after a few games.

Go Broncos! i apologize to Adam Schefter, Michael Lombardi and others who give Denver a chance, and actually analyze the whole team outside of two positions.

Mile High Report Simms and Orton back

Well, I lied.  According to the Denver Post Chris Simms will take snaps today at practice to prepare for Cincinati, however Kyle Orton wont return until Tuesday and practice throughout the week for the game.

This is great news, for all who were for some reason hoping to watch Brandstater in the first game, you're out of luck.  It seems both will be ready for action if need be in Cinci.  It will be interesting to watch not only the Broncos but the Bengals, Carson Palmer had a high ankle sprain, and has missed the last few weeks.  His mobility has been contained, and we should be able to get good pressure and get a few sacks.

No News on Chris Kuper, but it looks like he will be the only starter out of the game on Sunday, Knowshon will be back, and im guessing him and Hillis will get a good load of carries and Buck will get his share too.  They wont pass much in the game.

Honestly i would almost rather see Simms in the game, just my poinion, i am an Orton supporter and feel we should stand by him for the season unless he collapses.  But Simms had an ankle sprain, Orton had a dislocated finger, his passes may not look to pretty.  The Broncos should want to do whatever is in the best interest of the football team.  If Orton strgulles in practice, and is throwing a lot of ducks, there is no way we can plug him in there.  Let it heal, and allow another experienced qb manage the offense, use PA, and make the smart throws.  Not to mention he will probably be able to stratch the field.  I can't imagine Orton being able to throw it very far with his finger, and that wasnt a shot at his already tabbed "weak" arm.  I for one believe Orton will make the throws.  McD just wanted to reveal a limited side of his playbook( by the way, why dont we have 1).

Mile High Report Wow! Vonnie Holliday visiting the Broncos!!!

Wow is all i can really say.  I wanted this guy ever since he was released a while ago.  He visited but never made a deal or nothing came serious of it.  He has great experience, especially in 3-4's.  I think if he shows he stilll has some left in the tank and the same ability he could get a good amount on playing time(if he signs).

McD must not be satisfied with the D End play outside Peterson.  Also, maybe this means LeKevin's injury is bigger than what we think.

Anyways here comes i think the 10th player from thew AFC East.

Mile High Report Marshall for Davis Harris

Im not one to spread rumors, however this is no bleacher report rumor.  According to two nfl sources and Adam Schefter, the Broncos are looking to trade Marshall to the Jets, but would want ILB Davis Harris in the trade.  Harris has been a stellar backer for the Jets, and I Would do that trade straight up.  No Andra Davis, and a really solid group of LB's is what we would have.

Mile High Report Orton and Sims both ready by week 1

According to PFT, both Orton and Sims will be ready to go by sept 13. at Cincinati.  This should be a relief for everyone think Brandstater would get the nod.  Simswouldbe very limited in the pocket, however, Carson Palmer has a similar injury so he will not be able to scramble and avoid pass rushers very much.  Orton's finger will be well taped and wrapped.  He should be back throwing the ball pretty soon to prepare for the Bengals.

    Source:  http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/09/01/broncos-expect-orton-simms-to-be-ready-for-week-one/

and of course PFT puts a spin on it trying to make it look like the Broncos are'nt looking for a qb, but in fact are desperately seeking one.   And BTW O'Connel was just signed by Detriot i believe.

Mile High Report Hard Knocks: Bengals

Dont know how many of you have HBO or saw the premier of Hard Knocks with the bengals last night but they dont look good. Theyre o line is mediocre at best.  Thats a stretch too, with Andre Smith still out.  Carson looks good, but they already have two veteran TE's out.  Ocho Cinco looks good but Coles and co. for recievers are not very strong.

There defense has hype for some reason, but i think we have a better D.  There D line needs help.  Its young with potential, but there are no real experienced veterans there to help.  No consistent pass rushers.  Gathers isnt bad. Their safeties will be so easy to pass on Roy Williams hahah, he'll help the run game but hurt the pass game.  Their LB's will be good in the future, Dhani Jones is a solid veteran presence with the young USC boys.

Anyways, i think this is a great first game.  I think this team will be good against the pass, and thats all Cinci can do.  Theyre RBC is weak, its not even a commitee.   Orton should play well as well.

Just some thoughts after looking into the bengals and watching Hard Knocks.  Go Broncos!!

    Mile High Report Darcel McBath

Recently i have seen that David Bruton has been getting most of the reps at safety with the first unit.  And today Josh
Bell got some along with josh Barrett.  I really liked McBath's skills coming out of college, but hes not playing much from what i have seen/heard.  Anyone know how this guy is progressing so far in camp, or if he is just playing poorly.  I mean when our second round pick is sitting out to our fourth round pick, it doesnt look that good.  He is ballhawk just like   McD wants, but he isnt [playing much.  Anyone have any thoughts?

    Mile High Report Great video

Im sure most of you have seen some highlights and senior bowl notes about ayers, but this is a 3 minute video of Ayers domination.  Its been a little slow here with just training camp news and Knowshon stuff.  So heres just a reminder why we drafted the guy.  With him D-Reid, Doom and Moss, we should be much more effective in the pass rush.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVJYQ99Ufe4- Robert Ayers this is just senior bowl practices and game, and he looks unstoppable.

    Enjoy!

Mile High Report Madden 10 Rankings

In case you have not seen them.  Madden has released their team and player rankings.  Again the Broncos are downright disrespected.  Wait till you see Doom's ryan harris, eddie royal, and most of the other tating.  I mean i understand that the rankings for all players went down this year, but the Broncos got disrespect with these ratings, being a diehard bronco fan im pissed.

Mile High Report Broncos sign Nick Greisen

Former Baltimore Ravens linebacker Nick Greisen agreed to a one-year contract today with the Denver Broncos, according to a league source.

In seven NFL seasons, Greisen has recorded 255 career tackles and one sack.

Greisen, 29, was released earlier this offseason by Baltimore one year into a three-year, $4 million contract that included a $1 million signing bonus.

The Ravens saved $716,000 against the salary cap by parting ways with Greisen.

A former New York Giants fifth round draft pick from Wisconsin, Greisen is known as a tough reserve linebacker who’s adept at special teams.

Honestly, i think we have enough depth at linebacker, especially with the Rookie FA's we signed.  This guy has experience in a 3-4 though.  It will be very interesting to see which players on defense make the 53, which are cut, and which are on the practice squad.  We have a lot of depth at all the defensive positions, and mediocre talent.  It will be fun watching which players win over the coaches.

    Mile High Report Defensive Line

Ive been reading just about eveyone's mock draft so far, and i have to say most of them i completely disagree with.

I know Raji might not be available at 12, and there are no nose tackles of value until round 2 with Ron Brace.  If Brace is there at 48 and we didnt eg tRaji we have to pull the trigger.  I think some of you are missing the understanding of how we should build a great defense.  Here are the top 10 defenses in rush yards allowed last year:(yes next to playoff status means top ten in points allowed)(d tackles or nose tackle next to yes or no)

    1.  Minnesota-playoffs-yes-Williams Bros

    2.  Steelers-playoffs-yes-Casey Hampton

    3.  Ravens-playoffs-yes-Ngata and Gregg

    4.  Philly-playoffs-yes-Patterson, Bunley

    5.  Bears-no playoffs, Tommie Harris

    6.  Titans-playoffs, Haynesworth, Tony Brown

    7.  Jets-no playoffs-Kris Jenkins

    8.  Skins-no playoffs-yes-Cornelius Griffen, Montgomery

    9.  Giants-playoffs-yes-Fred Robbins, Barry Cofield

    10.  Fins-playoffs-yes-Jason Ferguson

7 playoff teams, 2 that missed by 1 gmaes, and a decent skins team.  Stopping the run wins games.  And 7 of those top ten teams in rush yards allowed were also top ten in points allowed.    Besides the skins and fins thas a pretty elite group of d tackles as well, and im not even listing defensive ends.  My point is the importance of having a two-gap stopper in especially as a nose tackle in the 3-4.  Gettin Maualuga and Maybin will be ok.  But they will be not living up to their potential w/o good big men up front.  Plus we have pretty solid OLB's anyways, DJ, Doom, Moss, Woodyard.  Our only nose is Ronald Fields.  Thomas can play nose in passing situatuions but man i dont think i can stress enough the importance of a Nose tackle in the 3-4.

So with that being said, heres my mock draft:

    12.  Bj Raji-NT

    18.  Tyson Jackson-DE

    48.  Louis Delmas-FS

    79.  Scott McKillop-ILB

    84.  Cedric Peermen-HB

    114. Lawrence Sidbury-OLB

    140. A.Q Shipley-C

    185.  Graham Harrell-QB

    225. Patrick Turner-WR

    240.  Bradley Fletcher-CB

Mile High Report B Dawk's Broncos mock draft

For those of you who love play in the trewnches and believe it all starts up front, you have come to the right mock draft.  I'm a firm believer that your D line reflects the way your entire defense plays.  Looks at the great defenses over the decade, The Vikings-argueably best d line, Titans, w/Haynesworth very good, Steelers, Patriots, Ravens(although they are just good all around), and oh yah the Giants who won a SB from the D Line play, even the Chargers, and the Bears and jags from a couple years ago.  The Jags trade away Stroud, now i dont want to say he was the reason for their downfall, but he was a major contributor on the team.

The Broncos have No defensive lineman with 5 technique(what 3-4 d ends play) experience.  I think Thomas can be a solid player, but Clemons and Peterson arent exactly very good.  Peterson played well towards the end of the year, and we have no idea if Crowder can fit in.  If fields is your ideal for play at Nose we will have another .500 or below season.  I dont just go by stats but his stats arent impressive and hes not an overly big body.  At 6'2'' 315 hes not gonna bring teams fear.  And Jon im aware of all the great talent next year, but didnt u hear Dawkins and McDaniels, we want to win now, I want to win now.

Anyways with that aside heres my 2009 Broncos draft:  with no trades, personally i feel if Raji's not there at 12 we have to trade down to around 20

    1. 12th pick-Brian Cushing(OLB, USC) Like u Jon, i love his blue-collar look, and great work ethic.  This guy loves the game of football and never stops playing.  Also, We dont know where DJ or Boss Bailey are playing. Usually the weak backer is not a pass rusher, so currently in my eyes the only inside backers we have are Davis, and Larsen, although i do think DJ will play middle.  Anyways, my point is Cushing verastility, this guy is blessed with great speed, strength, and size to play inside or out, and we could use his versatility.  I dont think Raji will be here, but if he is i wouldnt waste a second picking him.

    2.  48th pick-Ron Brace(NT, BC) Same story, of course if we take Raji first then i would plan on taking an OLB at this pick, most likely Stintim because Barwin will be off the board.  But Brace is the run stuffer we have all been looking for.  A two down Nose, but i do think Thomas and Peterson are good 3rd down Nose tackles.

    3.  76th pick-Jarron Gilbert(DE SJS) at 6'5 290 this guy is an animal, extremely athletic, had 22 TFL this past season, and would be an ideal fit for one of our starters at 5 tech D end.

    4.  114th pick-Cecil Newton(OG TSU) like the pick and believe he fits well under thezone blocking/or similar scheme McDaniels is putting in.  Athltetic and strong, i like your pick of Shipley, but i keep reading about his short arms and height, plus i really would love to get Gilbert in round 3 or Moata 1 or the two.

    5. 140th pick- Jasper Brinkley(ILB USC) At 250 lbs. this guy still fly's around the field, and plays in great SEC competition.  This pick is very early in round 5 so he should be here, McKillop is also a very good action who have over 130 tackles and over 17 TFL's.  Both i think will be good NFL players.

    5.  149th pick- Darcel McBeath(FS TTU) six picks 7 deflections at safety, and has the speed and coverage skills(as proven above) to play some corner, possibly in our quarter packages.

    6.  185th pick-Patrick Turner(WR USC) i love his size, especially with the potential absence of Marshall he gives us a big target.  I like Aaron Kelly for one of our fifth rounders, but Brinkley and the fourth-fifth round corner and safety prospects are a step ahead of the late rounders.

    7.  225th pick-Antonio Dixon(NT the U) at 6'3 330 whats not to love.

    7.  235th pick-Devin Moore(HB Wyoming) the speedy guy has late round talnet and i think he would be a steal here.  I would love a Darren Sproles out of the backfield, plus with 27 reps of 225lbs. hes got strength.

Arite well there it is Jon, i really like this draft a lot, and would like it even better going Raji at 12 and Stintim at 48.

Some FA's id like to look at Chirs Woens and Allen Langford at corner, depth at guard, a kicker, and other talent we feel we cant afford to give a try.
