Jarrett Jack has a reminder for the kids: Safety First!
Not sure if anyone has seen this, given the recent shot to the gut we've all taken, but an old friend gives us something to laugh about. Thanks, JJ.
Time to make a move?
The Dispatch is reporting that Klesla will now be out a minimum of 6 weeks. Along with the torn groin muscle, he's got a torn stomach muscle that could require surgery. As we know, the Olympics are causing teams to compress their schedules and this is going to leave us without one of our top D-men for a long time.
Howson has been quoted as saying he's not currently active in the trade market but its not out of the realm of possibility. So what could he be asking for? Does he want a defensive defenseman who can shut down the top guys in the league, or an offensive minded guy who can push the puck with Russell and put pucks in the net?
The Jackets currently have 9.545 million in cap space. This is plenty of wiggle room to pick up a solid top 4 defenseman. Money shouldn't be an issue, even with a number of players eligible for free agency. RFAs include Boll, Blunden, Picard, Sestito, Stralman, and Roy; UFAs are Modin, Torres, MacKenzie. Of these players, I really only see 5 maybe six given new deals.
Rusty out 4-6 weeks
This is a huge sigh of relief. Rusty sounded like he just had his leg amputated last night.
Get well soon #97!!!
Periodic table of Blazers
A buddy of mine that I work with is a huge Cavs fan, but just sent me this link. I think I know a city that might appreciate it. Enjoy!
November schedule - with Poll
Has anyone else looked at the upcoming schedule lately? Looks to me like a real cake walk.
Of our next six opponents, only one has a winning record, and barely winning at that (Chicago - 6-4).
4 of the next six opponents have at least twice as many losses than wins:
- Golden State (3-8)
- Minnesota (1-11)
- New Jersey (0-12)
- Memphis (3-8)
Needless to say, they're bad. Two road games bookend 4 at the Garden.
For my fellow stat nerds out there, Portland is allowing 87.5 PPG which is the lowest in the league. Some other numbers to look at...
- Portland is outscoring their opponents by 7.2 PPG which is 3rd in the league
- 6th in the league in blocks
- 4th in opponent 3PT%
- 2nd in the league in REB allowed, including 1st in defensive rebounds allowed.
None of our opponents rank higher than the Blazers in any of the above categories. This just shows how dominant our big men are, and how important they are to the team.
I really like our odds to finish November strong and go 14-2 in the month. The next 6 games are coming against teams that are either desperate, or fighting to stay afloat in their divisions. Losing Outlaw sucks, but look at November as a extra practice for whoever gets his minutes. It will be a real testament to the depth, and ability of this team if they finish November 6-0. I think its possible. Do you?
Yahoo! Sports recap of last night's game
I can't believe Ray Lewis calling out Quinn for a "dirty hit" Pot to kettle, come in kettle, you're black. Not to mention Trevor Pryce "questioning Mangini's motive in running a dangerous play." Its no more dangerous than throwing for the endzone.
Cribbs shows his classy side
Amongst all the coach bashing, practice ridiculing, back and forth, and negative everything surrounding this team, J. Cribbs' gesture is something to admire.
Jackson dealt
Who is the real winner here: The Warriors? The Bobcats? or Stephen Jackson?
Nash's sick SO goal
Does this beat out the wicked goal he scored against Phoenix?
Camo jerseys for Veteran's Day
Scroll down a bit, and you'll see that Chicago will be wearing these neat little jerseys to commemorate Veteran's Day. Anyone have any idea if the Jackets will be following suit? I think it would be rather fitting for the Blue Jackets to do this.
Padilla shot
Well, this offseason is already off to a rip-roaring start. Is it time for Spring Training yet?
Interest is growing in Columbus
Short article about the overall state of attendance for the Jackets, as well as around the league.
A Look at Former Jackets
I'm hoping this will be a monthly thing that I can share with everyone. I want to take a look at some Blue Jackets alums and how they're performing this season.
Lets do this.
Just when you thought we hit the bottom of the barrel
OK. This is getting rediculous. Its official, nothing will ever go our way...
Filatov the Enforcer?
Hitch says Filatov will dress in either Calgary tonight or Edmonton on Thursday. In an attempt to add a more physical style to his repertoire, Filatov has targeted the victim of his first NHL fight.
NOT GOOD
Going to be a long 4-6 weeks...
A dream come true and other good news
Portz says Vermette and Brassard switched spots on the top 2 lines.
Filatov - Brassard - Voracek
This is a scoring line that can only be imagined in a dream............or NHL 10.
Also, Boller appears to be ok and could play Thursday night. This makes one of two things true, a) Boll is part machine and b) Darcy Hordichuk hits like a girl
2009-10 Columbus Blue Jackets!
Puck-rakers just announced all the roster moves have been made and we have our 23!
Sigalet and MacKenzie have cleared waivers and are headed to Syracuse, while Roy and Picard on stil on waivers. Calvert has decided to return to Manitoba to the Western Hockey League.
Go Jackets! and March on!!!
9 cuts made today
From our dear pal Portz, at the Dispatch. My guess is Skoula gets the 7th d-man position, unless Howson is making a deal for someone else. 3 more cuts need to be made this week. Anyone wanna guess who is next?
Andra Davis...remember him?
Our first look at the former Brown is Sunday. It won't be the same not seeing him in Brown and Orange.
The year we've all been waiting for
Lots of good content on NHL.com. From a season preview, by GOOD writers, to a look at John Moore. Also, for the stat nerds in all of us they put up an article regarding some numbers you don't normally look at, plus highlights! Enjoy!
Jackets Depth Chart
From Yahoo! Sports. No Modin? No Filatov? Take this with a grain of salt.
New season brings new Website
Just an FYI to all the Blue Jackets fans out there. They've revamped the website. Take a look!
Chatting with Filatov
Fun interview with Nik. He talks the KHL, living on his own, his first career hat trick, and more!
Poll: What will it take?
I feel that this organization has always had something to prove; having to show they were as good as anyone else in the league. But, suffering from inconsistant play, and bad...awful coaching and managing, held the Blue Jackets back for years. Last year a statement was made when we finally got the playoff monkey off our backs. Their message: We're not going to let you push us around anymore.
By far the most successful season in club history, a number of team records were broken. One of most impressive feats, in my eyes was going undefeated against Colorado who we all know has a very distinct win/loss record against Columbus (8-22-2).
Your All-time Blue Jackets team
This is simple. If you had the option to create your own All-time Blue Jackets team, who would be on it? Pick a starting goalie, blue liners, and forwards. The only catch, you can't use anyone on the current roster. Use any criteria you want like...career stats, speed, strength, toughness, finesse, fan favoritism, or just make it up. Most importantly, have fun with it.
You can find everyone who has called themselves a Blue Jacket here.
OK to Philly
Our old pal OK Tollefsen has signed a one year deal with the Flyers. The team projects him to be a 6th-7th defender.
