Big 12(10) becomes MLB
If the Big 12 moves forward with the 10 remaining schools, I think this will ultimately be a disaster for Tech for a couple of reasons. First, I think the Big 12 Lite is ultimately a doomed conference in much the same way the SWC was. Now, with the Pac 10 likely to add Utah, there will only be four spots left there and assuming UT and A&M kiss and make up, 2 Texas schools (UT and Aggie) and two OK schools leaves us stranded at the altar.
Second, this push by Texas will result in them maintaining their unequal share of conference revenue while also being able to start their own network to further widen the gap. For however long it takes for the Big 12 Lite to crater, our conference will become the college football version of baseball, where the Yankees and Red Sox of the world start every season with the inside track to a title. As I'm sure you all know, for many if not most of the teams in baseball there is almost no chance of realistically competing for a title as a direct result of the huge financial imbalance in the league. So it will be in our Big 12 Lite as the rich get richer and the rest of us hope for that once in a lifetime alignement of the stars when we have a shot to compete (2008 season).
I hate to sound like a pessimist, but If the Big 12 Lite is our conference, I'm really worried about the future for us.
Thanks Captain Leach
I don’t want to make any comment on the Leach firing. I hate that it happened, but what’s done is done and I hope Tubbs is able to take us to the next level.
That being said, with all the conference realignment talk that’s going on, I thought it would be appropriate to send a thanks to the old Captain.
It is hard for me to imagine that we’d be in a position to receive an invite along with UT and A&M from the PAC 10 folks if Leach hadn’t put our football program on the national map and made us relevant in a way that we simply weren’t in the past.
So, thanks again Captain.
