Houston Astros Hire Kevin Goldstein

Goldstein is now the Coordinator of Pro Scouting for the Houston Astros. I'll miss Goldstein on Twittter. I think it's a gutsy move for Houston to hire a guy with Goldstein's background. HIs farewell to Baseball Prospectus is here:

Streak helping Barney to close in on gold

Can Darwin Barney win a gold glove? Baseball reference has been giving him a great defensive WAR all year: 3.5 defensive WAR, 4.6 overall.

Miami Marlins Need To Make A Run At Alfonso Soriano

This Miami writer thinks Soriano would be a good fit for Miami. I'll give Alfonso credit for a good season, especially on defense. But if you get a good deal for him--do it.

Bob Brenly: You were a good hitter

Brenly likes to joke about his playing days, but Fangraphs proves he was pretty good.

Cubs breaking it all down on video

Interesting article by Patrick Mooney about how the Cubs will now be using more video analysis. Another thing that makes me say, "You mean they weren't already doing anything like that?"

The Don Zimmer ‘Zim Bear’ Will Haunt Your Kids’ Dreams

Cubs go to bat for Santo

From the Daily Herald. We all know the arguments on both sides. I’m just glad to see the organization get behind Ron’s candidacy. I don’t know if previous administrations got involved in this. Having Billy Williams and Dave Van Dyck on the committee can’t hurt.

2003 Cubs/Marlins featured in online game

3 minute Strat O Matic is an online baseball mini-game based on Strato O Matic baseball. There is also an I-phone app available. They update the teams every so often, and this version features the 2003 Cubs/Marlins. You match each Cub hitter (Glanville, Lofton, Alou, Simon, Sosa) against a Marlin pitcher (Beckett, Willis,Redman, Pavano,Urbina) and see how many points you can score. I was surprised that they picked Glanville for a game that does not include fielding, until I remembered he has written about being a Strat O Matic player.
