Question about 2010 Rookie Contracts
I know with the CBA expired players currently under contract can only receive new contracts that are at a maximum 30% raise from their existing contracts. That makes sense, but what I am wondering now is what about the new rookies that are going to be drafted?
The top picks are going to get tens of millions of dollars in base salary and signing/other bonuses. The bonuses are mostly prorated over the length of the contract to minimize the cap hit per year of the contract so that the team can stay under the salary cap and still pay the rest of the team. Since this year is uncapped, I am trying to figure out if these new contracts can pay all of the bonuses this year, while it is uncapped, and therefore have lighter cap hits when a new CBA is agreed on. This would help every team in that if they draft a $50 million bust, their cap hit is lower in the next few years if they give up and cut him.
This is just something I thought up and I haven't heard anyone bring this up on TV or in an article, so that means either it cant be done and I'm wasting my time or no one has really thought about it. What do you think?
Need Some Mock Draft Help
I didn't see any of these posts recently on your blog, so I thought I would ask for your help. I am a member of Bleeding Green Nation, the Philadelphia Eagles SBN site and have been assigned your number 20 pick in our mock draft. I have watched some Texans games but I cant say I know all that much about your team. I read through some posts arguing for and against Ryan Mathews as well as a corner or defensive help. Please comment and let me know your feelings on the subject and I will be sure to post my mock pick for your team here on Battle Red Blog once it is posted on BGN. Thanks again for your help, and good luck this season.
Flozell Adams Released
bittersweet in that no eagles will get tripped and injured by this punk, but now the cowboys might get better at the position in the offseason/draft
"I'd like to thank my hands for being so great, but I guess they can't do everything, like pay child support."
per PFT, FredEx (not ours, well, maybe ours) arrested for not paying child support
The Great Debate 2009
Ever since I've joined BGN there have been people who disagree on topics, and quite honestly, that's what this forum is for. Some arguments have never been settled or properly given enough attention, so that is what this post is about.
If you got a gripe with another member, call em out here. Want to debate Joe_D on McNabb v Kolb, EvilBanner on Reid v 13 copies of TimeCop on VHS, NPK on who QB Caption winners should be, or me on anything. Let's do this. Consider this BGN's "Airing of Grievances" for Festivus.
BTW, I intentionally left JIBTA out of my examples because I believe he cannot have a structured argument/debate with anyone. Call him out if you want, but I think we all know where any kind of debate with him is going.

What if Reid Pulled a Fisher?
Jeff Fisher recently 'apologized' for wearing a Peyton Manning jersey to a charity event with former Colts' Head Coach Tony Dungy. At first, I thought it was funny (especially since he said I just wanted to feel like a winner) but I started to think 'what if Andy Reid did this?'
What if Big Red wore a Eli Manning or Romo jersey to a charity event? I would be pissed to say the least. I doubt he would ever do such a thing, but thinking about the Fisher joke applied to your home team and its division should bring some much needed perspective.
Tell me what you think.
Rookie of the Week?
someone tell me how Knowshon won without scoring a TD?
Braylon Edwards Traded to the Jets

Miami Injury Report
As per SI.com, several Miami players are listed in their injury report for tomorrow's game.
McNabb officially out
According to the all knowing ESPN
McNabb is out resting his rib and Kolb will get his first NFL Start.
Most, if not all, of us saw this one coming and now we get to see Kolb start after a week with practicing with the 1s, for better or worse. I am skeptical of Kolb but never wanted to rule him a bust already, but I will admit it is kind of hard not to. This is your chance buddy, dont let us down.
Yahoo Sports Fantasy Football
Reminder: Those of us playing FF on BGNs Yahoo League the draft is tonight at 8pm Eastern, 5pm Pacific
Great Interview with BBV
Our own JasonB had a nice interview with the Big Blue View Editor-in-Chief about expectation next year, the draft, free agency, and comparing players. The discussions include a general agreement that the Eagles and Giants are now the class of the NFC East, but there isn't much separating any of the NFCE teams.
They also had a good discussion comparing Maclin to Nicks and the perceived issues with trading picks with division rivals.
JasonB did a great job representing us from BGN and a lot of good infomation was shared. Thanks man!
Everyone should check it out here

Sheldon to Report to Camp
From the Philadelphia Inquirer
Sheldon talks about being a locker room leader in this article, acting out against the team, and about being a professional.
"I'm the leader on the football team, and it's bad for players to see me in a situation where I'm not happy. But I'm not going to blow up the NovaCare Complex. I'm not going to be one of the guys who puts on a show week in and week out when the media comes to my locker."
Glad to hear he doesn't plan on using any explosives during camp and he won't be complaining to the media every chance he gets, well, minus telling the media that he is unhappy but not going to tell the media when they talk to him again.
Sorry, But another Peters Post
Eagles fan here, wondering how you guys think Peters will play now that he has been (practically, only have to finalize it) traded and going to get a new contract?
Is he going to be a powerhouse like he was before, or closer to the 11.5 sack season player from last season?
I looked at a lot of posts here and couldnt find a good set of answers, but your input would be appreciated.
BTW, for ur OT issues, i would recommend taking Britton with our #28 and if he is healthy, talking to Jon Runyan seeing if he play 1-2 seasons for you. He is a great player, always gives everything he has, and still has a few years left in him.
VT Blog
I know you guys must be busy but I was wondering if a blog for Virginia Tech is on the list. I know there are a lot of pro teams and many many more colleges, but the ACC is underrepresented for the number of schools, ranked teams, students, alumni, and everything else. If there is anything I can do to help just let me know. Thanks. BTW, I have to say I love these blogs and only wish I found them sooner.
Runyan an option?
I stumbled on this article and i have been wondering the same thing for a few weeks now.
http://www.yardbarker.com/nfl/articles/Eagles_could_re_sign_Runyun/591572
Basically, Jon Runyan is still rehabbing his knee (and every other body part he sacrificed over the years) and is on schedule to come back in time for training camp. The article suggests the Eagles could resign him if he is healthy then and move him to RT for the last few years in the league.
I think this could be a great option if the FO isn't sold on the OT prospects that could fall to them in the draft, while giving the Eagles some flexibility with the OL in making sure the best people fill the best spots in the line (not to mention adding some good depth).
The Eagles wouldn't need to trade for Peters or pick up a OT early in the draft, giving them more flexibility and possibly picking up some OL in the middle rounds to work with and mold.
So what do you think?
