The Time is NOW for Lou to Go!
On October 16, 2006 I was about as excited as most of you regarding the hiring of Lou Piniella as the new manager of our Cubs. We finally hired a winner. Someone who did not tolerate mediocrity and would not accept the 'loser Cub mentality'. We were spending money and putting a better product on the field. Now we added a Manager with bonifide World Series experience with a winning tradition. Lou's quote on that day was "I'm basically a blue-collar-type manager that believes in a good work ethic, preparation and a desire to win a baseball game". That next season was great...and it reminded me of the 1984 Bears or 2008/2009 Blackhawks. A great season that ended in disappointment but left great hope for the following year. 2008...what a fun season. We were destined to win...no? I sat in the bleachers for over 40 games and had a blast....then :::poof::: the season was over! That was this teams chance. That was Lou's chance. We lost. He lost.
Last season was frustrating but overall, I was still in disbelief that we lost in 2008.
This Cubs team has 'jumped the shark' and it is time to make drastic changes.
Should Hendry go? Yes, I believe so.
Should we dump salaries? Yes.
But before we dump players and give up on the season, the manager should go.
The team has shown a poor work ethic, a lack of preparation, and an overall lack of desire to win a baseball game.
The time is now.
