Battle Red Blog Is it too much to ask?

I saw it coming a mile away and yet here it is, the Boo-Birds out in full force.  The people that just joined this site and are commenting on "Kevin Walters" and "Owen Daniel" are exempt since frankly until they stick around a while I don't know if they are knowledgeable fans or not.  The fact of the matter is that everyone with common sense knew the Texans had a rough first 6 games and I read frequently things such as, "I'll be happy with 3-3 or thrilled with 4-2 after the Ravens game."

For real? You guys already forgot?  Go check the BRB Pickem site that gets updated every week.  most of you figured we'd have lost 2-3 games by now.  It's a football season, these things happen.  You guys all had boners when the Texans had their 3 wins in the first third of the season last year.  This year with a Defense that literally melts my  brain with how vastly improved it is, and an offense that is more or less the same, it's the freakin' Apocalypse even tho everyone complaining admits that over the next 10 games, Atlanta, and their #30 pass defense, might be the hardest team we play.  It's still conceivable that we go 12-4 and i'm not even joking.  Teams go on streaks all the time, and we have a good team despite what your raging post game armchair quarterbacking emotions tell you.  A win vs. the BESF's will go a long way to get the momentum going.

As for calling out players, it's horseshit and every single person reading this knows it.  We don't have Kyler Boller at QB.  we have a guy who is capable and knows the system.  I get mad at Dropcoby just like the next guy, but through the seering hatred of imagining him drop footballs in my sleep, I know that he has the physical tools to get the job done, which he did a much better job of during the Ravens game.  You win and lose as a team, which means (and i'm sorry to all the die-hard haters who would die without someone to be mad at) Schaub is not the problem.  He had a good game today.  He wasn't Aaron Rodgers, but he's also not the steaming pile of fecal matter that people are trying to make him out to be.  People see a pass that hits the ground and the crying begins, despite the QB and WR motioning that said WR was supposed to come back for the ball.  People see a ball go too high and their tears cloud their judgement that the pass may have been picked off had it been lower, and a sack if held on to.

As fans we want to be happy with our team.  I literally found joy in watching the game.  A win woulda been awesome, no doubt, but we all expected to lose anyways (for the most part, we admitted it as a strong possibility).  I found joy during the loss by watching our front 7 go after Flacco with Shovels, Rakes, and Implements of Destruction.  They needed a spatula to peel his body off the ground we hit him so much.  Our secondary played very well, all things considered.  "but! but! what about that deep bomb!!!!1?".  You guys wanna know what a blown coverage looks like? Go order the NFL Films documentary on the 2010 Houston Texans and get past your amnesia.

Please, by all means, don't let me strip you all of your right to an opinion, but also please stop with the boring posts about how such and such blows and how we need to do something desperate, or how our team sucks and the coach needs to go.  If it wasn't for Tom Brady, Bill Belichick would be the nobody he was before he got the Pats gig, a fired coach with a shotty track record.  You know how many Tom Brady level QB's there are right now? 4 or so? and yet those teams don't all reach the Super Bowl.  We don't need Krishna to take the ball from under center and hand off to Moses, who receives key blocks from the starting 2 WRs; Zeus and Allah, to be a good football team.  We have the players. We have the coaching.  It's not perfect, but it's a far cry better then the Cardinal's team that blew ass during the regular season and made it to the Super Bowl.  Is it too much to ask for the haters, doubters, and trolls to just see how things go this year?

(for all you tl;dr's, stop whining so much and use the thing between your ears and remain level headed instead of crying about a decent but imperfect start up against 2 teams that are Super Bowl contenders.)

Battle Red Blog Pre-Season Recon: New York Jets

Gang Green Nation Pre-Season Recon: New York Jets vs Houston Texans

Hello Gang Green Nation! I'm BRH from SBN's Texans blog Battle Red Blog.  I figured I'd stop by your neck of the woods to discuss our somewhat friendly, somewhat meaningless exhibition coming up this monday with you guys.  Think of this as a Q&A.

Due to the popularity of Hard Knocks and an awesome head coach, your team is a media magnet.  The Texans on the other hand are often forgotten about by ESPN (probably because we're too cool).  I'm guessing that I can tell you more about the Texans than you can tell me about the Jets.  To me, the Jets are one of those teams I don't pretend to be a fan of, but I still root for; likely due to my extreme hatred of that long haired pretty boy douchebag Tom Brady That Douchebag Tom Brady and his coach, Darth Sidious.  Darth-sidious-bill-belichick_mediummy five questions after the jump!

Battle Red Blog BRB Staff, I have a question! (Puts hand up)

Hey so obviously it's just the preseason, but I've noticed some of our fellow SB nation blogs starting up cross-team posts playing Q&A with our misguided satan worshipers friends who root for lesser teams.  Seeing as how we got til monday, maybe someone with more (or less) credibility than myself could extend the olive branch to Snooki and Co. the New Jersey York Jets and maybe play "5 questions" or have an open Q&A forum like we do during the regular season.

I'm likely jumping the gun here and maybe someone had already planned on doing this, but whatever... I'm pleasuring myself physically to the thought of Texans Football in a few days in a full tilt football frenzy, thus impatient.

Granted if the NFL "Forums" are any indicator, this may be a bad move.  There are a LOT of really, incredibly dumb people that flock there. example:

Some people still talk about Plax shooting himself by accident. trust me on gameday, he's gonna be tearin up the Texans Defense "by accident". Who's gonna be laughing then?

A. He's not playing methinks.  B. We are an improved defense, so wake the F**k up.   C.  Good Luck

Battle Red Blog Let The Drooling (Re)Commence!!

Everyone's favorite pipedream from last year has found himself back on the market!  The Rams have cut safety O.J. Otogwe instead of picking up his 8 million roster bonus.  They've already franchised him and according to the article on NFL.com they aren't exactly swimming in cap room which is what lead to this decision.  So now that Ngata is off everyones wishlist, do we collectively begin drooling and craving an actual safety?  It would be our first ballhawk since the gamecock!

sorry... had to get the Vomit out... I'm gonna go gargle some Clorox. You fine gentlemen (and ladies) can discuss!

Battle Red Blog Small Bright Spot Smudged Out: Par For The Course

i'm not going to sit here and tell you guys that Sharpton is a pro bowler his rookie year like Cushing but he was an epic improvement over Adibi/Diles/Bently at playing linebacker, but according to the Mothership Sharpton is out for the year with a shoulder injury.  Obviously with one game left this doesnt have the gravity of losing a DeMeco Ryans or anyone else that's been IR'd but he's been playing pretty good for us compared to the other trash we leave at the curb.  According to the article he played the whole Broncos game after dislocating his shoulder.

figured i'd put this up since I hadn't seen anything about it around BRB.

Battle Red Blog TEXAS Vs NEBRASKA

I am aware that i am the smallest of minorities in the college football fanbases here at BRB.  Despite the fluent strings of my most choice 4 letter words that I may use during the game, I would like to thank UT for not displaying similar douchebaggery that our friends in Kansas, Missery, and especially Colorado tend to bring to the table.  Although Mack Brown has had our number, to some degree in thanks to Bill Callahan whom shall forever be known now and forevermore as Lord Voldemort and the retarded transitional periods he forced upon us, the games are usually hard fought and always exciting.

I have the wonderful fortune to be best friends with a guy whos family is season ticket holders and i will be getting to go to the game and watch from about halfway up and behind and to the right of the goalposts.  NU faithful are still pretty pissed about the way K-State fans treated our traveling fans and despite my kind words, everyone here is aware that we both hate the hell out of each other.  Bo Pelini actually asked our fans to be "Nice" to those of you who make the journey to our Memorial Stadium which will be absolutely electrified (not to mention louder than piss).

May the game resemble Mike Tyson mercilessly beating an elderly woman with no arms and may Taylor Martinez, Rex Burkhead, and Roy Helu run all over the Longhorns!

Here's to an injury free game and A HUSKER WIN!

GO HUSKERS!

Battle Red Blog There Is A God! (PROOF!)

As of the Mothership's Story,

Line change: Wade Smith, an offseason free agent acquisition from the Kansas City Chiefs, will start at left guard in favor of Kasey Studdard on Saturday. Smith, Studdard, Antoine Caldwell and Mike Brisiel will rotate at the two guard positions for the first three quarters.

Kubiak goes on to say some more..

"He's got a lot of ability," Kubiak said of Smith. "He's shown flashes that he belongs as a starter-type player, but we're looking for the same consistency from either he, Kasey, Gump (Caldwell) and Brisiel. We're continuing that battle and they've all been good, but we're looking for the two that are going to be great."

and as a final noteworthy tidbit,

Brisiel also will take snaps at center in the third quarter with Brett Helms sidelined by an injury. Kubiak said that Myers, who played well in the preseason opener, has not locked up the starting center job at this point.

My Vikings fan friend often hears me talking about the latest news and funnies on BRB and i just found out he's never heard of the Travis Johnson Trent Green incident. naturally i had to show him the TJ body part monologue.  (I know it didn't originate on BRB) but i can't find it at all..  if any of you fine gentlemen could assist me with a link it'd be much appreciated.

Battle Red Blog Madden 11 Player Ratings Released

I am aware that many of the readers here at BRB are a bunch of Old Hillbillies people who have jobs and lives and probably don't care too much about the ratings a video game gives out... however for those that play sports games, the stats can be close to a measuring stick for different aspects of players.

Battle Red Blog McNabb Traded

other than NFL network finally getting something new to talk about and therefor putting the story on loop this actually kinda interests me from a Texans perspective.   We play both the Redskins and the Eagles on the road this year.  I don't know about you fellas but i feel a hell of a lot better playing the eagles without McNabb.  I'm sure Kolb is no slouch but he's a far cry from McNabb in my book until he proves himself on a more consistent basis.  This will make the Redskins (who are probably going to become Houston II, much like we basically mimicked Shanny's Broncos before he got canned.) more formidable, but he will be new to the team which has a lot less talent than the Eagles did.

In summary, a formidable Eagles team will have a decrease in leadership and overall potency on offense the way i see it due to losing McNabb.  A mediocre Redskins team will become better but we should be able to take them down due to a lack of overall talent.

However this is the Texans so we will probably lose in overtime to the Eagles and get steamrolled by the 'Skins... course also being the Texans we will probably go 14-2 and win the Superbowl. For the record, let this be the first official "Calling" of a SB Victory this year,  eat dicks Colts    \(o_x)/Q__(>_<Q)   (thats the Colts getting F**ked up by an angry Texan, possibly Pollard on our way to sweeping them and bringing the all time record to 3-15?)

Battle Red Blog Need some assistance with finding something.

Remember the epic can of whoopass that Vonta Leach opened up on the packers secondary in week 14 of 2008 late in the 4th quarter when he caught that swing pass and turned it up field?  I can no longer find that video.  I've been looking all day but i really just can't find the sucker.  If anyone has footage of that game or knows where to find it, please give me a hand here.

Battle Red Blog NFL.com mock draft

well NFL.com has released their first round mock draft here.  It has us taking Safety Earl Thomas  but i'm not completely sure why.  Considering "Bucky Brooks - Analyst" thinks that Terrence Cody is going to be picked thirtieth (30th!) I am going to chalk this one up to the usual "Nobody knows shit about the teams that are not high profile dynasties".   Don't get me wrong, I think Thomas would be a good fit but i think if we're gonna draft secondary, we should get a CB first.  our safeties really are not as piss poor as they used to be thanks for the addition of testosterone.  We need Cody or a CB or G / C depending on what's available.     agree? disagree?

Battle Red Blog Tiny Glimmer Of Hope!

blah blah blah blah blah blah need more words blah blah blah blah blah blah fuck dunta and his alleged charity blah blah blah blah dicky justice's dad hit him so dont be too hard on the closet case blah blah blah blah j/k hes a retard blah blah blah this should be enough so here goes... Brandon Marshall will NOT be playing the Chiefs because ..... nobody knows why but McDanials :P   as seen on NFL.com.

This gives us a sliver of a better chance as we all wallow in misery that we are indeed cheering on and putting our hope in the Raiders and the Chiefs and a Bengals team who most likely wont be playing very hard.

Hope you all have a good new year and here's some pics to go out on!

The combined booze consumed by the average chiefs or raiders fan per game.

disregard the text... He's actually aiming for Bud Adams

Speaking of which... let's end with the King of Class himself

i'm kinda bored to lets have a proven scientific approach to get an answer here...  can we as people safely say "Fuck Dunta AND Bud Adams is Satan and that Corteland Finnegan is a douchebag leprechaun?

happy new year and GO CHIEFS/RAIDERS/BENGALS! (pardon me while i go throw up)

Is it factual to say that Bud Adams is Satan, Corteland Finnegan is a Douchebag Leprechaun, and Fuck Dunta?
