Btw, Emerman did answer your question.."Can Mundy play FS?"
Commented on Chicago Bears Pre-Training Camp Press Conference recap on Jul 23 2014, 7:48p - 4 replies
Sounds like Mundy Wilson as starting Safeties come Week 1. Wilson made a good choice in picking a team where he has the best chance to start.

Is there going to separate thread for the press conference? Please keep posting updates.

I would have Shea and Christian Jones as the 2 Linebackers on 3rd and long. They are the best coverage LBs Bears have on their roster today.

And Bears will likely put Chris Conte on active PUP list today. ESPN reported that Conte will miss part of the camp.

Kyle Orton!!! Bring back Neckbeard in a back up role. Dallas just released him and he gets to keep his huge signing bonus.

I suspect Trestman is still looking for someone who can run the plays Trestman had planned for Evan Rodriguez last year.

Thanks. It sounds like he got some kind of surgery done in December.

Good news for Bears regarding Adrian Wilson? Resident medical experts please enlighten us about this deformity. It definitely does not sound as bad as Achilles tear.

No, this is different. I have been using Emerman for some time and everyone understood what I meant. This is the first time someone is taking an issue.

I like the shorthand "Emerman" and so will keep using it.
Commented on Pre-training camp concerns and storylines on Jul 21 2014, 6:49p - 1 reply
Emerman refers to the top two decision makers on the Bears roster - Emery and Trestman = Emerman.
Commented on Pre-training camp concerns and storylines on Jul 21 2014, 6:43p - 2 replies
Mundy got to learn the position from Troy Polamalu. Who on the Bears roster can say that? MD Jennings? Danny McCray?
Commented on Pre-training camp concerns and storylines on Jul 21 2014, 6:02p - 1 reply
Don't believe everything Emerman say. They were just saying the right things. And they said Conte will have a chance to compete. They never said Conte has the starting job or has not lost the starting job.
Commented on Pre-training camp concerns and storylines on Jul 21 2014, 5:53p - 2 replies
Adrian Wilson is a Strong Safety. Ryan Mundy has backed up both Troy Polamalu and Ryan Clark when he was with Steelers. Mundy can play FS and the Bears website lists him as such.
Commented on Pre-training camp concerns and storylines on Jul 21 2014, 4:06p - 1 reply
Looks like Conte will not be ready for training camp. I suspected this would happen. I continue to believe he will start the season on PUP list and join the roster in Week 8.

NFC East will have a tough time this year as they play the NFC West - easily the best division in the NFL.

In a critical game situation with things hanging in balance, it is Trestman's duty to over-rule any obvious "screw up" call.

The mistake everyone keeps making in their arguments is that they think Tucker will be flying solo in 2014 just as he did in 2013. I don't think that is the case.
Commented on The 10 Most Important Bears of 2014 - #2 Mel Tucker on Jul 19 2014, 11:37p - 2 replies
I doubt any GM will give Mel Tucker a head coaching job. Ray Horton, Titans DC, will land a head coaching job before Mel Tucker. The trend is to hire coaches from the offensive side of the ball anyways.

Commented on The Bears Den: July 18, 2014 - Chicago Bears offseason news and notes on Jul 18 2014, 11:42a
I think Seattle could not afford to pay him anything close to what he wanted. So once that fell apart, Chicago was the best combo of money and chance to win.

Perhaps you should have read more about Jared Allen's contract. Allen's contract is essentially a 2 year $15.5 million.

Bears are stronger today at 3-tech than last year with Jeremiah Ratliff, Will Sutton, Lamarr Houston and Nate Collins. Great depth at that position.
Commented on How primed are the Chicago Bears for the future? on Jul 12 2014, 4:36p
Ratliff is just one piece. And he did sack Romo at Soldier Field last December. He will be extra ready for Cowboys again.
Commented on Henry Melton Talks About His Recovery And The Dallas Cowboys Defensive Line on Jul 12 2014, 3:43p - 1 reply
I expect a big uptick in volume on offense from last year. The talent ahead of Wilson will not matter.
Commented on Marquess Wilson will have a bigger role in 2014 on Jul 12 2014, 3:07p - 1 reply
Bears were wise to let Melton walk. The fact that he is still not 100% and is being held out is not a good sign.

Not sure where he will line up. But based on his plays last year, they like him on crossing routes.

A few things.. Marinelli never ran D in Chicago. He was a glorified DC who was really a D-line coach. Lovie Smith was a control freak when it came to defense because that is all he knew.
Commented on Will The Dallas Cowboys Defense Improve In Year Two Of Their 4-3 Scheme? on Jul 6 2014, 7:16p - 1 reply
You need some minimum strength and ability to throw the ball to even play back up in the NFL. Fales does not have it now.

You like strawman arguments? When did I say Lynch will get a roster spot just as a punt protector.

He did smash into Conte but before that he took out DJ Williams and his pectoral muscles for the rest of the season.
Commented on 2014 Chicago Bears: The Backup Situation and Other Questions on Jul 6 2014, 4:13p
There is no need to bring up Tebow here. And Lynch, in my opinion, is not competing with RBs. He is only competing against himself and convince Trestman/DeCamillis that he can be a multi-purpose player on offense and special teams.

Fales will be a practice squad guy. He needs to increase his arm strength to play in the NFL. All the reports rookie camp and OTAs agree on this point.

Bears are in the exact same position. Both Bears and Cowboys defenses were at the bottom last year. Let's see who make how much progress this year.

I think Dallas was/is a temporary stop for Marinelli till Lovie found a HC job again. And Lovie did try to get Marinelli to Tampa as soon as he became HC there. I believe Jerry Jones refused to let Marinelli out of his contract.

This is the first time Rod Marinelli will be fully in charge of anything after his 0-16 season with the Detroit Lions. It will be interesting to see how he does as DC.

Jordan Senn was a standout special teamer and ST captain for Carolina last year. DeCamillis will not let him go. Also, he was already taking some first team long snapping reps during OTAs.

FitSpeed, which he jointly owns with his trainer, is also a business for him. Getting Alshon, Marquess, Mike Evans to train there = more $$.

You don't have to choose between Greene and a CB if you carry 7 LBs and 27 total on defense. Offense can still be pretty loaded with talent with only 24.

You are crazy to think that they will give up on Khaseem Greene.

The assumption seems to be that any specialist LS will be as good as Mannelly. I am not so sure.

Agree with your point. It comes down to this: How much better a Brandon Hartson and Chad Rumpel is better than a versatile LS like Ryan Groy or Jordan Senn?

I agree with you on DJ. I think we will carry 7 LBs this year. DJ and Briggs are old and could get injured again.

One year like that is great but you need stats like that for a few years and a Super Bowl to get you in the top tier.

He won two Super Bowls for crying out loud. Who cares if he threw 27 INTs last year. The team's investment in him has already paid off.
Commented on Jay Cutler ranked 17th among his peers on Jul 2 2014, 2:54p - 2 replies
Flacco won the big game and was clutch during that entire playoff run. So that gets him a tier of ahead of Cutler. Winning the big game matters.

Sorry, Eli Manning made the throws when they needed to be made in those two Super Bowl wins. Justin Tuck or other star defenders were not making those throws.
