Ole Miss 2012 Gifts Demonstrate Extraordinary Generosity

+

From the linked article on olemisssports.com: "With the announcement today of $122.6 million in fiscal 2012 private support to the University of Mississippi, donations to the state's flagship university achieved the second highest year of giving in its 165-year history." Hotty Toddy y'all.

Finesse Middleton Chooses Rebels

6

Finesse Middleton (5'11" 255 lbs.) committed to Ole Miss on Friday night. The defensive end from Gadsden, Alabama, showed out in front of coaches at a camp in Oxford the previous weekend. Middleton has been offered by several schools, but it it believed that he has been overlooked because of his height. While he is reported by Rivals.com as being 5'11", he is rumored to actually be around the 6'1" mark. Regardless, Finesse impressed Freeze and Company enough to warrant an offer. Given the Rebels needs on the defensive line, Finesse is a welcome addition to the Rebels 2013 class. Congratulations, Finesse.

Athlete Williams Commits to Ole Miss

8

Charles Williams, an athlete out of Hialeah, Florida, committed to Ole Miss on Thursday. Williams (6'2" 180 lbs.) is rated by Rivals.com as a three star prospect with offers from over 20 schools, including Nebraska, South Carolina, Arkansas, and West Virginia. Originally being recruited as a defensive player, Coach Freeze and staff soon offered Charles the opportunity to play wide receiver, and this apparently was an opportunity that he didn't want to pass up. Williams is the 19th commitment for the Rebels 2013 class, and his offer sheet indicates that the Rebels got a highly coveted recruit. Congratulations, Charles.

Enemy of the Cup: Two Basketball Players Arrested

3

Per EotC Hugh Kellenberger, Ole Miss basketball signee Terry Brutus was arrested for a DUI early Saturday morning. Also, transfer basketball player Jason Carter was arrested on July 14 for possession of marijuana. Kennedy said that both punishments will be handled internally. On a related note: WTF GUYS GET IT TOGETHER WE DON'T NEED THIS SHIT RIGHT NOW ESPECIALLY FROM YOU JAMAL MOSLEY YOU WERE LESS THAN 50 FEET FROM A GOD DAMN BATHROOM /oxfordsummertimes

Hey Robert, can you at least let us pretend that we're still in it? K thx.

JUCO Cornerback Commits to Ole Miss

+

Hinds Community College cornerback Zachary Witchett committed to Ole Miss on Saturday. Witchett (6'1" 195 lbs.) chose the Rebels over Mississippi State, Oklahoma State, and Kansas. A product of Booker T. Washington High School in Atlanta, Witchett had committed to Georgia out of high school in 2011, but some off-the-field complications directed him towards junior college instead. He has played on both sides of the ball, and it is believed that he is athletic enough to play other positions on the field depending on the Rebels' needs in the future. Kudos to the coaching staff for picking up their fourth commitment of the week and congrats on the selection, Zach.

Recent Rebel commitment Devante Kincade is apparently making no secret about his school of choice. I've never been able to pull off the eye black look myself, but I've also never been invited to the Elite 11 quarterback camp. Hotty Toddy, Devante.

Daronte Bouldin Chooses Rebels

10

Daronte Bouldin, an offensive tackle from Canton, MS (Also known as the hometown of BeerMeAHottyToddy), committed to Ole Miss on Thursday afternoon. Bouldin (6'6" 310 lbs.) chose the Rebels over Mississippi State, Louisiana Lafayette, Arkansas State, and Tulane. Bouldin is a three star recruit, and he was recently named to the Clarion Ledger's Dandy Dozen list. His commitment gives Ole Miss two of the top three offensive lineman in Mississippi for the class of 2013. Ole Miss had been in the lead for Bouldin throughout his recruitment, and he commented that his decision was final. Congrats, Daronte.

Mullen

This picture was taken at SEC Media Days while Dan Mullen was eating alone at a Sbarro's Pizza because he has no friends. I was told this was right before he stood on a chair, whipped out a cowbell, and shouted, "THAT'S RIGHT MOTHER FUCKERS!!! CHAMPIONS ONLY AT THIS TABLE!!!!" Nick Saban then walked in and proceeded to dick slap him across the face.

Rebels Pick Up 15th Commitment

18

Bobby Hill, a cornerback out of Moultrie, Georgia, committed to Ole Miss on Tuesday after participating in a 7-on-7 event. Hill (6'0" 163 lbs.) has been a two way player at Colquitt County, but he is expected to primarily play on the defensive side of the ball in college. Hill joins Antonio Allen as the second defensive back in the Rebels 2013 class, and his 4.48 40 time will be a welcome addition in Oxford. Hill chose the Rebels over Kentucky, Purdue, South Florida, UCF, and Florida International. Congrats on the commitment, Bobby.

Ranking the SEC Football Coaching Jobs

2

Edward Aschoff of ESPN (and an Oxford native) ranks the SEC football jobs, and Ole Miss comes in at #11, just in front of Mississippi State and just behind Missouri. Oxford gets mentioned as "the quintessential college town, rich with history and a game-day atmosphere envied by many, thanks to the Grove," while Starkville gets a mention for being "a little out of the way for people." Well said, Mr. Aschoff.

Evan Engram Commits to Ole Miss

+

Evan Engram, a three-star tight end out of Powder Springs, Georgia, committed to Ole Miss on Thursday morning. Engram (6'3" 210 lbs.) is considered to be a "hybrid" tight end. Simply put, he's fast enough to be a big time threat in the passing game, and he has the catching ability to do some damage in Freeze's offense. Engram's stock has been rising as of late, but he stated that he is firm in his commitment to Ole Miss, regardless of any other offers he receives. As of now, Engram has offers from schools such as Navy, Wake Forest, and Air Force, and it is rumored that a UCLA offer is on the way. With the graduations of Jamal Mosley and Ferbia Allen coming after the 2012 season, Coach Freeze is most likely taking at least two or three tight ends in this class. Congratulations on being the first of them, Evan.

Great Article on Dan Werner

5

In this article, Eric Adelson of Yahoo Sports profiles Dan Werner, his family life, and the road that has led him to his second stint as a coach at Ole Miss. If you recall, Coach Werner tragically lost his wife Kim in 2009 and had been coaching at nearby North Delta School in Batesville before Hugh Freeze tapped him to be on his new staff. The article does a really great job of illustrating how Coach Werner grew through the tragedy and learned how to be a better father and a better man.

I can't abandon the team like that. The fans deserve us to play a regional at home, at Swayze Field, not College Station or Tallahassee. The fans are so good, we need to have one In Oxford. That's why I came back.

Good Read: Ole Miss - Mistress or Marriage

4

Courtesy of Russell Wilson on relativesports.com, this article blends the downtrodden feelings of a post-season Ole Miss fan with the slight but steadily building optimism of an off-season Ole Miss fan. You should read it because you will most definitely understand it; plus, it's the off-season so what the fuck else do you have to do?

ESPN Ranks the SEC Basketball Head Coaching Jobs

ESPN ranked the SEC Basketball jobs from "best" to "worst" one through fourteen. You know where we're ranked. The most humorous thing about this is that they have Arkansas ranked #5, which has led to some intelligent discourse angry ranting in the comment section.

Freeze Picks Up Two More Commitments

5

The first commitment on Thursday came from wide receiver Quadarias Mireles, who had previously committed to Ole Miss in February of 2010. Mireles (5'11" 185 lbs.) spent the past two seasons at Hinds Community College while getting his academics in order, and he currently has offers from Purdue and Oklahoma State. He plans on bringing his 4.4 40 to Oxford in December and will have two years of eligibility remaining. Mario Mathis, a three star outside linebacker, also committed to the Rebels on Thursday. Mathis (6'2" 225 lbs.) is from Thomasville, Georgia, and he selected the Rebels over Mississippi State, South Florida, and South Alabama. Mario missed most of his junior season with an ACL injury, but it is believed that he'll be fully healthy for his senior season. Welcome again, Quadarias and congrats on your decision, Mario.

Like Bitching About the BCS?

+

Of course you do! While college sports fans are surrounded by the greatness that is March Madness, many can't wait for the day that college football brings some sort of a playoff to December/January. The website BCSKnowHow.com is trying to compile a survey to find out what college football fans, writers, and bloggers want for their postseason. I saw it linked on ESPN and decided to take it for shits and giggles, and it was actually a really good way to waste time at work pretty entertaining. It starts by asking questions based on what type of postseason you would like to see, and it gives you other questions based on your answers (For example: I chose a playoff and on the next page it asked about the number of teams, whether there should be byes or not, where the games should be played, and what changes should be made to the current BCS formula). It should be pretty cool to see the results, and I figured I'd pass it along to my fellow Cuppers in case anyone else wanted to take a stab at it.

Introducing Ross Bjork: Ole Miss Athletic Director

+

This is a great article by someone who's spoken with Ross Bjork on several occasions and knows him personally. In the article, Chadd Scott describes Bjork as "progressive, accessible, energetic, and ambitious", and he talks about the need for the Ole Miss community to rally behind him. It might not reveal anything to you that you haven't already heard by this point, but it's a good read nonetheless.

Fran Tarkenton Sets Twitter Ablaze

3

I imagine that this is the first time that the words in the title of this FanShot have ever been written. Fran Tarkenton tweeted the following message Monday night: "BREAKING NEWS-The man himself #archiemanning just broke exclusive news 2 me: interviewing 4 Ole Miss AD job rt now!" Many on twitter took this to mean that Archie was currently interviewing as a candidate for the AD job (I assume that he would do this by standing in front of a mirror and asking himself questions while Mike Glenn waited patiently in another room). Those people then proceeded to tweet this as "Archie Manning being interviewed to be Ole Miss AD". The more rational explanation would be that Mr. Tarkenton meant Archie was currently interviewing a candidate for the AD position. Regardless, this has been a phenomenal day for searching the Manning name on the Twitters.

Nkemdiche to Announce on May 18

+

Per the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Robert Nkemdiche will make his college decision on May 18 at Irie on the Oxford Square after Grayson's final Spring scrimmage. While Alabama has long been considered the favorite, Robert spent this past weekend at LSU which he rated a "10" out of 10. Obviously, Ole Miss is the dark horse in the race due to the presence of Denzel Nkemdiche, and some actually feel that Ole Miss is in the lead. Regardless, Robert apparently knows where he wants to attend college, and Ole Miss football fans will either have a reason to be unreasonably optimistic or bitterly pessimistic with a full three months left before the 2012 season begins. Either way, it should be entertaining. Update via a tweet by Scout.com's Laura McKeeman: 2013 5-star DE Robert Nkemdiche just told me that #LSU is now his leader. #ThePlotThickens

Ole Miss Offers 2013 Recruit David Kamara

+

Obviously, I'm not going to make a FanShot of every 2013 kid we offer. However, if it's something mildly entertaining or important I always like to bring it to the attention of my fellow Cuppers. David Kamara is a 5'11" 185 lb. Cornerback out of Grayson High School. While Kamara is a good football player in his own right (and we always need Cornerbacks), he is also the teammate and best friend of a guy named Robert Nkemdiche. Robert has expressed interest in playing with Kamara on the collegiate level, and Kamara visited Ole Miss with Robert a couple of weeks ago. Ole Miss became the first school to offer him a scholarship, and while other schools in pursuit of Nkemdiche will obviously throw their hats in the ring with Kamara, it's always a positive to be the first school to offer a player. Congratulations on the offer, David. I hope to see you in the Red and Blue in 2013. (Update: Several hours after Ole MIss offered, David Kamara received a scholarship offer from Clemson. Get in line, Dabo.)

Freeze Gets Another One for Class of 2013

2

On Monday, Coach Freeze secured his third commitment for the 2013 class. Dannon Cavil, a wide receiver with offers from South Carolina, Baylor, Cal, and Clemson, chose the Rebels after meeting with Hugh Freeze and Grant Heard on Sunday. Cavil is really fucking big for a junior in high-school a big, physical receiver (6'5" 205 lbs.) that also has a 4.5 40 time, and he cited Freeze's offensive philosophy as one of the reasons for his early commitment.

Ole Miss Extends Offer to Chocolate Wilson

4

Ole Miss has officially extended an offer to 2013 Defensive Back Chocolate Wilson. Wilson (5'9" 160 lbs.) also has an offer from Purdue, and programs such as South Carolina, Alabama, Clemson, and LSU are currently showing him interest. OMG HIS NAME IS CHOCOLATE WE HAVE TO GET THIS GUY!!!!!1
