Thank you all. Information is Power
Maybe not the best avenue for this, but I wanted to say desite the sometimes bickering and silliness this is the BEST BLOG/SPORTS SITE On the web by far. I get more information and I look forward to a Lions resurrange with all of you and ythis great sight to be their. The reason I bring this is up is I was at my aunt's house before the Superbowl and the talk came to football (go figure). My cousin, a full grown adult then informed me that the Lions are getting rid of Stafford and making Stanton the starter. I look him in the eye, and as you know I may not the biggest Stafford fan, and said ... "show me the link."
"Huh?"
"Show me the place you got this information."
"Stafford missed all of last year."
"ALL?"
Thank you for not making me say utterly insane things.
Views from an otherwise quiet guy
I don't get to see every play of every game, I often work and catch it on break or one of the 7 million times I leave my work area to watch the television ...
Tha being said, these are some random thoughts of mind as I get home from work and digest what I haveseen the last few weeks.
Get rid of Drew Stanton, and find a new third. I am sure ShaunJill healing broken snapped arm and all can play to some degree but I sense a healthier body would be better for the position and the team. Most tems might rely on their third but as Stanton has proved he is not the guy for this team, this system. Send him packing.
While the door is open, Derrick Williams and ByranJohnson ... contribute nothing. Send them home.
Someone sit down and talkl with Amari. That (Now appearing worthless) link we all saw months ago from the Iowa Football blog talked about what a great tackler he is. It appears we were lied to.
Look into why I beleive every draft pick we have had over the last two drafts has missed time due to injury.
Stafford, Pettigrew, Delmas, Levy all have ...
Williams, hardly counts
Brown, I can't recall ... but I am pretty sure he did get injuried.
Follet has, Murtha is on another team ...
Suh has not.
Best has ...
Amari can't get hurt since he avoids contact.
Has any of our other picks , Willie, Fox, Toone (Oh yah injuried) even seen the field?
Sports Talk Radio Grrrrrrrr.
I need to vent a moment so please bare with me but the Detroit Lions don't get respect for their good or their bad.
In a small period of time, two subjects came up ... best NFL player of all time which sprang into most exciting running back of all time. Then worse - luckiest Executive in sports despite their resume due to the recent Isaish Thomas - Knick signings.
Hmmm most exciting back canidate - Barry Sanders?
Luckiest Sportts Executive depsite resume -- Matt Millen?
Naw ... Jim Brown, Emmitt Smith and Lane Kifin.
this is why this Lions blog community rocks ... at least we get it.
Emmitt Smith ... Good yes, exciting No ... Imagine if he did not have a hall-of-fame line in front of him. Barry Sanders making a PBandJ sandwich would be more exciting. The only way this will change in the media is if we win more games or join the NFC East. Just saying.

McNabb traded
Just heard McNabb was traded to the Redskins for their 37th pick in the second round, and a 3rd or 4th rounder next year.
What a bad trade.
But that also means He his not going to the Rams, if they want a QB they gotta draft em.

Prior drafts. A study in curiousity.
I'm a historian, well at least expensive papers I got from my local university tell me I am. IT was during last season that I discovered this great sight, and now make it as daily an act I can coming here and reading about the Lions and seeing what everyone has to say. Long winded explanation aside ... I see a lot of what people think about this draft, names, rounds ideas being bounced around ... I am curious about prior drafts, that this board may have been around for, and was their any names that were prominatily wanted, or not wanted, biggest surprises, things that looking back you can see the majority of you were right or wrong. Or even your own personal views in the last few years. I know this isn't on the 2010 draft, but up until this year I only had my friend to discuss this stuff with so I am curious if anything we thought matched up with the fans and the man-on-the-street experts.
Like we wanted ... the other Roy Willaims
Micheal Ohur
and we got pissed at the idea of Mike williams, Jordon Dizon and Gosder Childerus
I'm a curiuous Cat what can I say?
My First Ever Public Mock Draft.
My First Mock Draft !!!!!
This is exciting because I've never got to share these type of thoughts with people who have actual knowledge and brains. SO here goes ... Edition One.
Round
1 - S Eric Berry
2 - CB Kyle Wilson This with Delmas creates a secondary that will be killer for years to come. Wait, I know I'm the guy who said Line, Line, Line ... Wait for it
3 - DE Greg Hardy
4 - DT Vince Oghobasse
5 (1) - Either OG Eric Olsen or DE Koa Misi
5 (2) OG Brandon Carter, character, heart, insanity this guy is a must
6 QB Max Hall Because eventually Culpepper will accidently fumble himself off a peir, and Staton will releize everyone snickers when he talks about being a regular starter somewhere.
With this you got a revamped OL, DL, and Secondary ... with this our RB, and WR's will seem and be better.
Longest Droughts in Sports ... Part Deux.
The last post the other day looked at Championships, but ... the next step is ... you can't win anything if you don't even make the playoffs, so of the four major sports ... Who has the longest current Playoff Droughts.
1.)27 Seasons MLB Washington Nationals/Montreal Expos (Who had their best season the strike shorten season in which the World Series was canceled. Poor guys)
2.) 23 Seasons MLB Kansas City Royals.
3.) 16 Seasons MLB Pittsburgh Pirates
4.) 15 Seasons MLB Toronto Blue-Jays
5.) 14 Seasons MLB Cincinnati Reds
6.) 12 Seasons MLB Baltimore Orioles
7.) 10 Seasons MLB Texas Rangers
8.) 9 Seasons NFL Detroit Lions
9.) 9 Seasons NFL Buffalo Bills
10.) TIE 8 Seasons Florida Panthers NHL and Seattle Mariners MLB
The Longest streak in the NBA is 5 Seasons between the Knicks, Timber-wolves and Bobcats, but considering in Basketball and Hockey over half the teams make the playoffs. It was destined to be full of Baseball teams and even after the expansion the playoffs, it is a lot of the same teams over and over again. Oh congrats Yankees, sorry you had to wait so long for this one.
It is hard to believe as a fan its been 9 years since Satan in the body of a former NFL'er Matt Millen came to Detroit and with him came the locust and frogs, water to blood, his minion Granholm and by no coincidence the collapse of the auto-industry.
The playoffs would cure so much so a lot of these teams, including our Lions.
Longest Droughts in Sports. The Hope and the Dread.
I took the pinnacle of every franchise’s success (A championship) and compared every team among the four major leagues, NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB. Then listed them all from Longest stretch to shortest without a Championship. By franchise I take into account every location that team was in, an example would be the Arizona Cardinals, who won their last championship 61 years ago, but have been in Arizona since the 1980’s but this is more about the franchise then the city. I also count the years in St. Louis and Chicago and whereever else. (In making this list I also assumed the Yankees *have* won the 2009 World Series although this does not change the list really, The Yankees and Phillies were no where near the bottom of this list … hhowever it does add a season to all MLB teams)
The List of Longest Championship Droughts
1.) Was their any doubt the CHICAGO CUBS. MLB 101 Seasons.
2.) Cleveland Indians. MLB 61 Seasons.
3.) Arizona Cardinals. NFL 61 Seasons.
4.) Sacramento Kings. NBA 58 Seasons.
5.) San Francisco Giants. MLB 55 Seasons.
6.) Atlanta Hawks. NBA 51 Seasons.
7.) Detroit Lions. NFL 51 Seasons.
8.) Texas Rangers. MLB. 48 Seasons.
9.) Chicago Blackhawks. NHL 48 Seasons.
10.) Philadelphia Eagles NFL 48 Seasons.
Of these ten teams. The Texas Rangers, and Detroit Lions have never made it to their respective championships (In NFL I am counting the Super Bowl as current respective championship, although they did win the NFL championship many many many years ago, that was the old format, they have NEVER been to the Superbowl.) The Sacramento Kings since they won it in Rochester 58 years ago have not made it to the finals in any city, and the Atlanta Hawks only appearances in the finals where while they were in St. Louis.
The Eagles, Cardinals (Super Bowl) Indians, Cubs, Giants (World Series) Blackhawks (Stanley Cup)have all have in their current location been to the finals of their respective league since their last championship.
Of these teams, they is not a lot of hope of the losing tradition. The Eagles are decent and have their chances this year and few next, the Hawks are good, but would have to get by the Lakers, Celtics, and Cavaliers. The Arizona Cardinals until Warner retires and Blackhawks with some young talent have outside shots, (but the B-hawks should run into a Redwing buzz saw, once someone starts it up.) On the flip side …
I started this list and updating it back in 2006, I once finished I made the same list how it would have look ten years prior. (This would place it right before the Wings won the Cup that year.) there is noticeable change.
10.) TIE Atlanta Hawks, NBA. Detroit Lions, NFL. 39 years
9.) Detroit Redwings. NHL. 41 years. WON A STANLEY CUP
8.) San Francisco Giants. MLB. 43 years.
7.) Saint Louis Rams. NFL. 45 years. WON THE SUPERBOWL
6.) Sacramento Kings. NBA. 46 years.
5.) Cleveland Indians. MLB. 48 years.
4.) Arizona Cardinals. NFL. 49 years. FINALLY MADE A SUPER BOWL
3.) Boston Redsoxs. MLB. 78 years. WON THE WORLD SERIES
2.) Chicago Whitesoxs. MLB. 79 years. WON THE WORLD SERIES
1.) Chicago Cubs. MLB. 88 years.
Things do change for some but not for the others, the thing I think we will learn in the next few years after the Millen Era of Doom is ... Are we forever a Cub or King ... or are we wearing Sox? Wow, only in sports talk would that make any sense.
Lions forgotten by the National Media.
Now granted I try to get as much national sports print, radio, internet and television as I can I am in way indulging in it every day with school and work I do what I can. This year in the NFC I have noticed a trend in reporting, the Lions are a interesting part of. In the National Media, Minnesota, all four in the NFC East, and the New Orleans Saints are grabbing a multitude of headlines, discussion and frankly ramblings for both good and bad reasons. These six teams will be talked, written and thought about by everyone in sports a lot, to much maybe, but they are the kings of attention in the NFC.
Beyond that others teams are periodically including in the discussion. The Atlanta Falcons get some attention for their record. So have the Buccaneers, Panthers and Rams (Don’t forget Limbaugh!) but for more depressing bleak records. The Packers and Bears always have a share of the spotlight, due to history (The Cutler trade is still helping the Bears also in that regard) and the 49ers, and Cardinals for their battle in the West. Then, there are the Seattle Seahawks and Detroit Lions. The Lions after beating the Redskins have fallen almost completely off the national radar, ,and no one anywhere speaks about the Seahawks. These two teams have been forgotten by the pundits. I mean even having the number 1 pick play better then Sanchez, The Jets rookie dominates the young QB talk. The only reason I can see for this is … The Lions and Seahawks I think are destined barring some unforeseeable thing trapped in destiny.
The Vikings will win the North, the Bears will come in second and et eliminated from the wild card around week 15 or 16. The Packers will have a luke warm 3rd and the Lions will finish 4th, whether its one to five wins. In the west, the 49ers and Cards will fight for the division and the Cards will win it. The Rams will come in fourth, the Seahawks will get third, its almost locked in stone, and a lousy awful fourth place team will always get headlines over a luke-warm third. (Unless it is like the Packers or Cowboys.) Giants win the East, Eagles and Cowboys fight for a Wild Card. While the Redskins get last, but their drama and insanity in the Capital will draw the attention of the nation. While in the South the Saints win, Atlanta get the Wild card the Panthers will get third but for months we will hear about the meltdown and the Bucs will garner a few less headlines then the really bad Rams but will get their fair share.
The Lions and Seahawks are neither good, really bad or flashy. At least the Seahawks may make tiny ripples playing the Inners’ and Cardinals, but beyond that the nation it appears have quickly forgot about these two teams. Am I off base here, do other people feel this way? Oh and in the AFC real quick. Divisions winners, Patriots - Colts - Bengals - Broncos and the Steelers will get a wild card, while the Jets and Ravens play to the wire for the sixth spot. While the Jacksonville Jaguars join the Lions and Seahawks in the land of forgotten. I'd love your own thoughts and observations! Thank you for reading my first post here!
